^ The new wheel (Fanatec 911 GT3 RS v2) is good. I haven't mentioned it much because people jumped all over me when I talked about the triple-monitors and figured I'd get the same treatment for the wheel. :nervous:  I would recommend it over the G27 every time. Any one feature is just a slight improvement but when you put them all together it makes a big difference. The wheel is a larger diameter, not quite as big as a real car but close enough that it doesn't feel like a toy. It's also a bit thicker which adds to the non-toy feel. The feedback is stronger, smoother and more detailed, feels more natural. AND......it doesn't try to shake itself to death like the G27 so I can drive on dirt roads now! :dopey:

I only got the wheel, still using the G27 pedals and their custom invert-mount box (with Nixim spring). The Fanatec came with an adapter that allows the G27 pedals to work, which was nice. There is an adapter that will let the G27 gated shifter work as well, but it's about $40usd after shipping. A Fanatec sequential shifter (which I desire MUCH more) is only $60usd, so I'll likely be going with that first and eventually get the G27 shifter adapter. 👍

It's only $179!!?? I thought those high end wheels were at least double that without the pedals. My frugal brain can easily justify that for GT6. Does it have enough buttons and knobs to be able to program everything you need for racing, specifically pulling up the menu for adjusting brake balance, torque split etc.?? Is there anything it can't do that the G27 could? Is this one of the wheels that the simulation etc. modes work on? If so, have you tried the different modes?

I just fired up the PS3...I'll go looking to see if anyone is around. If not should I make a post and open the room?

I should have a room open in about 5 minutes.

@JP, I'll reply about the wheel later.

EDIT: and the room is open. 1472-6681-3286-8589-3379. Everyone is welcome to join.

Well that was a disaster, major lag and network problems. Cars jumping around, people disappearing mid-race.......have me flashbacks. :nervous:

Happens. You can go weeks without a problem doing the same thing over and over and never have an issue, then all of a sudden for no apparent reason, all heck breaks loose. Room filled up in an awful hurry, looks like you're Mr. Popular already.

Do you want us opening rooms with that name at this point or do you want to keep it close to the chest for now?

I was about to show up in the room, but I was worried of lag ... :scared: and it did happen :(

We would have blamed you for sure:sly: When you lag it only seems to affect you though and it's easy to spot. Show up and let's have a look.

I think it was something with the whole network. As I mentioned in the room, my side monitors disconnected about 5 times and that's something that very rarely happens, never had it happen that many times in a night. In the past Owens and I have been in a room when the side monitors lost connection and we both lost them at exactly the same time which suggests to me it's a network issue and not a local issue (i.e. my connection). Also, people were dropping out of the room mid-race which isn't something that usually happens from one person having a bad connection. Oh well.

You can use the room name if you want to do some spec and/or shuffle racing, it seems to be attracting attention. The room was half full after being open less than 10 minutes and was all the way full about 10 minutes after that. I do use a fixed-host status so the room doesn't end up in bad hands after I'm gone. I probably won't be around tonight (not feeling well) so if you want to open one up this evening feel free. 👍

And I will boot them, I just don't want to spend all my time booting people instead of racing. Having good room restrictions will (in theory) scare off the riff-raff and attract the people who actually want good racing. The Ferrari restriction is a good example, if people see they can only get in a Ferrari and not a Tank car or some other nonsense they'll likely either just leave or say "heck yeah, I'll jump in a F430 Scuderia and race with these dudes!" At least that's my plan, should make things a little easier.

@Rido, we run in public rooms but if you want to send me a FR so you can just follow me into the room feel free.

Given the large number of randoms that pop into the room, I think running spec cars is going to be difficult. Maybe it'll shake out differently with a lot of regulars down the road who knows. One thing I might suggest is giving a plug in to GTPlanet to see if you can get at least some of the randoms each night to look at the thread. Perhaps maybe a second room called simply, "GTPub Spec Racing" or something like that might also be an option in the future if you go that route.

Sorry guys, I've come down with some kind of illness and I feel like walking death so I'll be out of commission for a while. I'll be back at it as soon as I'm feeling better.

Vaginitis is rampant these days... :sly:

I felt that one all the way across the border:sly:

Work permitting I should be around tonight. If I go to open a room I'll post it here.

Get well soon.
I was gonna open the room yesterday, but my local power provider said nein.

Not gonna miss it, I'll keep at least one PS3. It's just so far off and I'm going to want new and exciting racing before then, GT5 doesn't have anything exciting anymore. GT6 is going to be about 60-70% exactly the same content as GT5 and I'm so tired of the tracks in GT5 that a few new tracks and a few new cars won't keep me excited for too long. IMO the biggest problem with GT5 has always been a lack of useable circuits. Sure, we have 60 or 70 options but well over half of them are rubbish and not fit for league racing.

What are you doing besides GT at this point? What's catching your eye?

I've only played GT5 since launch day. I don't currently have a PC capable of playing games and there really aren't any other options on PS3 that are worth a darn (unless you like arcade racers, and I don't). I guess I did try Dirt 3 for about 15 minutes, it looked great but had no "feeling" to it, more like I was watching than driving. Shuffle/spec racing for 3-5 laps at a time is fun but it doesn't really scratch that racing itch, if ya know what I mean. No other games on PS3 support triple monitors anyway, and once you've gone triples it's difficult to play any other way, so my only real option if I want good racing outside of GT5 is to go PC.

No worries, I don't currently have the funds to buy/build a gaming PC so nothing is happening in the immediate future.

Where did you see that? I'd love to have the circuit but didn't see any mention of it.

There was a dude who posted a thread a couple of months ago...bowen747 was his name. He said his buddy who works at Goodwood I believe, saw the GT guys out there spending a lot of time mapping out the hillclimb and the circuit. Of course GTP being what it is he was massively trolled and basically gave up in frustration because he had no pics to "prove" it to the keyboard warriors. So as it turns out, he was right, so given that he saw them doing this and they were on the circuit, I'm going to leap to the likely conclusion that the circuit will also be included, maybe as DLC later is my guess, but maybe in the release package.

PM him and he should quote himself where he posted. Say EAT IT SUCKAS! LMAO

Hope you're feeling better Mr B.
In the meantime, this may cheer you up:

Thanks Mr. Vark, you know how to make a guy feel better. I'm still alive, for how long remains to be seen.
