GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

Haha! I couldn't help but make an example of you ;) But I must say, you really did deal with that situation extremely smoothly so hat off. Im sure it isn't always that smooth when a driver loses it that early on.

And of course, by all means if any one here would like to "commission" a video just like these or the one I did for the Parity Racing, or any purposes really, just send me a message just like Sjaak did, and I'll always be happy to help.

What channel should I look under to find your videos on YouTube? I tried several searches directly through YouTube but couldn't find them. Thanks.

Scott

@ Sjaak: The only Maserati I have in the Recommended Garage has 439 HP. Wrong one?

I think so,I checked the arcade Maserati and bhp is 433.

I know, there are differences in numbers with bhp and dutch pk.
Perhaps that is the reason.

So, good to go with the 439hp. Thanks, Christophe and Sjaak! 👍

I may get to roll some in hour #1 but, depending on the feet, may not get to participate in hour #2.

Thanks, found him!

Cool, yes as pointed out, it is also in my signiture below ;)

You may notice that the Formation lap video is only available here on the forums though, as it is unlisted on Youtube. So if you wanted to watch that particular one, you will need to find it in the OP here or something like that. Thanks for checking out my channel anyway, appreciated.

I've sent a friend request to the GTP_3D3Racing account twice and my friend request has not been accepted. Not sure what I might be doing wrong. The two attempts were a couple of weeks apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry Scott. I'll make sure you are on the list tonight. 👍

EDIT: You were already on the list, probably have been for a couple weeks. I logged into all three 3d3 accounts and i see you listed and actually see you are playing GT5 right now! If you have notifications on you probably saw me log in and out of each account.

Shouldn't I see those accounts as friends now? If not, my mistake.

I'm not showing anyone as a friend on my GTP_Tombstoneplt account on PSN yet...I must just be feeling lonely. ;-))

I just logged in and saw you on the friends list: GTP_Tombstoneplt.

Were you not logged in with that account and playing GT5? I'm confused.

If you go to Community in GT5 do you see GTP_3D3Racing listed... it'll be near the bottom with the other 3D3 accounts since the A-spec account is level 0 and the list is sorted by A-spec level by default.

No, my bad here. I expected to see a "friend acceptance message" in my inbox. I see the other accounts listed but I thought they were pending till I received a message.

My apologies but up till the TTs that I've tried out, and the seasonal GT5 races, this is my first venture into online races on GT5 or even online gaming on my PS3. I promise, I'll pick it up (and laugh at my idiot questions later.)

Thanks again,
Scott

Not a problem. Yah, you don't receive any confirmation... you just have to look at your friends list and the friend shows up instead of saying "pending..." You also get notified when they come on and offline.

One thing to note with our lounges is they don't come online often. I log into my own account (GTP_WRP001) and then open the 3d3 lounge... so even if the 3d3 account is offline we are still in that lounge. You won't see the yellow dot on the 3d3 account, but we are in there!

PS> Saw you just joined the lounge so you seem to be set!

As you guys can see from the registration image we've made a few minor changes to the registration system to reflect the new format.

First, to reflect the fact that both components of the academy (instruction hour & rookie racing hour) are independent there are now two participation fields in the registration form. Drivers can sign up for either or both of the components from the form. This will help us better plan for each event. For now I've copied everyone's participation % to both fields, but you can change that yourself by registering again if you know you can make one hour and not the other.

Second, we've added a classification for the Rookie Racing Hour. This is automatically populated based on your current division. Only drivers with "Rookie" classification can participate in the official Rookie Feature Race. Veterans can join in for the unofficial sprint races, but will be asked to "handicap" their cars to an appropriate pace.*

Initially, in order to be classified as a rookie, a driver must meet one of the following criteria:
  • D3-Silver to D5 Bronze
  • D3-Gold with very little or no experience in WRS-Online racing
  • Obtain special permission from an OLR admin (request via PM)

Once drivers establish a driving history in WRS-Online events (rookie races plus other events) their classification will be reviewed and based on their pace relative to the rookie field. The OLR team plans to do an initial review in April after a month of rookie racing and then approximately every 3 months ongoing. Individual drivers that clearly stand out may be evaluated sooner.

Hopefully, this is not confusing. It's rather simple really and the goal of the academy remains unchanged:

In this series of noncommittal weekly returning events we allow division 3-4-5 drivers to get used to clean, close racing in a relaxed environment.... The purpose of these Academy Races is to let lower division drivers develop, improve lap times, race pace and confidence hereby helping them to be able to enjoy their races even more.... This way lower seated drivers would be better prepared in the other 3D3 Racing events.

Questions or suggestions always welcome.

*More information on the veteran handicap to follow, but all veterans who which to participate in the sprint races should prepare a premium version of the car and break it in fully.

Sounds like a good adaption of the registration system to the new format. I'm still very much committed to helping every rookie driver familiarising themself with sim racing. The only thing I dislike compared to the old format is that in the second hour the veterans will not be actively participating as much. Though watching the rookies race can provide good feedback, I only wish that as a spectator you could change camera views and ride onboard.

Well, we want rookies to have their own official races where they can have official publish results and histories like our other events. Having vets in those races wouldn't really make sense and vets have the opportunity to race on Wednesdays and also after this event in the Parity races.

