GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

Good racing, crowed room, a lot of 'newbie' tension.....Just like we want it, thanks guys, see ya all next week. 👍

Some highlights of the feature race.

Nice pics, Sjaak...including the monkey!

@Pasm....yeah, my plantars on the brake are not in the greatest shape :ouch:, relegating heel-braking occasionally.:nervous: Thanks for the critique!

Now the official picture for this event official details results post! 👍

We need some help from a couple rookies. The admins are "handcuffed" as far as using the replay since we are not actually in the race. There are no markers on a replay if you are just observing so no way to fast forward or reverse. That makes it nearly impossible to review the replay if there are incidents, capture moments to video or photos, etc.

Could we get one NTSC rookie and one PAL rookie each week to save the feature race replay, export it and then upload it to a file sharing site where the admins can access it? If you've ever uploaded a replay for the time trial verification it works basically the same way only these replays are too large to attach to a post here at GTP so you'll have to upload it to a free file sharing site. (Google Drive for example).

If any rookie saved yesterday's replay I'd like to have access to it and we'd like volunteers for future events.

Thanks.

I will save replays from next week on, can not help you on this one.

OK, so we have PAL covered starting next week, but still need an NTSC driver which would be someone from canada or US.

I had the replay from yesterday...I say "had"....but deleted it after chopping out some spots. :indiff: I would think several might still have it though.

As I wrote on GT5, I had been taking some notes during the feature race of some of the rookies. I followed each for more than a lap. The following may be based on that particular lap, but can be constructive in improving more. In random order:

[*]GTP_Crozzlow: I noticed you were struggling with oversteer. It's not a bad thing to encounter, because you will learn how to catch it. But in race situations, smooth is fast. That is why you could work on throttle control. At the moment it seems more like an on/off switch (or are you on controller?). Stepping on the gas all at once can really disturb the balance of the car. Once you exceed rear grip, the car will immediatly step out on you and will be hard to catch. Try feeding it in, let it have some time to settle in when going from 0 to 100% pedal position.

Thanks for the critique! I do use a DS3. It is a little tricky trying to feather the throttle and I definitely need to work on it. I want to make sure I am accelerating out of corners and I am probably starting to early....If there are any other DS3 users (I know there are many faster than me) who could give me some tips, I am all ears!

I will be at Fuji next Saturday and look forward to it. Have a good week!!:)

There are a few guys that ran DS3 for a while and were fast, but many of them are on a wheel now... JTV and gooners come to mind. I had a hard time doing a lap with the thing so I'll be of little use on that topic.

GTP_Argon uses the DS3 and he's in D2. So why not ask him for some tips if he has the spare time. Or there's GTP_b00gee60 who also uses the DS3, and is pretty fast for his Division placement. Both are in the Fuji TT leaderboard and both participated in the TM TT as well - they may offer some tips to help you. But one thing that is probably most important if you haven't already done so is to not use X and square for brake and throttle. There's the L2 and R2 buttons or the right analogue stick which will give you greater progression on throttle and brake, but depends on which you feel most comfortable with. X can kind of be an on/off switch if you're to heavy fingered, but the trigger buttons have a lot more give and can help you be more progressive on the throttle and have less than 100% all the time. But I think someone already mentioned that above.

Thanks iainoflo85, sadly, I do use x and square for brake and throttle. I use L2 and R2 for shifting. I think I am going to have to move throttle control to right analogue stick. I am going to peruse some of the wheel threads this week too. Maybe I will make the jump to wheel before GT6...and if so, just one question....How to convince the wife to allow me to build a set up in the TV room? Is there a thread on GTP that discusses ways to convince significant other to be ok with that? :nervous:....💡

Litchi also uses ds3 and his pretty quick almost getting to d1 pace at times, he doesn't do too many wrs time trials though

I use a g27 on a wheel stand pro with just a regular chair/office chair, that doesn't count as a set and I can move it away when I'm done so I think you'll be okay also it's better to beg for forgiveness then ask for permission ;)

I have to play in the livingroom as well and so I've build myself a foldable rig. I race sitting in the couch. Wheel and rig are to be set up and moved away each time.
I'll give you some links when I get home as it's not really possible to do on the phone now.

Too late. Back to work. Hopefully good tomorrow.

Have to appolagize to you, during the academy after the second race I was convinced someone knocked me out from behind.... After watching the replay I could only conclude It was me who did the first mistake, I tapped you causing you to go into the wall, on the rebound from the wall you took me out....but I have caused this incident myself...

