@photonrider,
Interesting you should mention Double Bass. I actually started out on upright bass back in the day. That "MWAAAAH" you get on a fretless is so warm and familiar sounding to me. It's nice to have that sound without the 7 foot tall instrument to pack around.
Not sure what I like better, the bass or the bed spread! đź‘Ť
Sound clips? It's "freakin' sweet" as the man himself would say!
The bass is a Hohner Jack series, it plays very nicely although I need to restring it.
I think someone stole your headstock.
Sound clips?
THIS IS THE COOLEST ****ING THING I'VE EVER SEEN.
I NEED ONE, LIKE YESTERDAY

Your collection ain't too bad yourself. 👍Since it’s a very slow day here at work, I was doing some random surfing on GTP and I stumbed upon this thread. Great to see so many beautiful instruments here 👍 Pako’s collection has me drooling all over my keyboard
Here are some pics of my own humble collection of basses:
1. My trusty old Bass Collection SB325
2. Washburn AB45 (still with the original strings on it, I’ve got tapewounds on there now )
3. My Stingray 5 20th ann Ltd edition (my pride and joy )
That's great. The low b can always make for a great thumb rest.I'm like it very much It took a bit of getting used to in the beginning with the bigger body and no place to rest your thumb. But once you're used to that, it plays very nice. The neck is pretty narrow and nice to the touch so it plays very easy and quickly.
It has a powerfull pre-amp so it's got power and volume comin' out the wazzoo Everything comes out very clean and crisp. Before I got this I only had the Bass Collection. Since the high notes on that one didn't relly cut through, I was used to playing a lot of low stuff and nothing in the high regions. That's why I got the 5-string modell of the Washburn. It was a bit of revellation when I first played it, the highs did cut through on this one, and then some So the AB45 actually thought me to play the higher notes more often. It really changed my playing style for the better.
So, if I had known it, I would've probably gotten the 4 string modell, not the 5 as I rarely touch the B on it anymore these days. Maybe I'll take it off and put on a high C
Very nice family picture you have there. I would love to try and lay down some bass tracks if you have anything recorded that you would like to share. Could be fun. I love blues/jazz, etc.View attachment 93943 just found out about this thread, so i wanted to share my guitars with you guys. Ive been playing for almost 20 years now. I play Jazz, jazz-blues, slowblues, funk soul and everything in between, exept for metal and the harder styles of rock. I have my own little recording studio in my attic. Did alot of jamsessions, and just quited my band 2 years ago. Im in one the worst times of my life at the moment, so when everything is positive again i will definitly start looking for another band. This is an old pic of my guitars!
@Pako Thanx for the reply!
Idd, its like a little family of guitars that i collected in the years i been playing.
At the moment im in a divorce and have to sell my house(and prepare my house for sale)
She is/was not into music (what was i thinking ) so you could easily guess what the problems are lol.
(why am i telling this on the www?)
But anyway, i dont have that much jazzblues recordings, but i could record something for you if you like?
I usally use Ableton live 9 with reason as a rewire host, i dont no what software you are using but i could also record something on the fly with my looperpedal than export it to you if you wish. Chords+solo and than you could fill in the bass?
Or maybe we could do a gtplanet collaberation of some kind lol
what do you have in mind?
Some vids of my old band and some vids of jamsessions that where luckily recorderd on film.

P.s nice bass you got there, is that a flametop, can not see it very clear on my laptop!
cheers!
So sorry to hear that. I've been through it and it sucks. I was in a blues/rock band for about 12 years. One year we did over a 100 shows. Lots of festivals, private and bar/pub gigs. If your significant other isn't 100% supportive, it is very tough. My wife is 100% supportive to the music, but only about 10% supportive to the gigs. I haven't been in a band for about 2 years now. I do miss it, but with a 4 and a 9 year old at home, it's ok. I need to be around for the kids as they are growing so fast. I'll get back into it soon enough.
In the mean time, lets get some recording done! I really dig the grooves I heard on the youtube channel. That's exactly where my heart is. If you want, lay down a rhythm and lead and share a wav or even a mp3 with me. I'll lay down a bass track and share just the bass track with you so can import and mix into your program. I used to be a Protools guy when I had my project studio up and running, but now I'm on PC again running Qubase 5 through my Focusrite Saffire box.
