@eclipsee : As long as I am limited to the use of a DS3 with the x/[] buttons and auto transmission, my skills aren't going to improve significantly anyway. But, I guess using TCS and ABS may give me times faster than those not using them which could be considered unfair (whether these aids are optional or not) to those not using them, so I will go back to having them as you suggest (TCS 0 and ABS 1)...I'm not going to get any faster with them but at least I will know my true level:

S1: 26.393
S2: 56.560
No way! You shouldn't throw out those times, you ran them within guidelines, and besides that those "aids" seem to make it more difficult to get fast times. (at least for me they do) Add in the fact you're using a ds3 and a lot of people use a wheel, any advantage you may have gained is kinda equaled out.

I think I've reached past my limits enough still two hundredths off where I wanted, but pretty darn close enough.

Submitted and accepted in case I'm maimed in a fiery crash... Plus I don't want to be the Div3 bronze guy that drops 72 spots after the deadline.

+1 ^^^

I don't see using aids as cheating. I think avoiding aids with the wheel controller makes sense as it brings the experience closer to real life. But with the DS3 I think you should use aids to make up for disadvantages the controller gives you.
I believe all buttonmashers would be one full division higher with the wheel.

@deaconblues82 and @mr_lab_rat : Thank you for the kind words. It's too late now anyway as I have removed the laps. I don't consider using the aids as cheating but I have to admit, I don't get any sort of satisfaction if I run faster times than other DS3 users not using the aids...most events I don't need them.

Anyway, ran a few laps this afternoon with TCS 0 and ABS 1 and, surprisingly, I seemed to have more control than before..not entirely sure what's going on there, maybe it's just a lucky day (I get those sometimes). Managed to improve my pre-ABS+TCS time by a tenth and am only 4 tenths off my combined PB Sector times:

S1: 26.185
S2: 56.368

Oh, sorry @deaconblues82 : I'm ahead of you again :P

Not sure if I agree with you here @nursemorph.. re using TSC & ABS.. though I do see what you are getting at.. :).. let's face it.. we DS3 users.. need all the help we can get.. up against those with 'Steering wheels'.. that's an advantage for sure.. :D

Well I managed to pull one out of the hat.. great 1st sector.. with reasonable 2 & 3.. but not my best.. now I'll have to wait and see.. how long it takes you.. to overhaul me.. :P.. BTW.. TCS O ABS 1

new splits

I'm not surprised that you improved your time but I'm surprised you did it so quickly, this means you have some good wood to cut there. ;)

Another thing in order to improve your times (maybe for the next TT), forget the auto transmission and learn to use the manual one, it will be a mess at the beginning, but when you get used to it, this will become a second nature, your fingers will press the proper button without thinking which one you need to press.

Manual transmission is not only beneficial to get the best of the engine, in some cars you need to shift before the red line and in others way after the red line, in this Audi R8 the best shift is near the red line so automatic transmission is not a big impact on times, but, if you use manual shifting you can unsettle the car at your will when downshifting at the exactly moment you want, this is beneficial (sometimes) to get more rotation at the entry of the curve, in some cars you can squeeze the torque at your disposal using a longer gear when in automatic shifting it engages a shorter one.

I recommend you a wheel, but if for whatever reason you can't buy one, I recommend you a Dual Shock 2 instead of the DS3, looks like there are more levels of pressure or at least it's easier to control the gas and brakes, I don't have one but I've read this info in GTP (I don't know exactly where), searching more about this should't hurt anyway.

I'll second everything Ramon said, get a DS2 controller with a PS3 adapter if you can't get a wheel. But the wheel is 1,000% more fun :)

Wouldn't the adapter (?) cost more than the controller?

@Andy 0 : Not sure I'll beat that time, though you never know ;)

@eclipsee : I have no idea how I improved my time...was severely struggling with the settings as they are before so it may just be a lucky day. I agree with you on the transmission and wheel....unfortunately, I can't use manual as I can't use the shoulder/trigger buttons as it makes my hands ache too much (nice painkiller side effect) and the wheel is impossible due to the amount of back pain I suffer. To be honest, most weeks it doesn't hold me back too much (as evidenced by last weeks event) but I do struggle with this sort of car. I had noticed in the forum about using a dual shock but never really considered it...I will have a more thorough look into it.

@Jump_Ace : Yeah, as I said to eclipse, a wheel is just not physically possible at present....I would buy one straight away if it was possible. But good advice as well about the DS2....I remember that it had longer grip handles and was a lot more comfortable to hold...and if it's more comfortable, then it may not hurt my hands so much=possibility of at least manual gears.

As to the Audi, surprisingly I have gone even quicker and am now just 2 tenths off my ABS 10/TCS 5 time....and have even had a sub 26 first sector

DS2 Controller $24 (Amazon Prime):

DS2 > PS3 Adapter ($6):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0PG0BV4122&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-_-pla-_-PS3 Accessories-_-9SIA0PG0BV4122&ef_id=UxDR8AAAAGEX2ybw:20140404190842:s

$30 investment vs. hundreds for a wheel and cockpit.

I used the DS2 for like 7 or 8 years in GT3 and 4 and never had any problem.

I don't think so, as Jerome posted.
An used DS2 can be cheaper too.

@nursemorph , I wasn't aware about your physical condition, I hope you get well soon.

Dual Shock is a good piece of hardware but it's not very friendly with our hands for long sessions, anyway, X, O, triangle and square buttons of the DS2 are made of soft plastic if I remember well.

One of the benefits of a sreering wheel is that your fingers and hands won't get hurt anymore, as for your back, there are very comfortable cockpits in the market, or wheel adapters to be used when sitting on a couch, it all depends on your budget and available room though.

I had a nice first Picknick in the R8 and recorded the following times
26.878
57.595
This is without the oil change so improvement will come this weekend when i have visited the garage.

Normally I like cars that oversteer, but this car on this particular track is just plain evil. Whenever I go over a crest (and this track has LOADS), the back end keeps stepping out, and the moment that happens I might as well restart since the slides are uncontrollable. It doesn't matter what I do, the back end will simply not stay in line (other than driving slowly, which defeats the whole purpose of a time trial).

Still, here's what I've managed so far. Not especially pleased with these, but hey:

25.850
55.584

Done with this one, it is just frustrating now and I am going backwards.
26.942
57.692

Not looking forward to my first positive handicap this week and last place on the leaderboard!

Bring on next week!

Cars have Tc and ABS in real life guys and you surely don't drive them with a DS3!! You can be faster without them so how can using them give you an unfair edge??
And might I add, some guys would fast regardless

25.583
55.216

Managed to gain a tenth back in T3. :)

Main culprit in this lap was sliding too much at the double left-hander (one of my least favourite corners in the whole game). Given practice, I should be able to find another tenth in T2, perhaps more.

New splits from last night...

25.560
55.087

2 good sectors, and a so-so middle sector means I'm only 0.012 up

At least I don't have any close calls on this lap though

Not my combo... I know what I want it to do, but doing it with any consistency just isn't happening!

26.023
55.858

I changed the paint colour for good luck... typically, improved in 3 laps

25.659
55.034

A hundredth or two from my PB in the last sector, much happier with this one 👍
