GTP_WRS Week 22 : The Grip Sensei Returns (changes made for v1.09)

OP has been updated, with the main changes highlighted in RED.

  • Instead of the R&D Courtesy Car we are now using the BRZ GT300 Base Model '12, with an oil change. We were going to make you buy this for the online race anyway, so might as well buy it now. You probably already have one because the car is awesome and even the wheels can be painted. :D
  • Since it's a Garage Car (vs Courtesy Car) you can now adjust Brake Balance, and you can also adjust front and rear Aero. All other settings should be stock - Use the new "Reset to Default" button to make sure any changes on existing cars are reset.
  • Still using Racing Medium tires.
  • All times cleared from the leaderboard. @AspecBob's time wouldn't delete so when he posts new splits they'll overwrite his 1.08 time. I guess you're special, Daniel. :P
  • The handful of times that have been submitted so far are being cleared. If a 1.08 replay is submitted, we *will* know.

The experience of driving this new combo is very similar to the original, but you *will* be slower, if your 1.08 lap was anywhere near your limit.

Wish I'd read this before I ran another 10 laps this morning.. :-)

So I put together one lap. Then I spent nearly two hours almost completely in the GP section, because I wasn't anywhere near that one. Suffice to say I won't return here today.

O.K. Just ran two laps using the base model.. 2nd lap was the quickest.. even though I lost over .6 between T6 & 7.. so plenty of time to find..

Just need to run a smother lap.. as this was rather untidy

Low downforce vs high downforce vs ABS 0

All of them are faster in a paper scissors rock kind of way

It's extremely difficult to get one complete clean fast lap!

Glad I checked on here before starting another session....

Wasn't sure yesterday if it was the physics or me that was slowing me down, but I was struggling to cross the start line at the same pace ( about a car length down by the first braking point ), steering wheel seems to go lighter over curbs and on the back straight when I relaxed my grip on the wheel I nearly spun the car..

Anyway.... back to the ring.... expecting arm ache later ...

This seems like the best/most reasonable solution for all involved. Good job men 👍

Back to the grindstone :nervous:.

Haven't worked on the aero yet, and the power increase from the oil change makes things a bit more squirrely, but it's faster than my courtesy car times from last night:

22.917
50.717
1'20.484
1'41.800
2'26.184
3'01.100
3'29.650
4'19.417
4'58.267

So much for even temporarily leading D3.

Only lost 3 tenths to my R&D time by t9 so I'll call this a success... I did make a rather large mistake further along though so I'll be fighting on and hopefully won't have to submit this.

22.817
50.317
1:19.584
1:40.684
2:25.284
2:59.884
3:28.067
4:16.934
4:55.034

New splits, still with stock downforce:

22.716
50.316
1'20.033
1'41.150
2'25.450
3'00.333
3'28.933
4'17.983
4'56.316

And almost 5 seconds at the line.

No times from me yet, was doing a little running with BB 3 7, ABS 1 and downforce up 50 on front down 60 on rear (250 390 I think it was), which got me a few tenths up give or take all through the GP section. That got shortened early in the Nordschleife to roughly equal, which I held for a while, so I'm thinking it's faster or at least equal barring the occasional mistake.

Managed a clean lap, fast start but I played it safe towards the end, costing me about 2+ secs overall..

spun soooooo many times at carousel using 2nd gear I could slap myself! ....

Seems like most of you are using a lot less downforce than me. I also completely forgot to play with brake balance. Some experimenting to be done on my next session...

Have seen faster splits.. however.. I keep making errors.. on this long track.. so gained a bit.. and lost a bit.. but .9xx up over the line..

Wow, just couple of hours sleep and I'm losing by 4 seconds already :) I ran with default and max downforce yesterday. I will try minimum DF today. I suspect it will be faster but the brakes will likely need to be softened up to prevent lock ups.

Damn it.. made a mistake.. on the T9 time.. my brain cells are going crazy.... my times should read..

I was using stock settings, but look what happens when you knock 50 off rear aero....

I'll definitely try less wing next.

And yeah, there's something odd about the splits on this combo... Lots of repetition

Have to ask, is your split 9 correct? seems I'm 1.2 ahead at s8, then you gain 1.4 at s9?
Or am I just bad through that sector...

T9 4:50.250

Running stock wings with 5/7 bb

Aero at 150, 300; brakes 6, 5.
Lost a lot of time on the last half of the course but I'm happy with my time so far. I would definitely suggest minimizing Aero. :D

Or am I just bad through that sector...

Snap :(

And just to echo my last post, honestly look at the weird repetition in almost everyone's splits. The game must have some kind of delay when recording sector times.

It does, up to .017 or something. Watch the splits while driving, they'll usually be different.
