Just curious team, when will deadlines start being required for uploading replay files? I am curious to see some official results soon :D

I'll close off week 1 today. Week 2 should close off Wed or Thursday. Week 3 I plan to close off next Monday, and then we'll be back on schedule.

Can I ask a few questions?

Week 1 Results are out and i cannot see my replay (for download) next to my time in wrs. Should I make any actions about it? Or will be automatically sorted out?

In case I'm not required to submit a replay, should I upload it in the official results wrs page? For sharing and backup reasons maybe.

We're you required to submit your replay for approval for week one? If so, I would bring it up to one of the staff's through PM. But if not, then I wouldn't worry about uploading it.

Hi All
I have to submit a replay for WRS week 4, I have the zip file renamed on my pc but can't see any way of uploading it to the site on the records thread.
Thanks In Advance

When replying you can see a thingy called attachments next to the smilies, from there you can upload your replay.

Good luck.:)

A small note to members of WRS if you would like to join us in online racing too, we will be trying out a mixture of race events plus some of the past WRS events races, see if you can race these online against members in your own division, but this will not include any on going WRS races.

If you would like to join read through this post, all GTP_Taged members are welcome.

Please read and show your support.

I am still hoping for a score board and prizes like gift car, car parts, paints, cards, horns although the restriction on gifts is a bit of a blow to my earlier plans, I’m sure we can still do something.

I hope you’ll like the idea and join and support your members efforts.

This is an unofficial event put on by your members not Admin.

Phillip.

Any advice for a hardcore pad racer who is god-awful with a steering wheel on which wheel to get, in order to practice hard and get good with it?

I see lots of people using the G25, G27 and DFGT for WRS'ing - I find all of these pretty hard to find on the web, all seem to be sold out. G27 is also slightly too pricey I feel. Think I'd prefer paddle up/down shifters too rather than a gearstick on either side. I've had 20 minutes with a DFGT, crashed a lot, found it almost impossible with anything that wasn't 4WD and didn't like the up/down shifting very much - probably nothing there that wouldn't go away with hours of practice

I'd also need a stand of some kind to go with it as the Mrs would not welcome any piece of furniture being adopted by my new, unnecessary toy!

When those were in stock with Amazon themselves (Which is a long time ago!) the price was £79.99! I wish I'd nabbed a couple at that price.....

I'm not sure the DFGT is worth that much - which is what puts me off getting it from any of the various traders that sit inside Amazon and fulfil orders when they don't have any stock.

They all went up once GT5 came out (wiser after the event) may be best to hold off as I'm sure they will come back down in price.

You don't have to use the up/down on the DFGT, I sure don't!

There are paddles in the back, just very small, not like on the G27, but work just as good.

I use a DFGT and love it, can't fault it personally.

The thing with wheels though is that it will take time to adjust as it makes such a difference. You will be slower to begin with, but will pick up the pace, and then won't be able to touch the pace with a DS3!

I got my DFGT for $150 USD from Amazon in 2008-ish. I love it, but am still 1-2sec slower with it than the DS3. Switching back and forth can't be helping, but sometimes my wheel setup is just too much pain/time when I only have time for a few laps. The whine during quick wheel spins also sometimes keeps my kids awake. :(

Also I don't like the pedals too much, their springs are so mush, but I've devolved to using my two big toes, which allows for nice precision.
There are workarounds for that, but I've been lazy about trying them.

Overall, you'll enjoy the game much more with the wheel. 👍

^ this! 👍 👍 👍

After you have adjusted yourself to the new steering it feels like you're playing a completely different game. Plus: you'll never want to go back to using the pad for GT :)

hey guys, I use the DFGT wheel and have always used the automatic due to having to have both hands on the wheel. I see I'm going to have to learn to use the manual shift to keep up with you aliens... :-) going to use the paddles on the back, but I think I'm going to try to come up with a mod to make them easier to use, especially when turning. I've seen where some people have done it, but noone really gives dimensions and such....... anyone here done this that can provide details on how they did it?

I don't want to mess with how clean the WRS forum section is, so instead of creating a new thread, I wanted to ask here how many hours you fellow-racers are spending each week on the WRS.

Personally, I spend something between 1 and 2 hours on setting a time. After that, I either see no progress anymore, have other things planned (GT5 or not) or I simply get frustrated, because I can't get the time together that I think would be possible for me.

Was just interested so I can judge my own performance better.

@snowgt

Varies for me - the rally week I probably spent 4 hours on it, the top gear week perhaps 10-12. I reckon I average about 8 hours per event, with probably 5 hours of it at weekends! 👍

I tend to get a fast time within about the first 20 or 30 laps, it get's very hard very quickly but I find racing other cars on other tracks and coming back to it later or the next day really helps. This week I've been taking time out here and there to race a used Esprit V8 around Grand Valley & Laguna Seca, found it in the used car lot and it's a really fun car! I just think sometimes just seeing some different corners and lines just clears my mind a bit!

I also don't play for more than 90 minutes at a time, I think after that amount of time your concentration is shot and you just start forcing things, running wide and getting slower and slower.

What works for me won't work for anybody else though ;)

The key to improving is to run as many sessions as possible during the week.

Even if you can only run for 20-30 minutes on night, the repeated sessions will bring you more benefits that one long session.

I spend about 4 hours on most weeks. 1 or 2 sessions of 30-40 minutes during the week, and the rest over the weekend as time allows.

I spent 8-10 on the qualifier, and probably about 6-8 on week 1, which yielded my best result.

For me it depends on the combination that week. I spent a lot of time in week 9 (my first week in the WRS), also in week 10 I had to try to learn how GT5 rallying works compared to some of the rally sims (not very well), but I enjoyed it because I love rally racing. Since then I find it hard to run more than a few laps, or even get motivated to sit down and try, this is simply because I don't enjoy the cars or tracks for those weeks. Not everyone is going to like every type of car/track in the game. If I'm not enjoying it, or it just doesn't interest me, there is really no point to forcing myself to do it.

I usually spend around 40 minutes at a time. But also depends on the combo, for example the NASCAR I spent about 20 minutes on it and decided it wasn't for me.

This weeks combo and Week 9 I think in the GT-R, I've spent quite a lot of time on.

I don't get nearly as much GT5 time as I'd like, so when I *do* get time, WRS is all I do, until I get a time I'm happy with. It has varied between 30min and 8hrs per week, and I've submitted every week. Average maybe 3-4hrs per week. Would be happier with at least 8. :)

I'm thinking about retiring my dfgt and getting a better wheel..... suggestions?

Hard call Jeff.

As there are so many on the market now with a big price range too, I think it comes down to Preference looks and cost.

I would say try out as many as you can find first of all, get round to as many outlets as you can, nothing beats getting your grubby mits on a wheel before you part with your hard earnt.

But good luck in which ever one you choose. 👍

Phillip.