Sorry if I drew my conclusion to early, hope to race you again next week 👍

Just noticed you captured the mountain monkey!

I am away all day Saturday so can't make it this week, but I will try to attend at least a part of both practices on Thurs and Friday. There are no parity races this weekend so the lounge can stay open as long as rookies want to stick around.

All rookie's are welcome to join our Tuesday practice (tomorrow) as well. We'll have tire wear set to Fast, but for the most part it's the same.

Daylight Savings Time is approaching. :boggled:

In most of North America, we switch times this weekend. It won't impact the race this Saturday, but it will impact the following events. However, European Summer Time doesn't start until March 31.

That leaves us with a dilemma... If we move the start times with NA local time EU drivers will actually see these events an hour earlier in their local time until their EU Summer time switch. If you are in a region that does not switch times at all you will see a move up in the time until fall.

Since 6 of the 9 rookies last week were from NA our thinking is to go ahead and "stick" the times to NA time for three weeks until EU switches at the end of March.

So the schedule would be (for the start of instruction, races follow one hour after):

March 9 (NA Normal, EU Normal) - 1:00 PM Eastern / 10:00 AM Pacific / 18:00 EU-London / 18:00 GMT
March 16-30 (NA DST, EU Normal) - 1:00 PM Eastern / 10:00 AM Pacific / 17:00 EU-London / 17:00 GMT
April 6+ (NA DST, EU Summer) - 1:00 PM Eastern / 10:00 AM Pacific / 18:00 EU-London / 17:00 GMT

Please let us know if/how this impacts you.

PS> however we decide to move these, we'll apply the same "shift" to the practice sessions.

I'm not sure, if I get what you're saying Tim, as only the last one, of the three, makes sense to me :guilty:.

However, I know that it won't "impact" me, so I'm okay with what you guys decide 👍.

The second one is one hour earlier because NA has already switched to summertime at that time. It will syncronize again as of April 6 when we (EU) go into summertime.

As promised.

This is what I started with as 'racing rig'. Original post is here.

Upgraded by getting some wooden planks, screws, bolts, nuts and washers and made this.

NewRig2_zps8439d48a.jpg

I got the idea to make this kind of rig due to this thread. More specifically this post.

While my PS3 and GT5 load up, this rig is installed. I even timed it once and it takes me 4min to set it up. Even with my new G27 which has more wiring to do.
And the most important part for the misses is it's completely foldable and is put away in the garage when not playing.

I was talking about why the GMT time was/is mentioned twice ... - But thanks for clarifying, Chris .

Lots of bumping going on during these races and I wasn't sure what I might have caused myself. Thanks for the feedback. I was just happy to be racing someone other than the AI in GT5.

Not sure if I can make Saturday due to family commitments but I'll be around as much as I can.

We've already had our share of timing confusion in the Academy, it's just brutal managing all time zones around DST changes.

If in doubt about the time, please ask. If you see what you think is an error or ambiguity don't be afraid to point it out and/or ask about it.

What we'd like to avoid is having a driver show up as we're wrapping up all ready to race! Sounds funny, but it's happened in our events before.

Now that the time trial is complete and official we can start talking practice lap times! Let us know what you guys are running at Fuji online with the recommended car so the vets can try to match those times with our cars.

I think best online lap times should be pretty close to the time trial results actually... within a few tenths at least. I'll be curious to see.

Here are the TT laps for drivers signed up for the Academy that ran the TT:

1'43.799---GTP_GDS
1'43.957---GTP_b00gee60
1'45.029---GTP_whiskyecho96
1'48.595---GTP_Crozzlow

I won't be able to make it Saturday, but if anyone is interested in a little instruction I'll try to make the practice Thurs or Friday (Or maybe both).

There is a TON of time to be gained at the hairpin (sector 2) and the final corner. IMO, that's where you should spend your time first. Good exits from those corners will not only gain you time but also set you up to make passes on the following straights. Passing in in Sector 1 beyond turn 1 and Passing in sector 3 is nearly an impossible mission unless someone runs really wide so these corners are key.

For me it would mean I have to be there one hour earlier then normal, and that would be a problem......

I did not submit for the TT but my best time was 1'43.322

I am 60% for the rookie race. Wish I could make the instruction hour but won't be home from karate classes in time. Looking forward to this! Did I say that already???

Al

Unfortunately I can't commit to being there this weekend to help out, but you should all check out my tutorial video on this combo :)
