[GUIDE] Historic Racing Car Cup

I used a 63 Vette race car. if the faster cars have crappy pole position and you get into first early you can block them from passing. However sitting in 1st with those monsters tickling your bumper is a very nerve-racking 5 laps.

I did it with the 66 Jaguar. I put the turbo upgrade on it so it could be faster and have some shot. I think that was the most fun I had racing. I had only had my wheel for like under a week and i was all over the place keeping the car straight trying to get the most power down.

I had trouble with this race for the longest time, seemed no matter what car i gave my b-spec driver he couldn't win. My buddy lent me his '66 Jaguar racing car and I used a hot blooded driver. He won by a good half lap. I can't tell you how relieved i was.

Hi,
I can't beat this event for the life of me (I can't even get top 3 on either race). I have about 700k which is clearly not enough to buy any of the "real" classic race cars so usually I buy an older car and tune it but I still am getting destroyed. I've tried a fully tunes Shelby Cobra and a 74 Countach also fully tuned and I'm luck if I can get in 5th place with 2 laps or so to go. How on earth are people beating this event?

Have you checked the tuning forum on here? I'm sure there are some threads dealing specifically with this race and might provide setup for a few cars available for that race. What I did was do B spec until level 21, and if you win the Like The Wind series you will earn a Toyota 7 race car. You can easily win the Historic Racing Cup with that car.

A Spec or B? A should be easy enough in a fully modded Toyota 7, which is a prize car. Just make sure the 2J doesnt start in the first 3 spots. B Spec is a bit trickier, but definately do-able. Make sure your driver is a decent level and only keep him ~80% hot or he will wreck/spin out.

You could also hop into the trading forum and pickup a race car if you don't have the money. Most people are willing to help out.

A Spec is possible even with an un-modded Toyota 7, at least after you hang racing softs on it. No need to tinker with the engine or suspension. I managed two golds with it using a DS3 and I suck as a GT5 jockey. Like Sandy said, key is the grid position of the 2J. Once he gets the lead, you're not coming back for the win. But if he starts down in the pack, he tends to stay there. The other cars the Toyota can handle.

I actually used the 60s vette race car that is often in the lineup. Tuned it up and used racing softs. If you get in first early it's just a matter of blocking. It's doable several different ways but this vette has quickly become one of my favorite cars after this race.

Edit: here's the car I used:

Though obviously this would never work for b-spec

Try to set up a trade for an old race car. I used a tuned Ferrari 330 P4 for the race. A tuned Jaguar XJ13 and Ford Mark IV will do the trick as well (I have all three). Use either of these three and you unlock the trophy. The Toyota 7 is much more powerful but the Chaparral 2J seems to be the best one. If you don't have an old race car by the beginning of next week, I can send you one.

After going through the same failures as yourself and spending a lot of credits on maxing out my Shelby Cobra and a classic Camaro, I traded for a 2J and won relatively easily.

Or if trading is not your thing, do the Indy 500 and use the XJ13 that you win.
That pretty well breezes it, but it still doesn't hurt to shove the J2 into the wall at St Devote :)

B-spec I haven't reached this race yet, but A spec I won this series with the chapparal 2D, it was extremely hard to hold off the 2J but I did it.

Fully tuned Countach with a wing and a good setup should win you this race but not easily. But it's defnitely possible. I did it first try after wasting money on a 427 Cobra that I couldn't keep straight at Deep Forest.

69 Z28 Race modded and driving like I had to win no matter who I killed doing it. Alot of blocking and don't spare the bumpers. Not an easy win but I was laughing so hard I could barely stay in the seat. Don't let the 2J get out in front. Don't be scared to race dirty. You might actually find out that it's fun. On my second account I've been trying to win as many races as possible with cars that are not good enough to win. Actually cars that force me to beat bang and bash my way to the front as well as using every shortcut possible. I ran most of the races clean and in slightly underpowered cars the 1st time and found that there were very few challenging races in A spec.

I need to try a 2J out for myself because that thing does seem beastly. I agree with frontrunner91 - race dirty. I always push the AI out of my way and I use force to keep them behind me.

My Ferrari 512BB can help you! Just set the spring rates quite low and you'll be amazingly quick... if u want I can PM you my settings! ;-)

What's the best car to use for this event? Seems a lot of people just use a fully tuned lp400 countach. I'd prefer to have something a bit better. Been thinking of the Ford Mark IV, and the Jaguar XJ.

Toyota 7, Chaparral 2J, 330 P4, Mark IV or XJ-13 will all do the job. Just get in front and don't let them pass if you choose one of the last 3.

If you complete the 500mile Indy race in the Endurance Series you get the Jaguar. It worked just fine for me. On Cote de Azur I recommend reducing the top speed and increasing acceleration by messing with the gear ratios.

Thanks, might just try get that toyota from b-spec. How far away is the endurance series? I have only completed a couple series in Extreme.

I knew I should have bought the 2j when i had the chance. But I tuned a lambo and Ford GT instead... I thought they would be faster. Oh well, **** happens.
