@Doomotron

If you're looking to let others share their opinions on car manufacturers, a possible suggestion from me could be to split the time frame between car manufacturers into weeks. Such titles could be "The view on car manufacturers week #2: Fiat", or maybe " Doom and the community's view on car makers week #2: Fiat", or something like that. The way you have it now seems a bit confusing because you have the thread titled for public opinion, but you post a view on a certain manufacturer every day, hardly giving much time for others to chime in.

Just an idea ;)

This would be a good idea. Involve the community: we all do love cars. 👍

Now that is a brilliant idea! All we need now is people to share their thought.
To start, how about you, Matej, on FIAT.
FIAT - slightly underrated manufacturer considering the number of innovations it brought to automotive world. Public loved certain qualities that came within their models, which is the reason FIAT was once very competitive contender for the European Car of the Year reward. Sadly, its reputation was tarnished by electric problems on certain cars and cheap build/appearance of mass-oriented lower-class models. Even nowadays it is hard to run away from that image.

However, engines build by FIAT are known for being sturdy, simple and durable if appropriate treatment is applied. In addition, parts are also very cheap, probably the cheapest you can find on our market. That is why buying a FIAT in mint condition is actually a decent choice for families with tighter budget.

Would I buy a FIAT? Well, it is hard to tell. I admire the Seicento Sporting (as a cheap entry car for students) and first Brava model (as a beautiful all-rounder estate car), but I think I would be overly occupied with doubts about the previous owner and his possible level of negligence towards the car.

I can tell though, that I would rather drive the Brava instead of Astra, Golf or Focus, for instance. It has more soul.

Well that is what I think. Not too short, nor too long, but hopefully informative enough. You can use my review to decide how you're going to deal with this project. It is also more convenient for others to keep your (or others') views on manufacturers in the first post as well. :)

This is when the thread, in my opinion, becomes great...

Week 2: Views On Lamborghini

MY VIEW ON LAMBORGHINI
An Italian supercar company owned by the German perfectionists at VW. Despite being owned by uninteresting people, they have done a good job of keeping it the way it should be - absolutely mad. And being German, they won't fall apart like most supercars.

It all started with the Muira. It was not the first Lambo, but it was the first that people really remembered. It was also the car that 'invented' the supercar, which I think is more important than the Ford Model T. (Mainly because I am more interested in 800HP death machines than a small, slow family car. ) It made me love cars.

When I started playing Forza 4 (NOTE: I prefer GT), I found the Muira Concept. I tried it out, like anyone would. It was very similar to the original, as it was very hard to drive for me, somebody who does not have a driving wheel. But I loved it. And that is all that really mattered.

If someone offered me a Muira, I'd turn it down. It just is too unprofessional for my taste. But if somebody made a track car out of it, I'd have it any day.

You getting better there. If you illustrate it with images that would be far better :)

I'll have to do that next week as you cannot upload a file when editing. Or perhaps I didn't see the button which does that.

Here are some photos of my favorite Lambos:

Lamborghini isn't my favorite manufacturer, but not my least favorite. The Italian company has produced some iconic Automobiles, such as the Miura, Countach, Diablo, and a bunch of others. The company has had its fair share in motorsports, from GT3 to Le Mans, and even produced engines for Formula cars and marine machines as well. The company has been through plenty of trouble, from the oil crisis of the '70s to even going bankrupt in 1978. But the company pulled through, and eventually in 1998 and since, it is owned by Audi. It's definitely a popular company among today's younger generation, with the greatness of the Aventador, and the Veneno. If you ask an adult what their dream car was when they were a kid, they might say the Countach or maybe the Diablo. It's one of those companies that is fortunate enough to have a wide fanbase. My favorite vehicle from Lamborghini would maybe be a Miura, 400GT, or even an Espada, or maybe one of those diesel tractors of the '50s.....

Tomorrow...
Some opinions on some manufacturer.

Remember: like your favorite opinion to have your say on who chooses tomorrow's manufacturer!

