perfect!

I urge all the British members to stay away from Tesco Value Vodka. The volume you can get for the price and the taste will make you only regret it.

Why would you buy generic vodka to start with?...

Nevermind, just checked.

For the record, I think there's also Tesco in China, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey and USA... although they're mostly joint ventures. Linkonium

There's me thinking the Value products were labelled in Polish, Czech and Hungarian cause of teh immigrant population.

Drinking Stella Artois right now, not that impressed. Not that much different than Heineken... Hoegarten (or however its spelled) will likely be next... Problem is that "next" comes after exams and stuff. Which is stupid. Because I'd rather have "fun" for the next week or two as friends are starting to come home from school...

I haven't touched alcohol in the past 4 weeks, which is something I don't think I've done since I started drinking.

But the thing is I have a friend coming over for the weekend that can definitely talk me into drinking again. I've been craving some Powerboones, so we'll see what happens.

Powerboones is buying a few bottles of Boones (cheap fruity "wine" drinks) and also a fifth of vodka. Drink the Boones down to between where the bottle starts going straight and the label, then fill 'er up with vodka to the top again. Chill, shake, serve. Powerboones.

I'm sitting on almost nine weeks without alcohol. And then it was 19 and a half years sober before that, so I think I'm doing pretty well.

I like Stella quite a bit, I thought it had a pretty good flavour and was pretty smooth. Try Carlsberg or Carling and see how you like those, they might be a bit harder to find though.

Argh! Never, ever recomend Carling to anyone. It's only slightly bareable when its "Super chilled" and on tap. Cans or normal Carling are detestable.

Carlsberg Export however is good stuff in my opinion. The standard is also good, but the Export is definetley more favourable.

It's better then the crap we get here in the states, have you ever had the displeasure to drink Budweiser, Miller Genuine Draft, or Coors?

Never mention those beers to anyone. They will judge our "beermanship" by them if they come to visit.

Off the "beer train", I have discovered a new Scotch and a new Bourbon that are quite good.

The Macallan 12 - is a fine 12 year old Scotch. Straight, with Soda, or with a Cola or 7Up. It is a bit High end to mix with pop though.

And Woodford Reserve Bourbon.
It's a low enough proof that the taste4 shines through the "burn".

Now now, not all American beer is that bad. Sam Adams comes to the rescue quite often, and its usually my choice of "affordable" beers out there. That being said, the basic stuff isn't horrible... You get what you pay for. I'd happily have those over a Corona, or even a Becks. Thats just my personal preference.

My alcoholic adventure began with Budweiser thus I can drink it like water hence I never drink it. Though I've avoided Coors despite a friend of mine trying to convince me its "good stuff". But he's a reformed Strongbow (Cider) abuser.

3p of Grolsch and 2p of Strongbow while at Lord's and London Victoria today. Bit cold for cold cans though.

Just to randomly give input to the conversation, lately I've been drinking a lot of cider black. This is basically cider with blackcurrant squash in it. I'm sure almost everyone knows about it anyhow, but I thought I'll just weight it in the discussion about random beers that doesn't seem to taste too nice and are pretty bland (as in, not sweet enough). Basically, if it's Strongbow only available on tap, I'll ask for a cider black. If it somehow got Bulmers (the best in my opinion) or Magners (interesting hoppy taste to me) then I'll take it as it is! They're too good as they are to sully it with blackcurrant juice to my tastebuds. Some clubs and pubs actually serve Blackthorns aside to Strongbow and Bulmers. Blackthorns aren't *that* bad in my opinion.....however I was rather drunk when I had it so my taste buds probably was out of whack anyway.

Just to make it clear, I've had about five pints of cider black, so I'm quite drunk for a 10 stone guy..... *ooooops!*

I've had some decent Sam Adams before but really the only American beers I like come out of micro breweries.

Bell's/Oburon (however its spelled) is a local favorite around here... As I recall, its made in Kalamazoo, usually is pretty cheap too. It will likely be my summer beer of choice, but I'm definitely steering clear of Corona. I don't like cervesa...

Dos Equis is way better than Corona.
And I have to agree with Joey.
I like Sam Adams, I like some varieties of Leinie's, and then Micro brewery stuff.

But I will usually reach for the "hard" stuff before beer.
I drink for taste, and I like the taste of Scotch and Bourbon above the taste of almost all beer.

I became quite fond lately of Leffe in small quantities (quite expensive, for a beer), or some Tuburg Red when I'm on a budget...

I disagree. Corona is a good warm-up drink: it's light, and won't get you too messed up on an empty stomach. It tastes a lot better with a squirt of lime. In terms of flavor, it's not the most exciting, but I like it a lot. Dos Equis is a little stronger and has more bite. You can't really go wrong with either, particularly if there are chips and salsa lying around ;).
