Here's some pics of the latest arrivals from evilbay. The 2 Maistos I actually got locally super cheap, and I've wanted the Panoz for a few months now and managed to find the exact one I wanted (#45) at a good deal so I'm quite happy. The Alonso model is just superb in every single way possible.

Panoz GTR-1 #45 - Le Mans 24HR '98 -- AUTOart 1/18

This car was driven by Andy Wallace and David Brabham at the '98 Le Mans 24hr. I was looking through an AUTOart catalog a few months back and this one particularly caught my eye (#45) since it was a Le Mans model and was driven by 2 drivers that I know of. They are quite rare nowadays (though not expensive by any means). This one popped up on ebay recently and had a buy it of $30 though it didn't have a box. Didn't really mind not having the box and really wanted the model, so I snatched it up. It's a really nice model and will hold a special place in my collection (you'll find out later why). Anyway, just glad to have found the exact GTR-1 I wanted as I didn't care about the other ones as much. As you can see there's no pics of the front compartment. That's because I haven't been able to get it open. It has a screw that you have to undo from the underside and I just haven't been able to get it off.

This is a project that I've been meaning to do for a while, but I never really got around to it...

I keep many of my models at my computer desk to keep me company. When the sun shines through the window and glints off their beautiful skin, I am happy. When the sun goes down and my apartment gets dark, I get sad, as these works of art lose their luster. However, I devised a way to remedy this.

Here's how my desk normally looks at night, with a few lights on around the place:

Now, after a trip to Home Depot for some lights and tools...

Desk = proper display case.

Me dances :D.

Nice desk display case, Kyle! I really ought to do that with my cases I have my models in.

I like the Porsche group photos, MustangSVT. I might have to get a Caymen now.

for some reason today my left hand decided it wanted to drop my kyosho CLK.
it scraped along the wall and got wdged in between my metal chair leg and the skirting board. the inside plasict on the front bumper is smashed and the roff is scraped.

Why did you drop it?

I feel sorry for you man. I know how I felt when I got my first AUTOart and I broke off the back wing cause I didn't know it was tied from the underside. Fortunately for me, managed to use clear glue to stick it back on and looks exactly the same. Let this be a lesson for you, but like I said, I know how you feel. :indiff:

Anyway, here are the deals for today.

Edit: double post sorry!

A bit sidenote. Do any of you visit the forum diecastaholics? What do you think about it. I've noticed it's mostly people that just show off their new expensive models and not much beyond that. Maybe I'm wrong. Would like someone to comment on that forum.

Not really. There are quite a variety of collectors on there, as you'll find out soon enough. *cough*gundam40's 'models'*cough* ;)

Showing off your new models is part of being in the diecast hobby. Show em off, give your opinions, answer any questions that other fans might have about the model before they decide on buying or not.

There is a section on maker news and reviews, as well as section for general talk, forum games and contests etc. As a comparison a gfx site would have members showing off their latest gfx, a diecast forum is the same but with a different subject.

Diecastaholics is probably more for the hardcore diecast fans who really enjoying their models and love to talk about them and share images of their collection.

i just realised im holding me AA evo while browsing this thread.

PUT IT BACK!!!!!

I guess I'm a bit different than others. I don't get diecast models just for the heck of it or just because it's a good model. Most of the time it's usually because it signifies some kind of special racing memorabilia or special memory of mine.

Anyway, wanted to ask you guys something. Do any of you know anything about that McLaren F1 in 1:12 scale that Minichamps is gonna make next year? I'm looking to put a pre-order on one, it's like $400. I may have that kind of money sometime next year, and it would really own to have a 1:12 McLaren as my main showcase model.

I think Minichamps already have a 1:12 scale McLaren F1 on the market, and I think it was limited to 2000 units. I think it had a slight mistake of an inverted blinker, not sure though.

I think I found a pre-order for the one that comes out next year. It's like $400, but it's good enough for me. I'll save up for it and in the next couple of months I'll have the money. Maybe I'll be able to actually get one, maybe not. But if I do, I will jump all over the house if/when the day comes I actually have one.

Also here's another deal. Maybe someone interested, though I doubt it lol.

I don't get it; how are you different from other collectors other than the fact that you prefer budget models over premium models and that you like to spam this thread with eBay auctions that no one really cares about? I see that you do what most of us do: post pictures of your new acquisitions online. Are you being hypocritical?

And where did you get the notion that folks from Diecastaholics collect models "just for the heck of it" or "just because it's a good model"? Are you implying that they have nothing better to do with their money than to spend it on diecast models? How do you know that collectors on Diecastaholics don't collect "because it signifies some kind of special racing memorabilia" or "special memory"?

You accuse those members that they "show off their new expensive models and not much beyond that." Is this a case of sour grapes? Is it wrong to share pictures of your collection with fellow collectors? Would you rather see pages and pages of text only threads with no pictures? What's the harm of taking pictures and then sharing experience with others? Here's an analogy for you: If you own a 1/1 supercar of your choice, would you rather store it in your garage and hide it from the rest of the world or "show it off" by driving it out on public roads? Why do car enuthsiasts have car meets? Because they want to share their passion with people others like them! So how are these collector's picture irritate you so much that it provokes to post what you've posted?

Taking pictures of models gives us a better appreciation of models themselves by spending additional time with them and look at them in different perspectives. I guess you are also different this way as well? Contrary to what you might believe, taking pictures of diecast models require skill and creativity; it's not a simple matter of shelling out cash.

You've made your accusations, it's about time you back it up.

leave the dude alone....

To him, what MustangSVT just said is like someone on dicastaholics having a go at GTP, not being able to understand why a bunch of guys would want to spend all day chasing a virtual laptime around a virtual track. Over at DH, twistedspoon is quite well known (he's like a daan of DH, to quantify scale (except daan is already the daan of DH, so... look, he's a well known mod, OK? :dopey:)) and thus takes comments like MustangSVT's to heart. twistedspoon posts here as much as I post at DH - that is to say, not much - and it's his number one forum, and GTP is 2nd or 3rd or lower; to you and me, GTP is numero uno, and DH (for me) is further down the list of forums visited.

Basicly, he's seen his favourite forum bashed, understandably doesn't like it much and wants to know why, in the same way you might want to know the reasons behind someone bashing GTP.

That's the impression I got, anyway, and it made sense to me. [silly]Maybe he just wants an argument :sly:[/silly] Who knows?

What I meant was that I noticed that most people over there just get the newest model out and post some pics of it and no text and that's all. I'm not that kind of "collector". Anyway, I think my comment was out of line and I didn't mean to bash your forum or create an argument. Let's leave it to rest, don't wanna start an argument now.

I wondered what that looked like. I'd heard about it but not seen any decent pictures of it.

Might just have to find one...
