Had a pretty good weekend.
I took my 2 sons and a family friend to a
local indoor electric kart place for the family friend's 12th birthday. His hair was just fluffy enough to equal the 4'10" minimum height requirement. Last time I'd been there was my bachelor party many moons ago. We were just doing the hotlap style of race where there's no real race for positions. The family friend was kind of down after the first race because he was constantly getting blue flags to allow others to pass, but our 2nd race it was just the 4 of us with no randoms thrown in, so he was going faster and getting less blue flags (= big grin afterwards). Both my 16yr old son and I improved our best laps by 0.5sec in that 2nd race, me landing in the top 5 percentile (and 1.5sec off the track record) and him in the top 8 percentile. Wow was that a blast!, even with my kart in the 2nd race having faulty brakes, meaning I had to scrub speed by sliding into every turn.
Makes me even sadder that I cancelled Tim and I's plans a month ago to go there.
My out-of-shape chest and shoulder muscles are still sore today.
Then I ditched the kids and went to see Rush (which was a wise decision, given all the "adult content"
). Thoroughly enjoyed it except for all the camera shake during the racing scenes. I haven't yet investigated how accurate the film portrays the real-life story, but if mostly true, Ron Howard is right, you couldn't write a fictional story that would be more interesting. 👍
