GTPlanet Vintage Tuner Cup Ideas

Yeah, those were my thoughts Grey - it's a game, let the car stand as it is. If nothing else, just pretend it's the Jag roadster it was intended to compete with. :indiff:

Both. I've got a race tune and road tune for it. :sly: Road tune is less than 3 seconds slower on Trial Mountain (S3 tyres).

Added bit: I thought it was R2's. Geez, Holden lovers.......they're always that little bit slower.

I guess we hadn't made an official decision on that. For the race category, RJ suggested using R2's as the softest allowed compound and I tend to agree with him - R3's are stupidly grippy, beyond the point of all reality and reason, and can hide a LOT of errors in a tune.

I stuck with R2's anyway just for the record.

Gone and tested a new car out....a nice black BMW 2002 turbo. 367hp, 12sec 1/4's on race rubber, 282.4km/h top speed on max speed unassisted and 317km/h in slipstream down Le Sarthe!! Was a barrel of fun against a Zonda, Saleen, SLR McLaren, NSX-R & Audi LeMans. Even got some 2nd hand M3 rims fitted to it too, looks quite nice. :)

8:30 lap at the 'Ring in a 300SL with full weight, S2s, stock tranny, and only 235hp, anyone?

Oh, and that's with only a basic tune.

Parts so far:
Sports Exhaust
Racing Brakes
Brake Balance Controller
Port Polish
Engine Bakancing
FC Suspension
Triple-plate clutch
FC LSD

Yep, she's pretty damn stock. But cornering is SOO sweet...

It's a keeper.

If it's a keeper than keep it that way for SURE. Dunno if you've tried adding a lot of power to it, but that one at full power feels like trying to throttle your way out of mud.

Yeah, that's what I remember. It's one of my favorite classics so I won it quickly... and ouch. Even with just 410-ish HP, I seem to recall it spinning for years before it would hook. Gonna run re-test it right quick and see if I'm remembering correctly.

<edit> Did a few laps @ GVS, it's not QUITE as bad as I remembered, but even with long gearing and a really tight diff, it loves to spin through 2nd. With some work though it might not be bad at all.

It's a beautiful car.

Just one thing: For realism's sake, don't run more than 1.5 degrees of front and 2.5 degrees of rear camber.

It's the most the 300SL Roadsters (in race form) could run with their suspension geometry. And don't ask why you can run more rear camber than front camber.

That DOES seem odd regarding the camber. Meh, who knows. I haven't fitted S3's to it yet I just realized, so I may play around some more with it tonight. I need to win it in better paint too... mine's in that godawful creamed-corn color.

I gamesharked mine a while back. Figured "What the hell, I'm going on a buying spree. If it interests me in any way, I'm buying it".

I haven't let it touch the pavement anywhere but the 'Ring.

And:

Sounds about right! I think if I win another one I may add SOME power but keep some of the weight and see if that might help correct the spin. It's not TOO heavy stock anyway.

<edit>

how much power does that 1'35 trial mountain lap celica have? model??

i'm in the 1'20's on s3's at that course it's been my tuning course ever since my egress from el capitan and i know it well grip or slip. trying to break into the 1'1-'s there is my personal goal.

i have several cars in the 1'23-7's range there, granted they are fully tuned except for the exceptional r390 road going version that nailed a 1'32 stock and 1'20s with a tire upgrade(s2's to 3's). they include my R32 S-tune(615 hp), my C5 Corvette(a perfect competitor to the R32 at 500hp), and my Spirit R FD(501hp). There's others as well but those are my favorites, i love that course, short and sweet.

Dibs on the name blacksheep tuner, haha you're right it does have a ring;)

I think your celica will be a close match to the Iroc, at 350 hp it's a blast and runs right around a 1'35 on the touge, If you would like i can exchange tunes with you, I love a close competitor.

Lil note on the mountain, less front rebound strength helps me alot there, the way the turns are it lets me get on the throttle earlier, it shifts more weight to the drive tires and sucks the front into the turn (on a FR).I hope you find this usefull.

I know my iroc is close to that, it's in the low 1'30s. whats the weight of said vehicle though? the iroc is well over 1100 kg's. an effective torque curve goes a long way as well, 350 hp on an iroc ain't like 350 hp in an FC where you can gear tightly and still use your power band. 5 gears hurts as well though in this particular case i prefer it for the wider shifts. We shall see, tonight i'll put a concerted effort into it, i believe she sits at a 1'32 right now.

I have also noticed trial mountain is not a course where power helps much, 5 mph in the turns can overcome 50 mph in the straights time wise.

So to clarify, I need to change my C3 vette to R2 tyres- hello wheelspin probably. I still don't see the point, everyone commonly uses R3 tyres as their race tyre of choice and you still get plenty of wheelspin on some cars with those tyres.

Bugger. The R2s aren't grippy enough...........Good thing my star attraction is in the normal category with S3 tyres. I'll have to try the R2 tyres on the C3 now to see if it destroys the car or not, straight line should be fine but it already has power oversteer exiting corners, this could get dangerous.

how much power does that 1'35 trial mountain lap celica have? model??

1970 Celica 1600 GT. 209hp/S2 turbo & under 900kg, worked to the max but no chassis ridigity or restore. :) 1.35 was a conservative figure for you guys. :sly: And the S3 shod version is only 3 seconds slower around the course.

Handling is better than the BMW 2002 though. That thing is a steamboat compared to the Celica, but I am arriving at corners 30km/h faster in the Beemer, so some more driver adjusting is needed!!

on my list..:
-Toyota Celica
-300SL
-Alpine (race car)
-Toyota 2000GT
-Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 (will be published as MFT car later on..)
-Nissan Silvia 240RS :mischievous:
-FIAT 500 Abarth
-Peugeot 205 T16
-Isuzu 117 Coupe
-Nissan Fairlady 2000
-Mazda 110S
-BMW 2002
-Shelby G.T.350

Most on S3's. I'll sort them out later. Some will probably be dropped after testing.

That 2000GT is already taken by someone as well as 2002 Turbo, but i you're happy to enter same cars then go ahead- I wouldn't care :sly: I think that Vince's Shelby Mustang will be in it also.

bringing in same cars will bring equal car to the competition, which you can use as benchmark for comparison. after all, there's only limited amount of classics in this game..

Also, if each person claims one car and cant do one that somebody else is doing, then where is the tuning comparison of certain people for a car? Say I do a Subaru 360, I could do a crappy job compared to some other people here, but the judges would not know because because nobody else could submit a tuned version of the car.

Know what I'm sayin' ?

Well, it's based on feel alone, not how good of a job you did on a tune...

That's why I always include a "Improvement over stock" grading in my judgings.

Yes all valid points, I was just saying- I'm all for bringing in the same cars as others some times, like ya'll said, makes for a good comparison. But some people want to be unique and I was just letting Leo know that some of his cars were almost ceratinly going to be used by someone else, JUST IN CASE. You never know man.
