Great Race. I felt that the difference between the car on and offline was the slightest since I race here. Was happy with my place at the grid, which I lost swiftly trying not to hit cars in front of me engaged in fights for positions. Went from 8th to last after turn 3. I found (Please experienced racers confirm) that being too careful during the first lap makes me a hazard for the cars behind me. But I have lost 3 or 4 positions at the first lap three weeks in a row, probably overreacting after hitting Al at Silverstone, so I guess I have to strike a balance between care and dare here.
After that was a constant chase and a thrilling race.
Felt great to see we were so many, and the race was as good as advertised wasn't it?
The combo is approaching perfection...
Out of curiosity, what driving view do you use?
I've used "bumper cam" since GT6 and used "hood cam" in GT5 and always had trouble in traffic. I never felt I had a good feel for how close I was to other cars. One reason I was reticent to do much racing online.

Then they came out with the multi-monitor support for GT6. I only use one TV, but fiddled with the settings and I now use a close zoom setting (unsure what effect some of these have exactly, but my settings are 3 x 1 Layout, 50 MFB, 130 Angle, 63 AAV). It has taken a while to get used to, but it gives me the sense of exactly where the car is relative to everything else...and replay confirms I can get very close. I know where the nose of the car is now versus just guessing and hoping like before. I can run much closer to bumpers and walls with significantly less concern. Down side is I see even less of a cars beside me, but that's where choosing a line and sticking to it comes in...the indicator helps as well.

All that being said, I completed what might be considered a questionable pass on @RoeszaGT at the beginning of lap 16 down into Turn 2. I think it was a clean-ish racing pass. Not perfect though, so I'd like to hear from him on it.

Anyone have any issues getting into the pits? Laguna's pits are a bit tricky.
I almost tried pitting a lap earlier to see if I could have made up some time on the front two, but it wouldn't have mattered.

I probably have to reassess my approach to Rainey (Turn 9). I'm the only one who drives it the straight way round. Seems everyone else shoots out wide out of the Corkscrew. I can do that and gain 2 mph into Turn 10, but I don't feel quicker by doing so. I'd never drive it straight in a faster car, but for this Miata it seems I'm going out of the way to gain when the straightest way round seems as fast or faster. More testing is needed. I'm not delusional enough to think my TT time for Sector 4 will be top 10, but I want to make sure I'm maximizing as best as possible.

BTW, this cannot be said enough...
I really enjoy racing with you fellas. Thank you for having me. The structure, organization and fairness is unmatched. I know there's a lot of work involved in just maintaining this thing. Time and work that must dip into personal lives. It is appreciated.

And @roamer2629 is right, the races are better. You can go ahead and pencil me in for the Spyker next week.

Another great race and combo, had a great battle with @ItsAllAboutWins from start to finish and we were never really more than a second apart the whole race with @crowhop hanging around for a big mistake by us.

I was just hanging on to him when he was in front of me as he was a little bit quicker then me and only little mistakes gave me the opportunity to make a pass.
After my first pit I had a spin at the corkscrew trying to push to hard to get the jump on him and thought i'd lost it, but to my surprise he came out the pits on the next lap right behind me and after watching the replay I see that the pit entrance caught him out ;).

Summary: Hard, Quick, Clean, Close and Fun Racing 👍

Well done all as there looked there was some great battles through the pack.

Bumper. Almost always, unless I'm driving for fun and the cockpit view is too nice not to use.
It was fun to watch your line, you take advantage of every inch of track crow...

When you say "stright", you probably mean that you start in the middle of the track, rather than going out to the right to set up?

In my experience, the car is really tough to get to the apex when you do that. The real life line IS to start from the middle, I just dive down the left of people who set up wide. Even in my Challenger that weighs more than 4,000 lbs, starting from the middle was fast.

I know I was not the fastest guy on track in the race, but I don't think setting up wide for Rainey is going to get you a lot. Line and throttle on timing for the final turn is critical to getting a good final sector time.

i registered for the EU slot around 2 hrs ago my name is not getting displayed in the list

I'm basically a car's width to the left compared to everyone else at the timing line for the start of Sector 4. I make little effort to get to the right side to go in deep into 10. I take 10 shallow. I'm going to try to get it more centered and see how much I can gain there.

You need to follow this instruction from the OP.

The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.

ok submitted the database entry form
shall i fill the race form again ? or will be added automatically later ?

@crowhop I remember your clean(ish) move and I watched the replay to get a closer look. My opinion in the race and also now is that there was some minor contact but that is just racing. In the race I saw you coming and already braked a bit early and you a bit later so you missed the first apex so I could get back on your inside and on that moment you just steered a bit to much to the left but no harm was done at all. Also we were not racing each other because I had still to make my pitstop so a hard fight was not in my interest. PS. Good job on finishing 3rd.👍

@EDK
database entry form verification takes time ?
Top of the form you filled out.

"Your submission will be manually reviewed by a GTP OLR Admin within 24-48 hours before it will be complete."

I encourage you to read everything completely, as most of your questions are answered by what we've outlined.

What division did you register under? Should be "TBD".

yea tbd

@hasslemoff yea, i wasn't paying attention to the pits. That's the first time I have ever went into them and it showed lol that was a fantastic race. You got in the dirt on one of the laps and let me pass at Turn 4.. i wasn't trying to squeeze in on you, I was actually going to slow down and fall in behind you, but you ended up braking.

@EDK @Gravitron thanks guys. Definitely will be trying to do this more often. Plus, I know how much you guys love my accent  Yeehaw.

I relized that, my tyres were full of dirt and wouldnt of made the next corner safely at the normal speed, so thought it best to let you pass than cause an incident ;)

Anyone up for a practice sesion tonight at 19:00 GMT I'll be starting a room by then.

It will show up soon, I've just added you and @et_ and @Iceman220 to our DB.

Welcome! :gtpflag:

Anyone who hasn't read and understood GTPlanet's Online Racing Rules and Guidelines should do so ASAP.

Right on. New blood is good. But the unknown is a bit scary. It's like a box of chocolates.

@OpticZero Welcome! It will be fun and you won't regret it!

@crowhop I hope it will be in the Forrest Gump kind of way! :gtpflag:If it's any bit like my girlfriend the box of chocolates will be gone quicker than any one of us can drive through sector1 hahaha:lol:

Cheers:cheers:

Hey having a girlfriend AND being able to race has got to have a price: Chocolate seems fair :D
Welcome all newcomers!!!

BTW this was this weekends new combo seen tonight in another Series.(Overall best winner of all divisions gets to pick new combo ).

MX-5 Miata J-Limited ll (NA,J) '93
Laguna Seca

Another BTW. I have been thrashing around Laguna for a couple of days ( mostly compounding my errors unfortunately...did find another half second to put to good use on Wednesday :sly:) and really got in a rut...no matter what I did...the same damn time lap after lap. Sooo I went and bought a new car....immediately went faster. Coincidence...perhaps....or maybe the old wives tale about cars not being as fast no matter what you replace or rebuild is true. Oh well worked for me. :D
