First splits. This tyres has no grip!

I did 10 laps. I think I can improve my T2. Hard to drive trought the chicane.

Terrible sector 1, otherwise quite close to my capabilities. Needs consistency!

Haven't played in over a year and don't have my wheel. I've been using the old DS3, can't wait to get my wheel out of storage. The last WRS I raced in was week 5. Lol

Gave this a try for about an hour. I'm way off pace here guys and could really use some tips. Shift point for the car, recommended gear for the more important corners, etc. Just some general tips to help get me started is all I'm asking for. Only drove this track a handfull of times. I know the track well enough, just not sure the most correct lines to take. This will probably be one of my worst events. I guess I could just take the easy way out and not submit this week, but thats just not me. I told myself when I started that I would submit each and every week, no matter if the combo suits me or not. In my opinion, thats the only way I'm going to get better. Good or bad combo, I'm all in.

Bested my OT by 1/2 sec. I've done a quicker sector 3 by 7 tenths. Hang in there Mitch! Maybe one of the faster driver's will give you some tips!!

Thanks my friend. (name?) I'll wait. Still not in the best of shape tonight, just thought I'd give it a short go to see how I stand.

Yeah, I'm way off pace too, but I've done only a few laps so far, hopefully it'll get better with some more practice and some expert tips!

Kevin, I looked at the OP, and it seems that the special chicane rule does not apply this week? Is that correct, or did you forget to mention it in the OP?

Thanks for the welcome Chris and Wes 👍
Awesome time already Wes

Hi CargoRat (Mitch?),

I would be happy to give a quick overview of how I'm tackling the lap, hopefully you can find a few pointers. Truth is I think I'm still doing something wrong in T1 as Wes is finding 4 tenths on me in only 3 corners .

I'm braking for turn 1 on the shadow from that tree just before the zebra (pedestrian) crossing and changing down to 3rd. Once braking is done I'm lifting and coasting slightly as I turn in, then getting on the power and trying to late apex turn 1 so I can get a good drive up the hill.

In 4th gear as we approach Casino and Im braking just after the crest and downshifting to 3rd, you may want to try braking just before at first until you get used to it as it would be more consistent to brake slightly earlier and do a bit more coasting then pushing the limit and sliding out all the time. Anyway Im on the brake slightly (say 20 - 30%) and I have a bit of throttle on too (5 - 10%) in 3rd gear and I try double apex the turn. Key is judging when you can get back on the power and successfully clip that 2nd apex (right where the wall sticks out a bit and before you flick it right), its really quite tough to maintain revs and corner speed in 3rd gear and not slide. I think a slight slide on entry is ok but too much and you simply kill speed and revs. Now we flick it right and you want to run over that rumble strip and be on the power as soon as possible in order to maintain your corner speed. Getting the car to change direction smoothly is tough and I use a lift (not even a full lift but a reduction in pedal pressure) and turn based approach in order to transfer the weight.

Now we exit and run down hill to T1 hopefully not hitting the outside wall. I havnt got a set braking point here but its just moments before/during the T1 split appears and then downshifting to 2nd. Here we want to clip that little apex/rumble and then have full throttle exiting, not sliding and not hitting the outside wall as it curves back a touch.

Hold 2nd on the run down to the hairpin braking about a car length before that skinny pole shadow and change down to 1st as you turn in, coasting to help rotation. Pick up the throttle once the car is aiming towards the (late) apex and gradually increase it until you feel the car loading as you head up that bump in the track. This allows you to floor it in 1st and then grab 2nd still turning left as you sweep across to the middle of the track before lifting and turning in for the right hander. Ideally you want to run over that rumble and straighten up the exit so you can accelerate into that spare bit of road on the outside between the two corners. I touch the brake then turn in coasting towards the 2nd apex then getting smoothly onto the power early and being careful not to slide as you exit onto the tunnel straight. I find that not hitting this rumble fully (I do just a slight clip) is best otherwise you just upset the car.

