From Germany to New Zealand in a week, as usual the rest of the globe is proving that they can travel half the world in the time it takes for New Zealand to send something from the top to the middle of their own country (that usually takes nearly two weeks). Though that may have been partly due to CK-Modelcars using a bit of a departure from their usual bombardments of packaging... Or so I thought.
The box looks kind of shoddy by their standards.
What? I didn't buy no Welly? Nor is it a 1/18 Bentley Continental.
This is the first time I've seen them use staples on their boxing, and they must have run out of their usual branded tape as the bottom of the box had standard beige tape.
But what's inside? You know what's inside, anyone who's bought from CK-modelcars knows what's inside.
Absolutely nothing but Styrofoam... Lots and lots of Styrofoam, I questioned whether I'd bought diecasts from the store, or if I'd actually just asked for a large box of green Styrofoam. Though with a quick bit of luck I found item #1, and you'll be momentarily baffled to find that I hadn't bought a diecast, or lots of Styrofoam.
Wooooah, momma. I paid eighty New Zealand dollars for that. $80! And you know what? It's worth it, it's brilliant. Celebrating not only the day Ford showed Ferrari how it's done, but also the year which Le Mans was won by two New Zealand drivers. Some people take pride in their country because of its values, or the sheer size of it, but me? Have a sort of underdog country making it big on the world scene. That's epic! Though my mother did just walk in and noticed it, and her face said it all. She thinks it's absolutely awful (too polite to admit it though. And it might have actually been the shock of the package-packaging ratio.), which leads me to believe I made the right decision in buying this.
I'm going to hang this up on the wall somewhere, and below it I plan on getting either a 1/43 GT40 to match, or a 1/18. I still haven't decided which would make it look best as a sort of display. I'm thinking 1/43 because it would be smaller, and with the same amount of detail at first glance. And that's the modern way of everything, right? Make it smaller but with more stuffed in.
But now you question, why on earth did you post that here? It's not a diecast. And you wouldn't be mistaken, it isn't. There was something else buried deep in the styropit. And no, it's not what you'd expect it to be based on the previous image... Back into the pit I search, it can take a man hours to find a 1/43 car inside a box this big...
But tadaaa!
To be honest, finding this only took about four seconds. I got lucky. When they're selling an HPI diecast of one of your favourite rally cars for $20, you don't wait around... Even though I procrastinated on buying this for about six months.
Today was/is a good day.
