congrats Maz and Madison

@TA: dont you dare to repeat that again... :mischievous: i never saw a guy that could drive fast on the pad and that didnt make it better on the wheel after the necessary pratice.. so you hang on a bit more and you'll rock man, im sure about it.. you know that losing against the talented Mad its nothing but something that we need to get used to.. specially at 7am :grumpy: :banghead:

Well said, when I raced Mad it was 9am for me, I guess the 2 hours made all the difference. ;)

Well done to everyone, there are no real losers anyway, everyone's a winner. :gtpflag:

Well done and congratulations to Mad and Maz, and better luck in your future races TA and Fuzzy.

GTP_Hydro vs GTP_Eriba.

We raced at 20.38 BST, 15.38 EST I think on Sunday, I think with GTP_hydro not being able to get much in the way of practice in with his personal life and starting a new company, plus on top of that I think he was using the wrong setup for his race, he struggle to find any pace in our race.

I started on pole and took the lead into turn one and that’s about how it stayed all through out the race, was a shame that GTP_Hydro was not able to find any pace, as I’m sure this does not represent how good he really is.

Great Sportsman and I look forward to racing him again.

Winner GTP_Eriba.

Congratulations dranddad! Bad luck hydro and good luck to both of you in your future races.👍

Great job Phillip :)

This week's races are going to be awesome.

All the best

GTP_Mav3r1cK vs GTP_Davey07-037
Winner - GTP_Mav3r1cK

We lined up on a grid filled with about 8 other cars. First thing to note was that I had elected to drive the R35-GTR whilst Davey had gone with the Ferrari F430.

We got back to grid slots without any problem, and awaited the 30 sec cound down 3.... 2...... 1..... and were off !! The GTR was practically in the first corner by the time the F430 had moved from the line and by the time we came out of the corner I must have had a 2 or 3 second lead already. All good I'm thinking, car seemed to be running well, and I seemed to be building a lead quite quickly......

That was until Spoon Curve - I got just a little to over excited about stepping on the gas in the 4 wheel-drive "I can grip on anything" monster and weee round we went. I watched Davey not only catch up but sail by in disbelief that I had thrown away a good lead already :scared:

Anyway me thinks back on the track lets catch up. That was mistake number 2 - I must have caught up with Davey and the car he was batteling with about 3 times and then pushed that little too much and dropped back again - GRRR !!

By this time we'd reached lap 7 and I was growing seriously concerned about the outcome of this race. I caught up with Davey once more and this time managed to make the catch up and the overtake stick down the main straight and into 1st & 2nd Curve with some seriously late braking, I pushed on from here and managed to get by the other car that Davey had been chasing for the majority of the race.

From there I pushed on until 130R and Casio on lap 9 where I caught up with place 2 and 3 cars an un-tuned R35 and Ferrari F40. These guys were clearly having a battering match of their own and I had decision to make as to wether to try and get past them or stay behind and hope I had enough distance between me and Davey in the remaining lap for him not to catch me and nobble me right at the end. Actually the decision was made for me around 200R and Spoon Curve when they had yet another falling out and I was able to drive right through them and push on - the race timer ran out just as I got to Casio signalling the end of the race.

All in all about as dramatic a race as I have had to date. The R35-GTR was far less easy to drive over a long period than I thought it would be and it showed in my performance.

Kudos to Davey for running a great race really ejoyed that one mate.

Cheers,

Mav

Commiserations Davey Congrats Mav.

Sounds like it was quite eventful , best of luck in the next rounds.

Phillip.