Accelerate through the tunnel etc staying nice and tight around the bend. As we head downhill toward the chicane I'm braking about 1 - 1.5 car lengths before the dark patch starts in the road and dropping down to 2nd gear, flick it into the left hander then im lifting slightly to aid direction change and flicking it right, hopefully getting 2 wheels on the right of the rumble and allowing yourself to be full throttle on exit and not running wide enough to hit the wall on your left. Bit of a hit n miss this section, I find the changing direction the hardest bit here as its easy to get offline.

Now we head towards the left hander (swimming pool?) in 3rd gear, just before the pole on the right (about a car length into the rumble strip) I'm lifting and slightly braking in third gear and then coasting as the car turns in, once I feel the car pointing towards the apex im on the gas and trying to hold it flat as I exit getting nice and close to the outside wall without sliding. Then we need to late apex the next left hander and try to stay as far left as possible on the exit, while still remaining flat, then flick it right clipping the rumble on apex, now is the tricky part... just as the car settles from the hitting the rumble strip you need to carefully brake and slow down in 3rd, I use both brake and a bit of trailing gas to steady the rear end as you are braking and turning and trying to slow the car down, aiming for a later apex. Right as we approach the apex of the second right I grab 2nd gear and then carefully change direction, clipping the apex of the left hander and hopefully powering out nice and smoothly exiting out nice and wide on the run to the double right (where schumi parked his car)

This turn you want to brake early in 2nd and turn in, just missing the wall for both apex clips and getting on the power smoothly as not to slide when you go over that bump near exit.

The final little chicane I flick it slightly left once the wall opens up then lift to half throttle and flick it right aiming for the wall, then going full throttle in 2nd through that little chicane and with some luck missing both inside and outside walls and grabbing 3rd just after the left hander apex onto the straight.

Anyway that's basically how I'm doing the lap, if anything is a bit unclear or what ever just ask, and Wes, if you see something I'm doing wrong, feel free to point it out :dopey:

I surprised myself on this one only took 3 laps too get a clean run, not a fast smooth run but clean none the less.

"quick overview" ... "a few pointers."

Wow, Dion, thanks a lot for this detailed overview of the lap 👍

Hopefully there will still be some time left in the week to apply what we've learned once we're done studying it. :P :dopey:

My first try! Love it! A ton of time left on track in T2.

Best advice I can give is to look back at Wes' video from the last time the TT was at monaco for lines, the cars are different but the line is going to be the same and the braking points probably not that much different

First Look, great combo. Gotta love Lotus.

Lots of time left, going to have to find time for this one.

Kevin, I looked at the OP, and it seems that the special chicane rule does not apply this week? Is that correct?

Yes,that is correct, this week no special chicane rules.

No special chicane rules??

"The tarmac inside the rumbles at the chicane is NOT track. (Example picture below)"

Had a go at this today, fun tt.... Perfect car to thrash at Monaco!

Nice writeup, Dion. Makes me mad:grumpy: I won't have time for this one.
Good luck, all. 👍

@Dion: Thanks so much for taking the time to give such a detailed description of your lap. Its very much appreciated and I for sure will take your advice when I get back on the track.

Mitch

Oooh, great combo :)

It sucks that i'm very busy, but I'll definitely try to make some time to have a go at this :)

And great write up Dion! :)

No worries guys 👍, hope it helps

29.931
48.632

Improved by .15 at the line.

Still loosing a few tenths here and there, but I feel this will be a tough combo to extract that "perfect" lap. Aiming to get another .3 - .4 at the line and anything from there is a bonus. Doubt I can catch Wes, but I'll try to put up a good fight none the less.

Thanks for the tips mate, might be asking a few more questions when I get stuck if you don't mind 👍

Yes,that is correct, this week no special chicane rules.
Damn, I'm doing it wrong once again!!!

Dion - Very nice overview of the lap. In T1 I shift down to 2nd for the first and second corner. It's important to keep the revs up in this car.

T1: 29.647
T2: 48.336
Thanks for the compliments by the way. This is one of my favourite cars for sure.

Thanks to Dion, I was finally able to get a decent lap. Lot of time to be spent on this for sure. Like I said before, this will probably be one of my worse events so far and will no doubt hurt any chances of a promotion, but I'm fine with that. In the end, learning a track I don't normally drive on is more valuable than any promotion anyway. Thanks again Dion for your advice, its working well for me.