Maybe start a new thread that we could use to collaborate, find a drummer, maybe a nice B3. As long as it grooves, I'm down for what ever!
My basses..... I used to have a herd of 'em but have thinned it down to just two custom made basses now. They are both hand made basses from Pete Skjold at www.skjolddesign.com
My fretted is a Jazz configuration, custom pickups and preamp, maple burl top and custom inlays. My second is a fretless bass, again, totally custom with a beautiful piece of flamed Koa for the top.
For now, I have every kind of tone I could imagine with these two basses and the best part is they are both under 8 lbs. I will probably end up with a couple Fenders again just to have them around. It nice to have a beater bass if I do go to a jam or if I start gigging again, I will have to think twice about taking my customs.
Thanks for the kind words!
As you been through this, i dont have to tell you how these things makes you feel every now and then.
At one point i didnt even bother to write any songs or play my guitar at all, which was a very akward feeling as i have never ever experienced this feeling before.
I mean, your a musician in your guts, its who you are, normaly when i come home from work i just have to play a thing or 2 just to relax a little and go on with the usual stuff.
Well, i can tell you, you are very lucky man that your wife is so supportive, she probably understands that thats just who you are!
I know how you must be feeling about not being in a band for almost 2 years, but hey, with 2 youngsters there are important things in life right?
As for recording things, i really like the idea!
We should definitly start a new thread and see if there are any musicians that want to collaborate.
Bass-Drums-guitars- but a B3 would make it so very nice!
If i wasnt a 6string slinger, i would definitly be one hundred % a hammond organist!!!
On the other hand, sometimes i think that b3 players are seriously not from this world at all, i mean how come that these players can actually instruct there left foot to lay down a bassline, while the right foot is using the swell pedal, then comp some nice chords with there left hand, and if thats not enough, play one hell of a solo using there right hand! Thats so impossible to me, but hey thats why i play the guitar
Anyway, i will try sending you some stuff this weekend and we can go from there?
One of the things i really dig at the moment is a medium jazzblues with some diminished chords, 2-fives and ofcourse the 1-6-2-5 as the turnaround.
But ofcourse we could do all kind of things, let see what happens!
To bad mister mcgriff is not amongst us anymore, one of the songs that keep me going at the moment.
@ 3:42 he starts his solo and @ 4:55 he is hitting that one high note that is just killing me!
Jimmy mcgriff on the hammond, with Jerry Weldon on tenorsax, Wayne Boyd on Guitar and Don Williams on Drums
Absolutely.Ok man, ive been scrolling through the original collaboration thread, a lot of people where very interested and the last post is from may.
I really want to do this and if we have something layed down (chords and bass to begin with) then other people should have no exuses to collaborate and can easily hear what the deal is.
So first things first.
Start a new thread or continue in the old one?
Second, because music can be so broad and general and everyone is doing there own thing, i think we have to do this not to difficult.
So what genre are we gonna pull of?
I got some ideas that im gonna record on my looper, then sending them to you.
If we then agree that the idea is something we can work on we can go from there!
Lets make this happen!
i've not got any pictures on hand currently but i'll upload in the future
whilst im not running a massively expensive rig on either instrument it suits my needs and still copes fairly well in the couple of times they have been gigged.
Guitar-
Ibanez GRG (cheap ÂŁ150 ibanez love it to death and got me right into playing guitar recently)
Peavey Vyper 75
Bass-
Fender MiM P-bass (cherry red modded with Seymour Duncan QP's)
2x Peavey Millenium BXP 5's (one's bout to be modded with new 5 string Jazz SD pups when i can afford it strangely nice little bass's for the money in my opinion just the stock pups are a tad weak for me)
Epiphone Thunderbird
Ampeg PF500 w PF2x12cab
and my trusty ODB3 and SansAmp the best tool any bass player can have in my opinion.
i'll get em up tomorrow morning, need to look through facebook and im just bout to go for a snooze i'll get them tomorrow when i get a chanceIn true GTP fashion, pics or didn't happen.
