Picked this up today, my first ever Ebbro. I haven't bought a 1/43 scale diecast in years (used to have some Polistil and Bburago, many years ago).

I just couldn't resist this louvered beauty, and at £16 i thought it was a bargain.

I'll be on the look out for the open top version next. :)

Wow... Doc, that's gorgeous.

Also, "Mooncraft"? Isn't that the same company who retooled a Daytona Prototype into a Super GT car (a GT300)? But seriously, never saw a prototype quite like that, and it looks tremendous. Never saw a Ebbro myself either, guess I need to keep my eyes peeled for one...

Thanks man 👍
I'm not sure about the Daytona thing, never knew that myself. Just quickly checked wiki, and yes you're right, they did. 👍

Knew it, it is the same company. And the car was also called "Shinden", I believe. Never knew they had done older prototypes prior to that, really interesting. Quality or not, you can call that a steal, because it is so unique... 👍

Thanks. 👍
I'm definitely going to be on the look out for the 500km version next (open roof version of the same car).

[EDIT]

There's some on ebay but the prices are are a bit steep, hopefully i'll find it at the same place i got this one.

Quick question about 1:43 IXO's. Can someone explain the two levels of quality thing because there are two levels of IXO pricing. From what I can tell they use the same body shells but just add slightly more detailing, often they look identical and I'm slightly confused.

Thanks

Do you have examples?

By the looks of it, the ones in the blisters are a tie-in with 'DeAgostini' magazines.
I have had perspex case ones from magazines, and these seem to be around £10.

So, I must ask, how much are both the perspex and blister ones?

Yep, it appears you're right. I remember buying a couple of Porsche DeAgostini tie-in magazines, many years ago. I can't remember what brand the cars were, but i'm sure one came with an acrylic case. The quality of one of the Porsches were terrible though. :yuck: I doubt that particular model was an IXO.

The blister ones are around half the cost of a cased one. I doubt the extra money is just for an acrylic case so I was wondering what's the difference? I swore there was a quality difference believing there had to be a reason but looking again they are pretty impressive.

It is bizzare indeed. If you type in IXO blister on the web you see them.

From what Ahmed (a buddy of mine who also collects) and I have gathered about it, IXO makes the lower-priced cars on demand from Agostini and other editorial/publishing houses that do this kind of collections to sell with magazine issues. In Mexico there's been a few of those collections, and several of those cars have the Ixo brand under them if you unscrew them from their base, as well as other brand that I can't remember now.

Then, you have the normal 1:43 Ixo cars, which have a muuuuuch greater level of quality (specially with later-production cars which have several photoetched pieces and the such, earlier models didn't have that level of detail) and sell for about... what, $45 or so? Haven't checked the website for a while.

I have a few of both and the quality difference is immense, but both are great deals for the price and quality you get.

I have a Veyron, Koenigsegg CCS, Zonda (broken mirrors) and a Murcielago (broken wing mirrors and a headlight which I had to glue back on) And ive since seen them online (especially the Zonda) so i know they're ixo. Still, you pays your money and gets your quality.

Thanks for the info, @Cano for the info 👍

Not a recent purchase! Have only bought 2 models in 2015, most of the pics I've shown here are from models dating back at least a year or more. :-)

What a beauty. That's the kind of collector's piece that needs a showcase of its own - and preferably placed on a revolving dais.
Is that a #20 Phillips in the toolbox? :)

Try that question here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/diecast-dioramas-op-for-gallery-thread-for-workshop.249319/

You might not only get an answer you might be faced with multiple questions.
It's also somewhat off-topic in here. ;)

No, no - not a huge deal - I'm sure all model collectors like to know that sort of stuff - but a detailed answer might lead to more discussion and that may derail the topic. So don't beat yourself up about it.

Now . . . back to waiting for AMG's next big bombshell.

That thing clearly isn't a scale model dear sir, you are merely hiding the fact that it is a real car.

Jokes aside, that Mercedes is a museum piece, the sort of thing that deserves a pedestal and a lot of caring. The detail is incredible, especially the toolbox with the screwdriver. It is just amazing stuff, it truly shows the might of your scale model collection, AMG. Top job. 👍

Now, what other incredible cars do you have in store for us?

Well, guess not all of us can keep our models as clean as AMGs, his look brand new.

Ha, I wish, despite all models sitting in nearly dust free display cabinets they still gather dust. When they're taken out to be photographed I clean them. My eyes see a perfect model. BUT then you load the pics on the computer and zoom in for dusts spots. And sure enough the bloody computer works like the Hubble space thingy and it show gazzilion dust particles the naked eye cannot see. Then comes the laborious task of removing the dust spots in post processing. Finally a jpeg is generated and uploaded to GTP. And of course they would have to be near flawless to impress you guys.

So the secret is out ;-)

Not sure if that was my quote, but I guess it is more or less what I said.

But really, that is not really a bad secret, is it? It just means that you care about your cars so much that you will go to the most extreme lenghts to keep them in a pristine condition for our eyes to be feasted. As far as I know, that just means that you really love your scale models. And for that I (and all the other dudes) am very thankful.

I tried to take some pictures in the dark and they turned out better than I thought(but I need ti get a better camera):

Hey, you don't have to get a super camera, check AOS's signature. He posted a really good post, where he goes into detail about taking good photos with lesser cameras. You should give that a look when you can.

Also, that Alfa is truly a thing to behold, what a beauty.
