Down with Active Steering!!! Laaaaaaame.

Bit harsh Tim 👎 - Millross is using a DS3 and not a wheel after all

Not to mention the fact that it's an allow aid.

If you'd like to suggest to someone that they will be faster with a particular aid turned off, or that you enjoy the game more without a particular aid, have at it.

It might be that you were joking, but please be careful when crossing these lines.

Hoping WRSFetchbot can find my splits as they are still not finding their way to the leaderboard. Still racing like a cut snake though. :)

If it's not on the leaderboard, it doesn't count . . . .:D
Just kidding mate, I'm sure they will get it sorted soon!

I see the Aliens are out early this week.
eclipsee and Zoky at the top of the board to start of with, some sweet times there guys!

Cheers All !!!

Are you sure you're not in that tractor beam, let the probing begin . mooo
That is some awesome splits already, I hope to get a go tonight. Must repeat to myself 'sports soft' , 'sports soft' all the way home after work.

Wish I was fast enough to submit setting, But.... Setting are probaly what makes me slow. Hey bojangles what you doing up there with the division 2's. ;-0.

T1: 28.424

Thanks Sid. I am really enjoying the feel of the car this week. Great fun.

I have a lot of work to do in T1. I have no idea how Eclipsee is in the 27.3 area. The best I have seen is a 27.7, but that was only one fluke time. I have been happy any time I can break 28 in the first sector.

I hope you get some time to run tonight, because it is quite fun to have such a lively handling car.

Rees

Sid was right. Look up, they're coming for you red!
<-- Waving as frantically as I can. Mooo, moooo...

First splits of the week.

Really liking it so far, but don´t know the track well, still trying to find the better lines

T1: 28.132
T2: 34.416

Putting the power down there is hard and is quite important due to the fact the car doesn't pull too well and you need to maintain momentum, I'm finding you can take quite a lot of speed in to the corner. The left hander after the hairpin in T2 is also quite tough to nail on entry.

I am carrying what I feel is good speed into that corner (~90km/h [56mi/h] at the apex) to try and maintain as much momentum as possible... :nervous: Perhaps that is still not enough... But I have found that any more and the car is running wide and I'm losing more time by having to slow down to get the car back on line for exit, not to mention a slower exit speed... :scared:

As for the left hander you are referring to I have been trying different lines there and am carrying good speed on exit, if and when I get it right, not enough speed going in and you exit too slow, too much and the car slides and, again, you exit too slow... :ouch:

All-in-all a very challenging combination this week! I am going to give BB 7/3 a try later today when I get a chance but have been running 9/7 thus far. 👍

Xerxes. :)

yeah, maybe you're right. Millross, do what you can with what you have available...might as well.

Though I *was* tempted to try with AS, I didn't....finding it mildly frustrating this week. :ouch:

T1: 29.457
T2: 34.896

...I guess the reality is that if people are starting to use the aids more, everyone will have to, to remain competitive. DS3 or not...

Trimmed just a little off in a second session tonight.

28.210
34.358

I can see more in sector 1 than sector 2, will have to keep trying some different things to figure out where I'm losing so much there.

With the greatest of respect Tim, I think it may be worse in your head than in reality.

My understanding of active steering is that it smooths your inputs a little - nothing more. Some of the fast guys were using it with the NASCAR event and so I tried it for the first time then and whilst there was a descernable difference, it wasn't night and day and I coudn't honestly say whether it made me any faster or not.

It is not in the same league as TCS, SRF or even ABS, and from my few weeks around here, getting brake bias correct will have a much greater effect (by an order of magnitude) on your lap time than whether active steering is implemented or not.

Why don't you give it a go and see if a) you like it, and; b) it makes a difference to your lap time.

Just my opinion, and like I said at the start, is said with the greatest respect to you and all other WRS drivers, whether they use active steering or not 👍

Thank God this was with soft tires...otherwise I would be bald already

First 40 mins

T1: 28.127
T2: 34.051

BB 9/4 / ABS 5 / TCS 1 (I am not as smooth as this pocket rocket requires)

New Splits:

T1: 0'28.685
T2: 0'34.336

I felt like I had a lot better feel for the car during this short 10 lap session. I forgot to adjust the brake balance so that may help more tomorrow as 7/3 felt really good earlier today. This car is a lot of fun as you can really throw it around, but it is a fine line before going to far. I'm also finding how important the line is on this track, being off a little exiting one corner can ruin an entire lap. All in all this week is shaping up nicely.

