I'm finding that you really do need to keep a little bit of throttle to keep the car stable when you aren't engine braking for the slower corners

Yes I found this out very quickly, lifting off the throttle completey had , undesirable effects on the car :grumpy:

First 20 laps

28.400
33.844

For some reason finding T2 pretty easy to get in the 33's , but T1 I am struggling to stay in the low 28's. No idea where you guys getting 27's from.

Here's some happy snaps, who says I can't get a car on the back wheel, must be the biker in me coming out ;)

Edit: Hey Sam, The G27 is smoother than my friends G25, however I suspect the Fanatec to be a better wheel. Being in Aus though, don't forget the shipping is a deal breaker. I got my G27 for $350 from DSE at christmas. For GT3 with Clubsports I think it was around the $700-800 mark from pagani. Instead I invested in a cockpit from Hes at pagani, which worked out to be the same price once combined with the G27 purchase. Since then I've done quite a few mods, reverse mounted the pedals (thanks to about $10 spent at bunnings) and completely rewired the G27 to have handbrake and reverse as the two middle buttons. (This is also something you should consider, as G27 can't map the buttons although I don't think the GT3 can either , Chris?). Apparently the Thrustmaster is fully supported but again the price is around the $800 mark I think.

Sid, I'm not at Ramon's pace in T1, but it's all about delicate throttle control again. Bit of throttle through the chicane helps to stabilise the car and makes it a million times easier to maintain a good line.

This car does like oversteer, but you can still push it quite hard if you engine brake in the slow corners and maintain a touch of throttle in the fast corners.

Still using 7/9 on the brakes. ABS on 1 and everything else off.

I have a DFGT as well Xerxes. I actually ordered a G27 from Logitech last Friday. I am having some issues with my 5 month old DFGT. It has seen quite a bit of use over those months, so I have nothing against Logitech. Logitech customer service was very nice over the phone. They offered me a decent discount on the G27, so I ordered it.

Now I just have to wait for them to come back in stock. The customer rep said it should be shipped in about 2 weeks.

Xerxes, I am also curious to hear from others about the wheels. The DFGT is the first wheel I have owned. I have read quite a bit about the other wheels. The T500rs, the Fanatec, and actually not as much about the G27. From what I have read so far.. it sounds like the Fanatec has the best pedals (clubsport), the T500rs has the most realistic sized wheel and great ffb, and the G27 seems to be solid all around with good customer support.

Nice pics Peter, well timed for the wheelie :P

On wheels... I loved the G25 although I can't now remember quite what it felt like when it was new - it had been rattling and grinding for some months before I went with the Fanatec. I do remember being overjoyed with the G25 when I first got it though. At the time I was stepping up from a Logitech Driving Force EX... it was a big step and my lap times instantly improved by about 0.5 or more. Hard to say whether the biggest difference was with the wheel and its FFB and 900 degree rotation or the much stiffer sprung pedals. The G25 pedals are superb and the resistance from the brake pedal in particular gives great control.

I am still using my G25 pedals with the GT3 so I can't comment on the Clubsports.... yet... :sly:

On the Fanatec - belt driven FFB is super smooth and takes a bit of getting used to after the G25 but as I said, my G25 had been tired for a while so I can't fairly make a direct comparison. The GT3 is also alot larger (11.5" diameter) and more comfortable on longer sessions. Throw in its built in adjustability (FFB strength, sensitivity, center spring, wheel damping, ABS vibration, linearity) and it starts to pull away from the G25 in my opinion. I enjoyed every minute of my G25 but this GT3 really feels like a step up on the whole.

The buttons are programmable for GT5 - the manual has a button map to indicate which buttons match up to the PS3 (L1, L2 etc...) and you can use the DFP settings menu to set them.

I would recommend it to anyone although it's worth remembering the difference the pedals make. I have the advantage of already owning G25 pedals so only needed the wheel. Add in Clubsport pedals and that's taking you over the price of a G27, which I have never tried...

Kev (EDK) has just got himself a T500 and he was moving over from a G27, so there's another perspective to consider.

:)

Closes down GTPlanet, opens up ebay...

Got that .5 I was looking for....don't know if I can squeeze another .5 later....right now got to get to work. :grumpy:

T1: 29.007
T2: 34.840

This week is tough with a DS3!!!
My first 10 lap sprint at it.
LOTS of room yet, just need to keep it straight and smooth.

T1: 30.542
T2: 36.657

Cheers All !!!

Yeah, I did 1.5 laps with the DS3 and stopped right on the road to switch to the wheel. :)
Didn't you mention you have one on the way? Umm, are we talking about wheels as if they were ...our children...? :sly:

Look out Dan, I'm coming to sit next to you:
28.939
34.938

I keep wanting to leave it in 3rd, like last week. Not workin' so great, that plan.

I'm the opposite mate... finding it easy to get in the 27.9s in T1, do regular 27.8s and have done 2x 27.7s (with very poor T2s)... but in T2 I'm bloody awful. Just don't seem to be able to carry enough speed through the whole section... so its still a mystery at the mo...

Very minor improvement in splits:

T1: 27.844
T2: 33.984

I'm no Ramon or Zoky but I'm happy to post a vid short of my T1 if you like Peter (or anyone else). It relies quite heavily on being super smooth through the chicane but also how you finish T3 on the previous lap plays a part for top speed down the home straight.

Nice old school combo. Running my DFP at chuks.

So true. I just wish I could figure out T2. I'm taking the left hand corner ( The one before the left hand up hill hairpin ) in 3rd seems to be working but that uphill hairpin I'm baffled. Tried lots of lines in 2nd and taking it in 3rd and I'm gaining nothing really.

:indiff:

28.143
33.690

I tightened up my grip on the line a little more. My T1 is suffering as I am not finding the braking threshold. Brakes are 7/3.

New Splits:

T1: 0'28.478
T2: 0'34.389

Lap was 3 tenths faster overall. I feel I'm getting closer to running a good lap, just need to put it together.

27.856
33.500

1'01.356

I have no idea how to turn a sub 27.7 T1, but I can see a 33.4 maybe even 33.3 T2. Lost .112 in my T3, so bad finish here. Settings: 10/4 ABS 2 - tried active steering, makes driving easier, but couldnt drive right, its a large effect on this car.

Using my DS3 for this round, I can't find a good feel with the HKS controller

Thanks for posting your T1 Chris, it gives me confidence that I'm doing the right things, just need to refine it a little.👍

New splits:
T1: 28.183
T2: 33.991

Logging some seat time with Jake today. He always makes me at least a half-second faster!

Awesome track
Awesome car

Splits will be forthcoming :D

BTW nice sector VB. Looks darn close on the switch backs though. Nice to have a vid to show how much aggression is needed for lap time as well. Good job 👍

Nice vid Vagabond, although it would be much better from chase cam!!👍

BTW: Found out why was I loosing so much time, active steering STRONG is the key....don't like that though, it's not much fun now as it was!👎

Ah, well....
Then I may try that aswell.

I tried right away when I first started this combo but it was weird handling on the car but now when I got used to it I realised that it brings more stability to the car and thus improving exit speed through corners!!

Sry for my english!!:dopey:

Had a quick session just now before I got too hot.. Managed 20mins but its humid as hell right now :yuck: Think theres a storm coming :)

Anyhoo, too sticky to go quicker but splits showing promise at least 👍