CURRENT STANDINGS

This thread is not dead, just that it is has been forgotten as it has been inactive.

Meanwhile, I've got some basic rules for the thread:

RULES
  • Each opinion post must be between two and four paragraphs long.
  • Person who posted the opinion with the most likes gets to choose the following week's manufacturer.
  • When choosing, the manufacturer must be functioning and building cars and cannot be one we have already covered.
  • Opinions of models of cars are not permitted.
  • Do not directly copy someone else's post.
  • Should not go into high levels of detail about one car, model or person.
  • Opinions should be enjoyable to read and not boring.

Is that an error?

Yes. :lol::lol:

Well, as the likes (Not lies) have stayed the same, I sadly have to choose what this week's manufacturer is. I wish I could wait to see what random make would be chosen to somebody off the internet, but life's cruel, isn't it?

This week's manufacturer: Nissan

DOOMOTRON'S VIEW ON NISSAN
Nissan is basically Renaults with a swanky body and a platinum V surrounding a logo obviously taken from the London Underground. Right now they make some brilliant machines with more technology than Apollo 11 (Probably). Although they are not my favorite car manufacturer, I would quite like a GTR for myself.

Back in the old times, Japanese cars were rusty and unreliable (Just like Ed Miliband), and were not liked in places in Britain for 'not being British' (That was until the Toyota 2000GT came along), but despite this, my father bought a Datsun (British Nissan) 240ZX (Or one of those cars in the Z series from those days), and he loved it, but had to sell it because it was 'too fast' and 'unpractical', as I was just born.

Overall, Nissan is one of the best Japanese manufacturers today, despite the fact that they are owned by Renault.

If your favorite post is mine, please like it!

My View on Nissan:
I used to admire Nissan (especially Pulsar GTi-R and Fairlady Z32) before Polyphony ruined the experience by overloading GT titles with all sorts of different Nissan models which shared very little if none dissimilarities at all. Since I used to play GT games a lot in my earlier days, this had to leave some effect. Nowadays I try to avoid looking at Nissan or driving a Nissan in any driving game, simply because I feel I'm fed up with them.

I have nothing against alliance with Renault as long as Nissan keeps its visual identity, build quality and at least petrol series of engines made in Japan.

Would I buy a Nissan? I would certainly inspect what other Japanese manufacturers have to offer before doing it.

@Doomotron Voting should be carried out by the end of a week, that way people posting last won't be at disadvantageous position. Good thing is that you can 'like' and 'unlike' certain posts. :)

Nissan, one of the most well-known manufacturers of all time. From the 510 of the late '60s/early '70s, to the Godzilla we call the GT-R, the company that partners with Renault has made it's mark in the industry. Here in America, we don't have the sports cars like the Skyline (excluding the R35) because of the emissions regulations. Instead we have Infiniti, who builds cars like the G37, the QX series, and so on.

I myself am a fan of some cars from Nissan, like the R32, Pulsar, and the Datsun 510. Some of the Nismo cars are nice to, like the 400R. It has its place on the gaming industry as well, from Forza to NFS and to, oh what's that game, Gran Turismo. Some car I think are a bit overrated, like the R34. As long as Nissan is still Nissan, that's fine with me. Ever heard of a Renault Maxima anyone?

Then you have the in-house tuning brand known as Nismo. Nismo does some pretty fine work in my opinion as far as tuning and appearance is concerned. I'd love to have the S-Tune R32 or maybe even the Nismo Patrol to tear up the streets. Nissan has been in a number of racing leagues, from rally to Super GT to Le Mans. That's only helped boost their reputation even more.

Well, here are the scores:

Matej - 3 Likes
Cowboy - 2 Likes

So Matej will pick this week's manufacturer!

Okay, I'm opening the week with Hyundai.