+1 I'm with you on that, I am about .5 down on Ramon in both sectors but I can see how to make up .4 in sector 1 but only maybe .3 in sector 2. :(
I am struggling in sector 1 attacking the curbs to try and straighten my line through the chicanes as much as possible without the back end coming around (power or not)... So I can see where my time is being lost but in sector 2, I figure I must just be taking the two corners I was talking about in an above post too cautiously...
About to go and spend another 30mins chipping away... hopefully! ;)

+1 So true! 👍
I tried it in the Nascar event and was actually slower... I found it caused further understeer in a car which already had a tendency to understeer!
However, in the 111R it may be another story but I'm enjoying the challenge too much to try it. But I can see how someone without access to a wheel might turn it on because the 111R is a handful with a wheel, let alone a DS3! :)
Huge respect for anyone who can post quick times this week with a DS3, AS or no AS! ;)

Xerxes. (or Sam for anyone who can't remember how to spell Xerxes... :sly:)

EDIT: Also Carlos, I heard back from Vaxen yesterday and the reason I'm 2nd last on handicap (WRS12) is because as last week was my first WRS submission (I forgot for the Nascars... :dunce:) I have not 'got' an official handicap yet so effectively I set my handicap in WRS12 to use in future weeks! 👍 So your theory was correct! Only reason I was not last was because I was not the only person submitting for the first time! ;)

I'm not saying I will be quick, but I will definately be putting the theory to the test.
Sounds as though this one is going to be a handful.

Cheers All !!!

Finding a little more speed, this week is very addicting for me. I keep looking up to see my T1 and then taking the corner to hot!

I posted my settings to try and help others with a solid setup and get flamed for using an aid which is part of the rules!? Haha, ok then.

In future I'll think twice about sharing my settings incase it doesn't fall into line with others expectations. 👎 In the meantime, I'll continue to use what I am fastest with.

All the best.

T1: 29.038
T2: 35.105

Ran a better T2 earlier, but got my best T3 so far. For my skill level, maybe another .5 out there, unless I get lucky! :indiff:

And Millross, 👍, please keep posting tips, etc.

No harm in using everything available within the rules....I try everything at least once.

Don't stop mate, I always try your set ups when I see them and they usually help me 👍 Going to try the one you posted earlier, later on.

yeah, maybe you're right. Millross, do what you can with what you have available...might as well.

He will, I'm sure... and doesn't require your permission to do so. What's your problem anyway? These aids are, and have always been, allowed in WRS rules. Use them or not as you wish but don't ridicule or berate someone else for using them if they find it helps. Ramon used it for the NASCAR event, as did I and quite a few others - are we laaaaaaame?

You mean 'Fanatectic fun'? :sly:
Haha, yeah that's it! :) I don't want to shout too loud about it but man, I love this wheel. Negotiations proceeding onto cockpit related matters now... :sly:

I'm STILL sitting by the letter box waiting for the arrival of my G27!!
How goes the Fanatec Chris?
As above... :) If the G27 is better than the G25, as I have heard it is, you're going to be properly stoked when you get used to it mate. I loved my G25 and do feel a certain sadness now its "retired" (rFactor F1 mods wore it out I think).

Back to this week.... like Kev, I'm not making any progress in T2 at all. Need to try something different or that will be holding me back all week. I reckon I can find maybe another 0.1 in T1, and the same in T3 but T2 feels done and I'm at least 0.5 short of where I'd like to be there.

Good luck to all shaking your butts this week. 👍

Negotiations proceeding onto cockpit related matters now... :sly:

In my case i got an obutto seat on my birthday because my wife insisted
that if it was something i really want no reason to held back,
"because there is so little time in life to enjoy ourselfs".
I was :eek::dopey:
Try this aproach 👍

I'm finding it quite difficult to resist the urge to just try and drift it all the way round... :) More lift off oversteer than I would expect from a rear wheel drive though - kinda reminds me of a Ford Transit SWB (FWD) I used to do courier work in :P

Heh.

I'm finding that you really do need to keep a little bit of throttle to keep the car stable when you aren't engine braking for the slower corners (turn 1 and turn 8).

For turn 9 (first left in second sector) a bit of throttle is vital to stable the car and carry speed for the long run down to the long long left. All about precise inputs this week

About an hour this morning. Saw a .57 in T1, but that was a one off and I'll be happy to get a lap with a .6 in T1.

27.864
33.513

This is really good combo, thanks guys.

+1  "are we laaaaaaame?"
I would love to find anyone willing to try and justify that as "yes, you are!..."

Anyway, onto matters more important, as a current Fanatec GT3 owner and a G25 owner also, which would you recommend? (G27, GT3RS v.2 or T500 RS?) I am starting to contemplate upgrading from the DFGT as it is WELL worn and now with the WRS I am under pressure to try and keep up with drivers my equal and much, much better (Ramon springs to mind! ;)) So with this in mind I had contemplated upgrading to a wheel with better FF and pedal rigidity as I find braking very awkward when you have no pressure under your foot but had never really had to strive for every .001 I could find until I joined you guys! :D
This question applies to anyone here who has owned (or tested) multiple high-end wheels. Keep in mind that I do not care for an H-pattern shifter as I like the sequential shifter/paddles more anyway so if that is the thing that gets one across the line then I would choose the other... :sly:

Xerxes. :)