GTP_DukeOfPendle v GTP_Synwraith

We had a marathon session just trying to get into the same race as each other.
We were trying for over an hour without success - I would guess 12 to 15 attempts.
When we eventually struck lucky, I think neither of us were in a good frame of mind for the actual race.
We had a small grid, with Erik (GTP-arora) kindly hosting and spectating.
I started from pole and narrowly led into the first turn.
Lap 1 was eventful, with sporadic lag causing Maz to tap me off the track a couple of times. Of course he duly waited until I regained position.
From lap 2, things smoothed out - Maz following me round with the gap never exceeding 0.5 sec.
If memory serves me correctly, lap 5 saw Maz draft past me on the run up to 130R. I managed to stick close and retake the lead heading down to turn 1 at the start of lap 6.
Looking in my mirror I could see Maz spinning on the outside of turn 1. I believe he put a wheel off track, which resulted in the "off".
Now I had a 10 sec lead with 5 laps to run. I concentrated hard to stay mistake-free, watching my lead reduce by around a second per lap as Maz was obviously trying hard to close the gap and apply some pressure.
So it was until the end of the race, the final margin was around 5 seconds.

Winner: GTP_DukeOfPendle

Overall I think Maz was around 0.5 sec/lap faster than me, but I'm sure the whole race would have been a tactical battle, had it not been for the lap 5 error. On another day he would have beaten me.
Thanks for the race Maz, you are a true gentleman racer 👍
Good luck with the rest of your races - you deserve to be rewarded for the effort you put in. :)

Good write up Phil 👍

I can't believe we spent over an hour trying to match, I'm sure that had its effect on both of us, you're right.

Sorry for those taps, I don't think it was lag just misjudgement. First one just before Dunlop, second one at Spoon 2 but I really had to work to catch you back up after I waited for you, you breezed past

After that, you've said it already, hard to swallow. Pure red mist driving for the last 5 laps, I wish i could go that fast all the time!

Well done again, totally deserved, you ran a quality race.

All the best
Maz

Commiserations Maz Congrats Duke.

These battles get harder but the sportmanship remains the same, its great to read these write ups. well done guys good luck to both in the next rounds.

Phillip.

GTP_Hyperspeed v GTP_L_Hamilton

Not a lot to say, We got away clean, Hamilton lead into turn 1, GTR was fast off the line. I was leading on lap 2, pulled out a gap on Ham, met some traffic by lap 4, I had no probs passing them, and was then 9 secs or so behind P1, managed to reel him in by lap 8 or 9, and was scared to pass him incase he punted me. :) As it happens, he was cool, and I passed him out of Dunlop, and stayed ahead until lap 10.

Thanks for the race Ham. 👍

Nice combo Kev and Jack.

GTP_Synwraith vs GTP_EDK
Winner: GTP_Synwraith

Hang on, get a coffee and a Jaffa cake, this is going to be long.

Just like my race with DukeOfPendle, there were big issues trying to match with Kevin and actually do the race. I have had this problem with the 700PP World Event all week. I don't know how many times we tried before we finally got in a race together, but I had to try and stay relaxed unlike with Phil where I let all the frustration of an hour's failed matching to get to me and affect my race performance.

Both Kev and I opted to use the Ferrari F430 over the GTR. I knew from pre-race practice runs we had ended up together in I was around a second a lap quicker at my best, but that doesn't really always count for anything in these races. I was to start from pole.

Matching failed on something like 3 occasions.

Finally, Race 1
We make it to lap 2 with me leading from the first corner and Kev following a second or so behind, but usually less at the line. We had reached 130R on lap 2 and I saw Kevin go off at Spoon, then suddenly he was behind me again, then Kev gets booted and I park it. Massive lag for Kevin there and I think his connection died.

Race 2
One lap down, I lead from go, Kev following, french host in Clio disconnects.

Race 3
I lead into first corner again, Kev following. We encounter backmarkers pretty early, lap 2. A Clio parked in the middle of the track at Dunlop and I manage to fly around the outside and continue on my way. Kev gets by the Clio before T1. Kevin holds on to the tow for a while, neither of us putting a foot wrong and we come across more traffic. A white Corvette/Tuned, the same French Clio...all of whom I must say were perfectly well-behaved and gave a good race, didn't get pissy when overtaken and were clean when re-passing under draft. I cleared those guys and started making inroads into the overall leader, an NSX I think. I don't think I could see Kevin in my mirrors any more so the lead was over 6 seconds. On lap 9 I could see the leader and by the end of the lap he stuffed it at Casio (or so I thought), I started Lap 10 with a big lead and no one around me, race bought and paid for. At the same time I saw the issue at Casio, Kevin saw the blue French Clio make a mess of Spoon. Little did I know the Clio was the host, got angry at his own mistake again and disconnected. Lap 10, BLOODY LAP 10, big lead, almost home, another disconnect. So we agreed another rerun.