The rookie feature is at most 30 minutes (~25 really) and vets can then jump in and participate in the sprints... but we have to figure out the handicap system properly (the parity formula will be used as a basis, but we need to figure out where to set target times and that depends on the mix of rookies which we will learn over time).

Would be nice to have better views for sure so we could watch drivers and provide better feedback after the race.

We'd completely understand if some of the instructors/vets drop out of the room during the rookie feature if they choose -- as long as they do so either before quali or between quali and the race start. Vets could always use this time to refine their cars for the target time (handicap) in the B lounge. One steward/admin will always stay in the lounge to observe/direct the race (otherwise it's not official) and can post in this thread when the feature is complete. We'll schedule a short break before the first sprint to give vets a chance to re-join.

Hopefully, it'll provide a good mix of dedicated track time for rookies and time to run with vets/instructors during the academy hour prior and during the sprints after.

I have a question - maybe a pedantic question, but I think about these things like that.

How will this work HP wise - it says in the TT that this is based on that the HP is 433 stock in Arcade Mode. How will the the lobby be set up to accomodate this? Will it still be 433 max HP or will we need to fully break in our Maserati's with an oil change?

We will use for the official rookie race arcade cars from the recommended garage.

So all cars are equal for everyone.

The numbers of the hp be off but that is no problem.
In the end we have all the same power.

Yup, for rookies what Sjaak said is correct. Rookies don't have to worry about buying or breaking in a car. A steward will set the regulations in the lounge to only allow the selected recommended car and every driver in the lounge is automatically assigned the car. If you don't like the color automatically assigned to you, you can click the garage button and pick a different color. *Afterwards* you will need to change the tires from the default Sports Hard to Sports Soft and set other driving options: TCS, ABS, etc.

Veterans who wish to take part in the sprint races, on the other hand, have a homework assignment:
  1. Acquire a new car from the new car dealership, break it in fully and perform an oil change
  2. Adjust the PL down on the car until the PP value is 489 PP (value for recommended car). PL=94.3%.
  3. Run laps using academy event specs and adjust PL down until you can achieve the target time (1'35.175) without going under

The initial target time is the D4-Silver time from original time trial results thread. We'll be adjusting that target time in the next couple days, but it's a good place to start for now.

Again, rookies (or vets that are not taking part in the sprint races) do not have to worry about a premium car or the target time, just be ready to race with the recommended garage car. 👍

PS> I'll be able to gift out a fully broken in car if any vet wants one starting after 4PM pacific tonight. Should save you some time. Post here if you want one.

PPS> In many of the WRS-Online events drivers share their practice lap times in the thread in the days before the race. Rookies should feel free to do so as well. The goal here is to learn and knowing what other people are running always helps. It will help us set the target time for vets more accurately. It's completely optional, but we'd like to foster a sharing environment as well as friendly competition.

👍

My Registration: 70% Academy Hour; 20% 2nd Hour.

EDIT: Practice Lap: 5 laps = Lol, not very good, but the best I could do at this point - 1'37.877

Better than my first couple of laps. Improving but hard to find time in my sched to work on it.

Thought we were just supposed to post splits. Here are mine:

19.997
31.420
25.237

Ill post my lap times if a Moderator says that we should. No offence DD. :-)

Scott

EDIT: OK, read the post before which said to share "lap times" so.....

1'39.280

Yes, for the time trial competitions which are all about a single best lap time achieved during the week you should never share your complete lap time in the thread.

But for online racing where it's about repeating a lap over and over and being consistent, giving away your best lap doesn't put you at a disadvantage nor does it reveal the outcome of the competition. You have to execute those laps in the actual race (over and over under pressure)!

So yes, for all WRS-Online events it's OK to share lap times in the thread unless specifically prohibited (which we only do for some qualification setups so we can reveal the starting grid all at once).

Sounds great. Looking forward to improving as I don't enjoy being the plug at the bottom of the TT table that keeps all the other times from falling off! :-)

Believe me participating in these events will help you in the TT aswell, I joined the WRS 1 year ago. Started out in div5 gold and worked my way up to div3bronze..... give it enough time and I am sure you will improve !!

One question: what happens if a driver beats the D4S time; nothing? - I don't expect me to beat it, but just out of curiosity, I'd like to know.

Edit: I'm running 1:35'1XX's.

I ran a 1'35.576 back in that Wk 52, but no way I get near that time after my long layoff. In fact, I haven't even matched my 1'37.877 from a couple of days ago. :grumpy:

Keep trying, and you'll succeed! I ran 1:42'xxx when I started today (I forgot to change to S3's, so I was on S1's by accident :indiff:; 1:39'7xx on S3's), but I improved over ~15 laps, to the 1:35'1xx's. And, if I can improve, you can too 👍!

Rookies should go as fast as you can!! 👍 whether you can beat this time or can't achieve it doesn't matter. Just do your best and have fun.

That target time was just a ball park figure for *vets only* to target so they can enter the sprint races and not run away from the field.

We will adjust that target after we see what the rookies are running. If rookies are generally running 1'37 we will set that target. But it's still ok if a couple rookies are running faster.

Sorry to confuse and complicate things. Hope I'm explaining myself clearly.