My view on Hyundai:
Certain people are still skeptical of cars made in Korea although there is no reason to be so - on our market Hyundai used to be quite popular due to sturdy and reliable construction of the older Accent models. I haven't paid much attention to the current i-range, but I think people are very satisfied as I often see them on streets and they regularly appear on 'best buy' lists in terms of value-for-money.

However, what I particularly admire is the fact that Hyundai uses own engines, own transmissions and own platforms for building their cars (I think there are some exceptions). Therefore, when you buy a Hyundai, you can expect to get authentic Korean product, without typical manufacturing borrowings and sharing that have degraded most car manufacturers nowadays. Genuine product allows you to have better understanding of the people and culture who built the car.

What Hyundai? I would be interested in older Accent GT models or the i10.

DOOMOTRON'S VIEW ON HYUNDAI
For me, this company is one where I say "Oh yeah, that company actually exists!". It's one that I keep in the back of my head, but shouldn't. There are two cars I especially love, the Accent and the Genesis. They look quite nice, and if I was offered one for free, I'd have it.

But there is one issue - there's something about a Hyundai that is 'cheap'. I simply can't explain it, but if someone offered me one for a price, I wouldn't have it. Weird.

Hyundai used to be extremely cheap cars that felt like they were going to fall apart if you looked at them. Modern Hyundai's are fairly decent vehicles though, and something like the Genesis and Equus are very nice in terms of both design and comfort, especially for the price. I don't think I'd ever actually spend my own money on anything from the Hyundai line, but I would easily suggest one to someone who was looking for something new, affordable and had a really good warranty.

Hyundai, huh?

I actually looked at some last summer as a possible replacement for my Impala (parents were considering a group policy on the insurance.). The cars looked pretty nice, but by God they had the worst CVTs. I test drove a base Veloster and it was a total let-down. It took 30 seconds for it to change "gears" and the throttle response was awful. Ride wasn't bad but...

Anyways, Hyundai: Really well made luxury cars, bloody terrible economy cars.

Sorry for being late doing this, but here are the scores:
3RD Place: Obelisk and Joey D
2ND Place: Doomotron (ME)
1ST Place: Matej

So again, Matej will choose the manufacturer.

I've also come up with some new rules:
  • If a player is picked three times in a row, the person in second place instead chooses the manufacturer.
  • If that happens three time the 3rd person chooses, and so on...
  • The new day for the results will be Friday. Why? Because I have loads of time as TV is rubbish here in France on Fridays in my opinion.

I'm going to open the weekend with Holden. I'll need some time to recollect my own thoughts, though.

DOOMOTRON'S VIEW ON HOLDEN
Holden is the Opel of the Aussies. My favorite is the Monaro, simply because it has much equipment for a very small price against comparable cars. I don't know much about Holden, so this opinion will be very short. Very.

Holden_logo.svg.png

Holden, the General Motors of Australia. The company was founded in 1856 as a saddlery company before becoming an automotive company in 1908. After that, they eventually became a sub-sidary of General Motors in 1931 in which then the company was known as General Motors - Holden Ltd.

All Australian-built Holden vehicles are manufactured at Elizabeth, South Australia, and engines are produced at the Fishermans Bend plant in Port Melbourne, Victoria. Historically, production or assembly plants were operated in all mainland states of Australia, with GM's New Zealand subsidiary Holden New Zealand operating a plant until 1990. The consolidation of car production at Elizabeth was completed in 1988, but some assembly operations continued at Dandenong until 1994. Although Holden's involvement in exports has fluctuated since the 1950s, the declining sales of large cars in Australia has led the company to look to international markets to increase profitability. On 11 December 2013, Holden announced that it will cease vehicle and engine production by the end of 2017, however, the company will continue to have a large and ongoing presence in Australia importing and selling cars as national sales company.

Holden to me is a manufacturer in the back of my mind. I don't think terribly much of them since Chevrolet basically makes the American Holden's. The Monaro is my favorite vehicle from the company, and it's a shame that they are ceasing car production in 2017. Maybe they'll make saddles again.....