Race 4

I start from pole, we wait for the grid to pass us, but GTP_uk86ze and RudiRaser are on the grid too, Rudi was the host so at least we knew we wouldn't get DCed this time. There was also a GB Audi R8 on the grid who abandoned his car. While I lined up on my pole position, the R8 bumped me off pole, so I repositioned. Bumped again, repositioned. I was starting to get pissed off now, what the hell else could go wrong?? When we finally hit 30 seconds and went, I don't think I even cared what the outcome was any more, I just gunned it. Not being careful and just attacking and molesting the corners. I wanted it over with.

This was the best race I had run all week in the F430 and incidentally I think it was Kevin's best also because despite my laptimes and consistency, utter disregard for spinning or being careful, he was keeping up for 5 laps in my draft but just as in all the previous race attempts, he was never close enough to make a pass or take the lead. I think halfway through GTP_uk86ze realised what was going on and parked it, as did a Spanish Clio. I don't even remember, I think we passed a couple of other cars as well without issue.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any more complicated and I was starting to lose Kevin again, Rudi slowed down to wait for us so he could have a race. This is the one and only time the amazing GTRP_RudiRaser will be called "Traffic", and the one and only time I just wanted him to leave me for dust. I was shouting "Rudi go just GO PLEASE!", but we started racing

This probably helped my concentration as I am usually very focused when racing a faster driver closely just because I feel something to prove and want to leave a good impression with one of the recognised superstars of OLR. As usual Rudi was super clean and super fair, but of course when you race someone and exchange positions you lose time.

By lap 9 I think Rudi was ahead and I knew I wasn't going to get past without an error from him.

Lap 10, could it finally be over? Yes, with Kevin about 8 or 9 seconds back. One of the most intense, somewhat frustrating and exhausting OLR experiences I've ever had. Frankly I won't miss World Events when they go.

I think Kevin knew I had a pace advantage from my hotlap thread and would have required a mistake from me like the one I made against Animera and also DukeOfPendle. But I managed to keep it fast, clean and mistake free for something like a total of 25 laps in all our races, and was never once headed. It made up for the disappointment of the previous defeat.

I have to say, this must have been really difficult for Kevin. He doesn't get time to race on weekdays, he woke up to race me in the morning because he knew I had to be somewhere, he kept his composure during disconnects, lag, idiot hosts, matching failures and all of that, he had spent much of the last month practising GT4 for his LAN meeting and the vastly different physics just won't allow you to jump back into GT5P, a wiley car like the F430 and be as comfortable. On top of that I had loads of practice with this combo.

All things considered, Kevin was marvellous and as you would expect of one of the GTP race admins, a total example of how it should be done.

Thank you for everything Kev, thanks to Rudi for hosting and to Jukka for trying

My record in stage 2 stands at 3-1, so I hope that's enough to see me through.

All the best
Maz

After the "little" starting problems. Congrats Maz. 👍 Commiserations EDK.

Seems there have been quite a lot of these matching issues lately.

This was our Week 2 race, in the Lancia @ Fuji. Best of 3.

Again we had difficulties getting into the same race. We were trying constantly for around 30 minutes.
We reset both consoles, which for some obscure reason seemed to do the trick.

Race 1:
I started on pole and led into the first corner. I managed to stretch out a lead of around 2 seconds, and pitted at the end of lap 1.
Kevin pitted at the end of lap 2, and resumed approx 4 seconds behind.
This is pretty much how it stayed until the end.

Race 2, first attempt:
Kevin led away from pole, maintaining the lead until the straight at the end of lap, when I managed to draft past to lead into the 2nd lap.
I pitted at the end of lap 2, but flew through the pits without incurring a penalty. This meant that I rejoined only 2 secs behind - obviously not fair, so I pulled over and stopped.

