@Brandon: Still hurts, just not as bad.

Well, I won't count these against our score until you've healed. :)

Anyone have an idea when the next promotion announcement will come? Curious if I'll be in d3 another month.

Go ahead and count them, I don't care. I'm not going to use my injuries or disability as an excuse for my performances. If I'm able to get my ass in my Playseat and run and submit my times, count 'em. I offer no excuses.....I just complain a lot.

As for you and D2, I would say that that's a pretty safe bet, probably even a double promo. You'll be leaving me behind in D3 but that's ok, I'll get there sometime eventually. But I will be sincerely happy for you to see you move up. You clearly deserve it, putting in some pretty epic performances of late.:bowdown: Good luck Brandon for when the promotions do come around.

I switched to the "new" shared car after doing a seasonal and the gears are much lower. So as a consequence my laps have been a lot slower. :grumpy:👎

Thanks for the vids, Lucas and Brandon.

A bit surprised this lap was better since I went pretty wide in both hairpins. Conservative bus stop, though, need to work on that even more than on the infield.

28.234
23.937
13.512

Around 0.4s at the line.

ok, lets try again! Now the car is standard it's what I was expecting it to be like, still great fun though!

So first splits are now:

27.759
23.614
13.451

still some time left to gain in T1, 2 + 4

Why aren't you in D1.

I was going to say - Are you sure your car is stock?

How much time do you spend on events? That might really be the spread here, you have an overall win, and a second and third overall.

You do not belong in D2.

Apparently not much time at Nurb............

Thanks Mitch. Well, if you count last week, I believe we are 1-1 :D. It won't be long before you're D2, I am sure. My goal is to be just in Div 1. Doesn't matter if its bronze, silver or gold. I'll be chasing after those 2 tenths I'm missing tomorrow. If I can get those I'll be between Andrew and Caine on the split boards. Passing Andrew... Thats a scary thought. I always seem to do pretty good on the tuning prohibited weeks.

Yes I'm positive its stock now! I did spend quite a lot of time doing the qualifier, but since joining here I've learnt so much from everyone, little things like BB changes can make huge differences to lap time. I learnt about trail braking, my throttle control has improved dramatically. Just watching the replays of the top guys teaches me new lines etc and my results have improved because of it.

The other thing is the combos that suit me. The Art Morrison Corvette, 458, Speedster, Mark IV - all tail happy cars. Spa was the exception and I spent a ridiculous amount of time on that TT (about 35 - 40 hours that week).

If you compare weeks 116 and 131 -- the Elise and Speedster, very similar cars. 9th + 2nd. What you don't see are the weeks where I don't submit a time. Combo's I'm not comfortable on. The Celica, Corvette Coupe, NSX for example. I didn't enjoy them so didn't bother to compete. However if I had, I would have been around 7th - 15th.

I'm honoured you think I don't belong in D2, however I don't think I'm consistently fast enough. To me, D1 means your fast regardless of car / track. I don't think I deserve that just yet. I'm working on it, though!

Guys, please check your Bus-stop's carefully!

Those of you who haven't submitted a time at this track may not know, but the bus-stop is really spooky.
The photo-mode preview may look fine, but go on, take a photo.

Since Photo-mode photos are the evidence we consult over all others for cleanliness, you have to take some photos of close calls!!!

Setting the shutter speed to 1/8000, observe the following differences between photo-mode preview and the actual photo. Thanks PD! :irked:

This lap was 0.2 faster than my posted splits, but I'm not submitting those splits because the photo evidence (rather than the clean-looking photo-preview) looks questionable.

BTW, I started running in 720p mode tonight, and it's a little smoother, albeit a bit blurrier, but as far away as I am, can't really notice. :D

Now, go check your bus-stop!!!

I had to throw away a lap where I nailed the bus-stop with mediocre T1+2+3 that was .15 faster than my current because it was off by about 1mm in the photo but appeared on in the preview- so definitely check anywhere that you're close. 👍

On the bright side my current lap is on by about an inch in the photo, so silver linings and all.

Nice work Lucas! 👍

The bus stop is very tough to get right and stay clean - it will let you cut it slightly without red-clocking too. Also, mind the wall on exit - I'm not totally sure it registers slight touches.

To be honest though, I've got problems in other sectors trying to put together a quick lap. Those sectors are 1, 2, 3 and 4. Sector 5 I'm doing ok, just about.

Ugh. Now I gotta check my replay. If its dirty I'll be madder than a dog crappin a peach seed. I really don't think I can come close to that lap.

Thanks for the warning Lucas. 👍

I was pretty sure my current lap was clean with no close calls, but I decided to check anyway. Fortunately, even in the photos my outside wheels don't touch the grass at all. :)

I doubt my previous lap would have been as lucky; it was right on the edge in the preview, so it'd probably have been three wheels off in an actual photo.

