We have a winner!
Tommy Kaira built the ZZ (of which the S model is represented) and the ZZ-II Prototype. Unfortunately Japan was hit by a recession and the company was all but buried. Autobacs saw the situation and decided to buy the company, renaming it ASL so as to keep the two branches separate. ASL looked at the ZZ, liked the basic car, revised a bit, reskined, and renamed it the Garayia, which I would also have accepted. If you stop and look at the outline of the Garayia, you can see where ZZ remains.
Just so you know, the ZZ-II didn't die either. IT was revised a bit altogether though. renamed the RS01 (for now) it looks almost identical to the ZZ-II, just a bit more edge to it.