Race 2, second attempt:
This race went without a hitch. Both of us taking our pitstops without drama.
I was lapping around half a second faster than Kevin, and this represented the gap at the end of the race.

Result: GTP_DukeOfPendle 2 GTP_EDK 0

Thanks for your patience during our connection difficulties, Kevin. Best of luck with your progress through the competition. 👍

he (GTP_MatejH) said to me that he could meet at any time in week 2. .. then he was gone?

I would like to find GTP_MatejH for our week3 race as well.

Is it someone ho can help me to find GTP_PyroZona
Ole B

Despite sending these 2 people multiple messages, I have recieved responses from neither of them. I can only assume they have gone AWOL and won't be taking any further part in this tounrament.

GTP_Racer_LP vs GTP_mad94d

Before the race:

As I was doing some laps in free run as Mad entered the chat. He hadn't played GT in 4 days and asked if I could wait about 30 minutes so he could do some laps. He got into the 2'00's really fast, so I knew it was gonna be hard for me to win as was only doing 2'01's with a couple of high 2'00's. Finally we agreed on a time and started our race.

Race 1:

We were in a race with a 3 car grid: the host [JP], mad and me. Immediately I was hoping the host wouldn't quit because he was racing alone.
We took our places on the grid and were off at the 30 sec, mad leading into the first corner. I managed to follow closely. As we got to the hairpin, Mad went off... And so it happened, the host had quit.

Race 2:

A much bigger grid now, 8 cars, so lots of chance to hit traffic or be punted.
Mad was leading again into the first corner with me just trying to keep up. I overtook Mad into the chicane at the end of the lap, but went to wide, messed up the exit and mad was able to take back the lead.
Coming up to spoon on lap 2 (or 3) we hit traffic, a very slow cappucino/tuned. Mad managed to overtake him in the 2nd part of spoon, I got held up exiting spoon and was more than 1 second behind on the straight. I was still in his draft though and exiting 130R I was only about 0.6 sec behind. Although I don't really remember braking later than usual, I didn't get the car stopped for the chicane, ghosted through mad and went onto the grass, losing about 4 sec :ouch:.
By now, I knew my race was over unless Mad got held up massively or made mistake. That didn't happen though. Instead I made a couple more mistakes at degner and the hairpin, losing even more time. :banghead:

In the end I finished over 6 seconds behind Mad after he lost 6 seconds behind other cars .

Well done to Mad . You completely deserve the win here. You were faster, more consistant and didn't make any big mistakes 👍

Hope to see you on the track again, when I'm on the pace :)

Well done Madison, seriously tough group and I think Bruno, Stijn and Mad you are all on 2 wins and 1 defeat now correct?

EDIT: Nope, Mad is on 3-1 :)

Yep, but mad has done all his races, MAY and I still have one more race to go, so all 3 of us could end up on 3-1

Thanks Stijn and Maz. Great write up too Stijn, I have nothing more to add.;)

Yeah it is close in our pool, I'm done on 3-1, Stijn is on 2-1, MAY is also on 2-1. So if Stijn and MAY win both their races we will end up with a 3 way tie.

In which case you guys, having all beaten each other and nobody with a distinct advantage should:

a) Have a three way run-off like they did in Division 2 with Deathwalker, paulie and JvM
b) Promptly be promoted to D1 Gold

no thanks :scared:

Well, you beat Timeattack and MeAgainstYou convincingly, both of whom are recognised D1 gold drivers and GTP event/championship winners. You have got overall WRS wins, you were runner up in event 01, and Division 1 runner up in Event 02 (remember I was watching this race? You were 1 lap away from beating MeAgainstYou and basically having a free ticket to the overall title), if it wasn't for a couple of costly errors in your race with Madison you could have beaten him also depending on the way the chips fell, and Madison is now beating Holl01 in time trials at WRS.....what excuses do you guys have left ?!

There's nothing to be worried about now is there, you've raced and beaten the best, as has Madison. You guys are among the fastest around

All the best
