Halo 3: ODST (not worth $60.00 if you already have Halo 3. my opinion)

I always thought Spartan's were human..just illegally drugged and geneticly changed to jump super super high.

That they are, among other atributes that are enhanced.

I guess that I should have said a less genetically enhanced human.

I'm pretty excited for its release.
I'm fairly new to the Xbox world. (Still under 1 year of ownership)
And the main reason I picked up a 360 was to play Halo 3.
And to have a new game released for the series so soon (for me) means I have more options when it comes to playing.

Not that I'm board with H3 or anthing. I still have quite a few achievements I need to get yet. But its nice to have varity.

Ok Camaroboy, i see that you managed to get your hands on it already.

What is your impression of ODST?

(I won't be picking mine up until after work today) :(

I've got it. Anyone up for some action? I still suck so it would be more like you getting free points but I like to help whenever I can.

It should be at my house tomorrow (9/24). My gamertag is AndrewPaul, I'd love to get some Firefight going.

We rented ODST on Tuesday and without even trying, beat the campaign in about 4 hours. Thats with quite a bit of exploration. So you could easily beat the ODST campaign in about 2 1/2- 3 hours. Quite disappointing.

We have spent most of our time in Firefight. In fact we played one level for 2:20 minutes and had over 500,000 points before we died. I also like how the ODST firefight has "Assist" medals. Thats something Halo 3 multiplayer does not have.

Wednesday we decided to rent the ODST multiplayer disk. Yes they rent both disks seperatly. 👎

Overall I am VERY glad we did not buy ODST. As I have been saying forever, the only way ODST is worth $60.00 is if you dont have Halo 3. Otherwise $60.00 for this expansion is a massive rip off. This is a $20-$30 expansion and thats it. And thats coming from someone that loves Halo 3 and Bungie.

Disappointing to hear since I just traded in NFS Shift for this. Only played a few games of Firefight with 2 friends, seems like it will be good enough to get me through 'till FIFA 10

You cant say I didnt try and warn you. I have been saying forever that ODST is not worth $60.00 especially if you already have Halo 3 and all the maps. :sly:

The second disc with Halo 3 multi is a huge plus for me.

Basically I traded Halo 3 for GOW 2 a while ago (through Goozex) and that was well, well worth it, as I've played more GOW 2 online with my friends than probably any other game. Gonna be nice to play Halo 3 multi again though.

I still can't comment as I haven't had a lot of time to play it yet.

In the actual game, I have only played Firefight on easy by my self just to see what all the hub bub was about. I have to say, It was pretty fun. I can imagine how interesting it could get with 3 other people, and kicking the difficulty up.

Most of my limited time has been spent exploring the new maps, and looking for the new skulls. I have only located 1/3, but didn't pick it up as I want to save that to be the last Vidmaster achievement I get. (Figured I would save the easiest for last.)

Camaro, Endure is one of the Vidmaster achievements. Here is its description as posted on one of the wiki sites.
Vidmaster Achievement: Endure is an achievement in Halo 3: ODST and one of the Vidmaster Challenges. It is unlocked when you play on Firefight, on any mission, and pass the 4th set (the 12th round and 60th wave) on 4 player Heroic co-op Live. It is worth 25 Gamerpoints

I was going to see if you wanted to try to get this. But if you only rented, I'm guessing probably not.

I've heard that you should try playing the campaign mode by yourself to get the full effect of the story and atmosphere. I can see how this might be a good idea - I try to avoid watching serious movies with any more than one other person (though alone is preferable).

If you want we can try this over the weekend. I have the rental for a few more days.

I just got this game and I'd be down for some firefight if anyones interested.

Sorry, for the double post, but I wanted to update.

I just got down playing about 3 hours of Firefight mode, and it was great! It's kind of the anti-Horde mode on Gears of War 2 - it has bigger areas, more movement, less cover and hunkering down in one location. Both are great. I think what I'll choose to play will depend on which friends of mine are online at that moment.

This kind of "wave" style team co-op gameplay is really something I've grown to like. It's truly cooperative and forces you to develop real strategies on the fly, since you're staying in one specified area and therefore are able to see what tactics work and what doesn't. As long as you're playing with friends and communicating, it's a blast.

Firefight's great but is anyone having disconnecting problems both in that and co-op?
Only if someone has a bad connection. I have played a ton of firefight and have only been disconnected 1 time and that person had a bad connection.

I knew this campaign was short but holy crap we played through it again on saturday and no joke...beat it from beginning to end in including walking through the city as a rookie in
3 hours on legendary. :dunce:
One of the shortest campaigns I have played in a long time.

