GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

The second one is one hour earlier because NA has already switched to summertime at that time. It will syncronize again as of April 6 when we (EU) go into summertime.

EDIT:

As promised.

This is what I started with as 'racing rig'. Original post is here.

While my PS3 and GT5 load up, this rig is installed. I even timed it once and it takes me 4min to set it up. Even with my new G27 which has more wiring to do.
And the most important part for the misses is it's completely foldable and is put away in the garage when not playing.

Thanks Speedy! I am definitely going to G27 in the not too distant future. I love that you timed the set up!!

When I made the new table I already made sure there was going to be a spot for the separate shifter that comes with the G27 so it fits perfectly too now. :)

Unfortunately,I am not able to attend Saturdays Academy and Rookie race.

I will attend the practice days on Thursday and Friday if nothing comes up.:)

Unfortunately something came up (last minute ski trip so not so unfortunate 👍) so I'm not going to be available at all this week (Thu-Sat). I will definitely take part next week.

PS> The EU race was really fun... you guys are in for a treat! 👍 Be gentle in turn 1 lap 1.

Yeah was a very fun race, offcourse the academy will be slightly different....

Will try to be there at least for the rookie race hour, but not quite sure yet.
Spare time is getting rare in the last months :(

I think I need to join the instruction hour as I find this track very hard :indiff:. But in the end, I managed a 1:42'7XX, after some 25 laps...

Bandits lap video for lines and gears is pretty good, just ignore the apex flick part and take the normally with grip. At least that's my opinion for a race vs time trial. Where he positions his car with one corner setting up the next is important. Sector 3 especially. You need to take some corners to set up for the next.

IMO, Bart is a master of T3.. If he shows a sample or walk thru... Eat it up.

The other tip is break early for the GT turn. At the shadow... Running wide on exit can result in a crash plus it's not legal if done regularly. Chop the apex (keeping two tires on track of course) and get on gas early... Slow in fast out as always! And break even earlier in dirty air.

Ps. Twissy posted his bumper cam from the EU race if you want to view a few race laps.

Thanks for the tips, Tim. I'll look through, and try to memorize, the videos.

Looking forward to tomorrow! I can't make scheduled practice today or the 1 hour of instruction :irked:

so I will be running a few laps later this evening. Approx 9PM Central, 3AM GMT

Al

I will open the 3d3 racing lounche around 8.00 PM GMT,for those who likes to do some extra practice rounds.:)

Sorry, I won't be able to make it tomorrow. I'm not at home after all.

I changed my status for today. 50% chance that I can make it for the instructional hour! and I am almost certain thatI can race the rookie races

Al

Im looking forward to this today. I was incredibly slow and felt as if I was fighting the track all the way around. The thing is, my first two splits were competitive with those posted on the board during the trial, I think I must be approaching certain aspects of Fuji completely wrong...anyway, I am looking forward to a much needed tutorial.

I have made a big change this week in respect to DS3 mapping and I am using L2/R2 for braking and throttle instead of square and X and now shifting with square and triangle where as I previously shifted with L2/R2. It is supremely difficult to un-learn those tasks especially when the racing gets a bit hairy, but I know it is best in the long run. I have read that it is important to exercise the mind as you grow older, well, my brain is getting a major workout. On the upside however, trail-braking is becoming part of my skill set.

Bear with me today fellow rookies and vets. If I bang anyone, I apologize in advance.

Since neither Bart, Sjaak or myself are available for the instructional hour today it's unlikely there will be one-on-one drive alongs today. Or at least not everyone will be able to get one.

Assuming Mohit can still show up I think the best format may be for him to do some sample laps while the students observe. Maybe Mohit can drive slow around the track one lap and quickly discuss how he approaches that corner answer any quiuck questions and then move on to the next corner... then make a 2-3 hot laps showing the techniques in action? That way all interested students can observe at the same time. Anyway, I'll leave it up to Mohit to do what he thinks best.

Good luck guys and enjoy the race!

Just realized I ran Fuji F in the Week 106 Time Trial, that explains my extreme slowness. Really lame mistake....

Better get practicing on that GT turn! For me it was the most inconsistent part of my lap. The turn following will be taken with a lot more speed so you'll have to adjust your brake point for that also, but all else will be exactly the same as the F layout.

main 3D3 Lounge is open for practice. I will be AWK feeding the family lunch. Will do my best to get a few laps in before the races

Al

3D3 Main Lounge now open. First we have one hour instruction or practise, then it is time for the rookie race based on the pre run quali. Have fun guys !!

That was fun today! Again, a great learning experience. Happy Weekend!👍

Was fun guys . I hit the grass, in the GT corner, thus my crash 👍. And Al don't make fun of me ! Just kidding, Al.

Good to see all the particapant's. Great race except for the bumping on the frist two corners. Thanks again admin's for putting on such Great races!!

Glad you guys had a good race.

Did anyone from the NTSC region save a replay? Could you export it/upload it and post a link here?

Thought I may of had my first win but hit from behind with 6 laps to go. Had fun racing Al. That was close as they seem to be with the two of us.

Note: Please provide enough space during qualify so your not running up on tthe person in front of you.

Not to mention drafting is not allowed during qualifying and if you are right behind someone at Fuji you are drafting.

If there are just 8 guys on track at Fuji there is really no reason to crowd up. At 100+ seconds per lap that easily 10 second gap between drivers. As a rule of thumb there should always be 10 seconds between drivers in quali. If there are too many drivers to allow at least 8 seconds between then we run two groups of qualifiers back to back.

Here's how I recommend drivers setup the qualifying...

First, everyone should be in the pits (not in the lobby) when the host declares the track open.

Someone will always rush to be first out of the pits... don't always be that guy. :sly: Wait a couple seconds after the announcement and if you hear cars rushing past wait a little more... if 3-4 seconds pass without a car passing your stall go ahead and exit the pits... don't wait any longer. You can't see the map in the pits so you'll be a little blind until then.

Once you exit the pits survey the track map right away. If you happen to release right behind someone drive very slow after the AI releases you and just coast until the driver in front establishes a sufficient gap. This may create a little backup behind you, but if everyone does this all drivers will have enough room in the end.

Use the early part of the lap (and even prior to turn 1) to create the gap and the first sector to fine tune the gap. You want the rest of the lap to warm up your tires and go 100% so create the gap early and then go full speed the rest of the lap. Plus if you wait to establish the gap until well into the lap you'll create a bottleneck later as other drivers who left the gap suddenly have none.

If you go off on the warm up lap you should wait until the end of the line to return unless it's very easy to resume in your spot and not upset the entire stagger. If you go off on your first hot lap be even more careful. If the cars are nicely spaced to start it creates a nice margin for error.