Meh! Managed a relatively trouble free session with the G25 last night but without making progress until, in impatience, I restarted and spun round to get a run up on lap 1. It was a messy start and lost a tenth in sector 1... even worse in sector 2 and lost 2 tenths off my best sector time through there. Sector 3 was ok but I figured I was just winding up for lap 2 by now anyway.

Then I banzai'd the entry to the bus-stop, flew past my ghost and nearly lost the rear onto the grass on the left after the first chicane. It held, so I threw it at the next chicane and nearly went off onto the grass on the exit and headed straight at the wall full throttle... [closed eyes] No impact... Opened my eyes and I'm still 2 tenths up on my ghost. Run to the line and up over tenth on my previous best and 2 tenths faster than I did all night.

Crap splits (relatively) but I don't think I've got a hope of repeating that bus-stop, or getting close enough to beat the lap even with 0.2 better splits. Given my wheel woes, I reckon I'm submitting with that and hoping for the best.

Not much fun having someone in your division that doesn't belong there, now is it? :sly:

I have a long post history, but if you explore it, you'll find plenty of posts where I call people out for their qualifier effort, regardless of whether they are in my division.

This is a bit of a different case than Holty, he had an overall win 6 weeks after his first event.

Holty has participated exactly once. :sly:

Fair enough. 👍

The time you spend on Spa was part of what I was getting at. We guide to spend as much time on the qualifier as you intend to spend on weekly events, but people often get hooked into one and go crazy. Same happened for me, back on week 115 of GT4.

Funny story, I sent Tim (WRP001) who runs our online races now a PM during his first event. He qualified D3 and was fast out of the gate. I asked him if he sandbagged the qualifier.

All of that to say, no hard feelings. I just call them like I see them.

Will probably end up submitting with my current lap, I know I'm leaving about .2 in the S4+5 but I just can't get close in 1, 2 & 3. :indiff:

EDIT: Just ran half a tenth faster overall with a .3 slower S1. But was just 3 wheels off on the exit of the first part of the bus-stop. :ouch:

Without drawing this out any further than it needs to be, let me say that I was more or less just messing with you about it, that's all. Now I'll go sit in my corner and be a good boy.:lol:

We're good, I was just explaining my perspective/position, as I could understand how it could be viewed as me complaining about the same thing you were. ;)

Alright, that's cool. Just didn't want no hard feelings just because I was being a smartass.👍 Peace.

Still .2 left but the bus stop kills a lot of good laps.

Thanks to everyone for posting their tips for this TT. My best T1- T 3 so far, not a great T4 - T5, but I am happy with my time. I might be able to improve on my overall with some luck.
27.754
23.986
13.554

Nearly matched my best T1-T3, but made up for it with PBs in T4 and T5 to knock .15 off at the line. I am now occasionaly seeing 1:05.1s.

Blargh, blew a 1.04.86x

23.758
13.533

Still up to half a second left, sector chaining is hard! :scared:

Last ones for session 2. Much better lap times in general but still dumping tenths at single corners...

made a right mess up at the hairpin and lost about .125

27.741
23.826
13.570

Don't get sector three. How I'm losing over a tenth in one turn each time every lap I don't know!

Someone with more experience than I have with photo mode might want to confirm or infirm this, but I think the problem comes from the photo that is taken is not from the exact same instant that is pictured in the frozen replay (or photo-mode preview). It would actually come from a tiny bit earlier time. This is what I remember being stated by someone in these forums quite a while ago, anyway. And the pictures posted by Lucas seem to confirm this.

If this is correct, that means that if you see in the preview that your lap is dirty but the picture you take shows you are clean... you have to keep trying to take a picture that will correspond to the same instant where you saw you were dirty (I hope that was clear... if not, I'll try again, or maybe someone else can explain better).

I also remember Viper saying that the replay captures your position 60 times per second, so that the next or previous instant on the replay will be 0.016 or 0.017 second after or before the current one, so there's no need to try to stop (actually, you shouldn't be able to) the replay at a finer resolution than that.

After 3 hours I came within 2 hundredths of my time. Now I'm looking for 3 tenths in t1, 4 hundredths in t2 and 1 tenth in t4-5. So I'm looking for about .440 overall. Thats gonna be tough

You are correct, in that the timing of the photo and the pause are not the same. I'm not sure of the specifics, but it never lines up. 👎

Picked up 4 tenths at the line, my T1 is not good here, but the rest are close to PB's.

I've found that short shifting can help in the 1st gear corners, especially turn 1. Use first to get in, second to get out. You should work to not drop below 4,000 rpm on that short upshift.

Braking down the middle of the track for the infield right hander after the kink is beast. It sets you up for the corner without compromising speed.

I've run the most sessions and minutes I have in a while on this combo. :) Tomorrow will be my last chance/last ditch effort.

If its going to be with a standard car, perhaps you could at least tell us which car so people can start trying to obtain it and get it broken in now instead of the last minute rush. That way people have a better chance to "hit the track running" once the event is posted. Just a suggestion. 👍

It's the premium Mazda RX-8, and we'll be driving it at an undisclosed City Course. ;)
