GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

I'm getting high 1:35's but they're a struggle. My best was 1:35.580. But was from yesterday, best I can get today is 1:35.710.

Just tried this combo out and glad I did. This is a great car for this track. Not sure if I would use the GT S anywhere else. It is a bit touchy on heavy banking and got away from me a couple times so i need to be careful.

Posting avg low 1'38's but I'm sure it will go down after a few more laps. I'm thinking 1'37's is the goal here?

Looking forward to the race. 👍

Great information guys. I'm going to jump in the car myself to get an idea in a little while. It's been a long time since I drove this car! But not long since I've driven this track (last night).

Based on the times posted we'll probably shift the veteran target to something like 1'36.5-1'37.0. But I'm curious to see how you guys improve over the next couple days.

Did you guys know this video existed?

Week 52: Mount Maserati

Who knows it might help to see how guys ran the lap back in week 52.

Also if you want to download a ghost video to chase around in arcade mode you can find them in that week's results on the leader board:

http://wrs.gtplanet.net/GT5/results/52/

Click on the green check mark on the right of a driver name to download his ghost replay, transfer to a USB stick and then import into PS3/GT5. Pick a driver from your region (NTSC or PAL) as the replays are not cross region compatible.

NOTE: Arcade mode should exactly match the physics we're using for this event (recommended car, tire wear off, grip reduction low) so it's a good place to practice and work with the ghost when you are alone anyway.

I was able to get an Arcade time of 1'36.918 and a Lounge time of 1'36.824, but neither consistently. I will probably average out maybe in the 1'37.5xx range with more work. :scared:

Another great vid of Chris to watch from Wk 52!!

Update: I'm in the mid 1'36 range now but I'm really pushing the edge. not sure if there's much out of this care without some instruction. But I'm still in TVR land from the TT races so it maybe just that. :sly:

Chris is a really smooth driver and a good one to emulate.

One thing to note when watching these TT laps is that the driver is able to take a lot more chances and can live closer to the edge versus what they will do in a race if they want to be successful. It's really easy to just hit restart in a time trial lap if you catch the grass or spin out. :sly:

Think of it this way. In a time trial, 1 amazing lap out of 20 is a successful session. In an online race, a couple disaster laps out of 20 can cost you several positions.

The TT laps are still beneficial to emulate though... it's just a matter of dialing back the aggressiveness until you can be consistent and "safe" around other cars.

I'm in the main 3D3 lounge taking the Maserati for a spin if anyone is interested in joining.

I want to run some laps with the recommended car to establish a baseline and then test the power limited premium car to see where I and other vets will need to be to run the target time.

Rookies and vets are welcome to join.

I'll be switching the lounge over to Parity racing closer to 21:00 GMT depending on who shows up.

Thanks to those who came out to the practice. 👍 We're switching over the lounge to the parity race specs now.

We've adjusted the veteran sprint race target to 1'37.0 (being within a tenth or two is fine).

I achieved this on a stock premium model using a slightly harder compound tire (sports mediums) and 90% power. This is just a guideline and each vet can choose specs to meet the target for their pace. Let me know if you you need the premium car and I can send it out today.

Would also be nice if all vets chose a shade of yellow (preferably bright yellow) for their car to identify you as a veteran. I don't believe this color is available in the recommended garage so it should stand out.

I missed the opportunity to practice with the Rookies, will there be another practice session?

Does 19:30 GMT tomorrow (Friday, March 1) work for an informal rookie practice? Vets and rookies welcome. WRS Parity racing practice will start at 21:00 GMT so that allows about 90 minutes. Your free to come and go as you pleas during these open practice sessions. Arrive late, leave early, stay the whole time... up to you. 👍

In any case, unless the lounge is reserved anyone is free to organize a practice at any time. Just post here to the thread and announce you are setting up the lounge immediately or at a later time.

If the main lounge happens to be in use, you can also use the "B" lounge (GTP_3D3_B w/ mics-enabled) or "A" lounge (GTP_3D3_A w/mics-disabled). All drivers should be on the friends lists of those accounts also.

I'll be there again tomorrow - would be good to see more rookies there this time.

I ran some private practice laps earlier today to get a gauge on how I might do during hour two of the event, so I decided to skip any extra practice time later to save the feet and knees for Saturday, :scared:

If I don't feel any discomfort from today, I might join just to give you other rooks somebody to pass. :D

I got faster racing with others - when I had someone to chase my lap time average increased by about a second, so racing with others has certainly helped. But I was still making lots of mistakes - the car is a handful sometimes on that track and I don't think I would have been able to do the TT for a week, but the race should be fine if I don't push too hard (easier said than done I know).

I'll be there :dopey:

1'37.697 and working for every tenth. Not sure what sensitivity to use on my DFGT. Same for the BB. Using 5/7 right now.

Thoughts?

I use 7 on my DFGT. It's just a matter of preference, nothing more. Power steering is off.

BB is related to how the car is handling when braking for you. If 5/7 is causing oversteer, raise front and/or lower rear. If 5/7 gives understeer, lower front and/or raise rear. If it's neutral, leave as is.

I was running 5/5 today, but that's only because I didn't try anything else.

I heard 6/7 being thrown around as well.

GTP_Patrick1 (D2-Bronze) has asked for and received permission to run in the rookie class this weekend. He has run just a few of the recent WRS time trials and has little online racing experience so we'll see how he fits with the group over the next couple events.

Welcome Patrick! 👍

So I'm looking at the time for this race tomorrow and I'm a bit confused, a lot actually, can someone please verify what time this race is supposed to be?

There was confusion at first, but I think the OP is pretty clear now:

March 2, 2013

2:00 PM Eastern / 11:00 AM Pacific / 7:00 PM GMT

Lounge will be open from 06:00 PM GMT, Qualification start at 07:00 PM GMT.

Rookie qualifying starts at 19:00 GMT as listed above followed immediately by the rookie feature race.

The (optional) instruction and warm up starts an hour earlier. If there is any lingering confusion the registration image should clear that up:

But it says 11pm pacific on the top and 11am pacific on the registry.

Go with 11 AM and someone will correct their typo.

I'm always up for races at 11:00 PM Pacific, but I can never find people to race with. :sly:

NOTE: It gets more confusing in a couple weeks with daylight savings time... :boggled:

If I'm awake, I can race at 11 pm PST on most week-days

.

DST starts on the 10th in the US (I know, because I've got a calendar from the US :dopey:) and on the 31st in Denmark (and most of Central Europe).

FYI, the lounge is open for Academy practice. I popped in at 11:30 pacific and there were already 5 guys there!

As a matter of protocol, whoever opens the room for practice should announce in the thread that it's open for business. That way everyone knows. Even if you open it early, go ahead and announce.

Also, for the event tomorrow... an admin with an approved "host-quality" connection has to open the room so do not enter until there is an announcement. Or if you are there first we'll ask you to pop out so the admin can become host. This will help reduce the number of connection issues we have to deal with. Not such a big deal for practice, just for the official race day.

My bad luck. I was just there to check things out and it said the network was offline. All my other connections are good. Am I missing something?....again? Is anyone currently practicing?

I was at practice for a short time today and I can say that it is going to fun tomorrow! The car fits the track well.

I had to shut down my PS3 twice. Then PSN worked for me.