I finally got a chance to start up a campaign Sunday evening. I managed to play through Rookies first mission and into Bucks up to the point where the Hunters show up. At that point I was too tired and I ducked into a building in order to save in a safe spot.

So far I have been impressed with the game play. And a couple of times I have charged in forgetting I'm not a Spartan this time, then having to duck for cover to keep from getting wiped out.

yeah, its super easy on legendary with more then one person, though firefight on the other hand.....well thats fairly fun and then add the 3 new maps good enough for me.

Took me around 4 and 5 hours to do solo Legendary (Thats what I started with too) so a short campaign was pretty annoying (but I predicted that) but being alone made it very intense.

Making sure you could win an encounter before starting it or just finding another route was fun and very new for the Halo franchise. Too bad Bungie didn't put this much effort into Halo 3's campaign.

Firefight is fun but that endure run (got it on my first try) was startin to get borin becuase it was pretty easy for me but my friends all suck and can't do legendary ;)

Whoa I dont agree with that bold part at all. The Halo 3 campaign is MUCH better than ODST by a longshot. Plus it is easily 4x longer with much much more action.

Thats a matter of opinion really.

Also, I did both games solo Legendary and they took about the same time for me.

I just had more fun with ODST's campaign. Hell, nothing I have seen in a game can compare to the scope of ODST. Those covenant cruisers flying around the city of Mombassa in real time is just awe-inspiring. (still love the scene of installation 04 rising from the mist at the end of "the Covenant" in Halo 3 though)

I dont like searching for items so I am sure I wont even bother with the audio files. I spent the last couple nights helping friends with firefight.

Friday is the last day for our rental and I would say we got about all we want out of ODST. Firefight was a blast but there isnt much replay value with it since it doesnt have matchmaking. Only a week later and I am already having a hard time finding friends to play ODST with.

Hopefully Bungie learns from ODST and Halo 3 and allows matchmaking for the co-op in Halo Reach. Otherwise I probably wont be buying Halo Reach either. It needs matchmaking for the campaign or some sort of drop in drop out. So far Halo 3 has been the best of the series and I have no reason to buy another Halo game until they can top Halo 3.

Finally unlocked Vidmaster Challenge Endure last night.

Alpha Site is the easiest map to do this on. But you need a group of people that communicate and work as a team. 2 together on one set of steps by the ammo. 2 together on the other set of steps by the other ammo. NEVER go into the middle until after each round to get ammo. The key is that you have to communicate as a team and keep moving when enemies throw grenades. The only time we died was from the invisible brutes that throw fire grenades and also the hammer brutes.

With that said we are done with ODST. Had a few more achievements to get but wont bother with them. Its too boring collecting items and I am happy enough with everything we unlocked in the game. We will be returning the rental tonight. I also stand by what I said before. If you already have Halo 3 and all the maps, then ODST is not worth $60.00.

Found this today.

im just over-all disappointed in ODST.

fire fights are fun, until you realize you've been in the same map for 3 hours and it starts to drag on and on and on ... if the maps would rotate every 5 waves and let you keep your score, this would be much better imo.

no dual wielding pistols, but, you can carry turrets?

wheres my battle riffle?

i know the SMG is silenced, but, why does it have no recoil for 2-3 seconds when it suddenly jumps off target?

clearing boxes taller than you in a single bound! (with duck jumping!)

i know most of these minor, but, they annoy me all the same.

I can handle no dual wielding pistols, ODST are not Spartans but I wonder if Marines could handle turrets .

. . . and move just as fast as they do when they are just carrying nothing. Even the Spartans slow down when they carry a turret or missle pod.

THats the only real hic-up that made me scratch my head.

Aside from that I'm still pleased with ODST. I haven't played through the whole game yet. (just finished Micky's mini story) BUt I'm sure that if I had more than an hour or so most evenings to play I could have beaten it by now.

So who did you choose as your firefight charactor?

I took Buck with his helmet on. I like the over all appearance of him and that he isn't hoofing a pack around. Maybe later I might change to Romeo (once I unlock him).

That was one of the first things that made me scratch my head about ODST. The rookie is not supposed to be as strong yet he walks faster than Master chief with the turrets. :dunce:
And yes if you had about 3-4 hours you would have already been finished with the campaign. Its that short.

unlocked Romeo tonight after getting a little turned around in the city. And running into a couple baddies.

I might switch over to him later on for fun. But for now I'm still going to stay with Buck.
