Can Ukuleles count as a guitar? ;)

Course! :)

In other news, I went out to by some plectra today and fell in love with this, so it came home with me. Quite a quiet ride back with Mrs. Ten (she's a proper double-bassister and doesn't believe in this witchcraft).

I will have to come back to this thread as most of my guitars are in pieces (sending to a luthier for modifications).

I have:

Squier J-Bass
Squier Strat
Fender Mexican Blacktop (HH)
Epiphone Les Paul Custom
Schecter PT Diamond Series Tele

Thank you
Yeah airbrushed and carved them last year, I don't play the guitar myself so I recently donated them to a local charity 👍

The carving looks good, have you tried fingerboard inlays?

A friend was selling a guitar for £85, I thought I could do with an old banger to keep in the car (fnaar), seemed like a good deal.

What a deal... Harley solid-top acoustic! It's on the right in the trio pic... and then for £12 I electrified it... then added Elixirs... so for under £115 have a reet'un that can go places that my good six-string isn't allowed to :D

I recently bought an acoustic bass as well! I wanted to try one out after playing my Squier J for a year, and ended up leaving the shop with it. Not got a picture of mine but it's one of these...

So tempted to buy an acoustic bass, I'd never use it with the band, I just fancy one.

Although I won't use it in my band, I though it would be great practising, and sounds really good for solo arrangements. For the price of the Fender, you can't really go wrong.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post :banghead:

I'll more than likely get one in the near future, I think we are going to do a couple acoustic versions of our songs.

Although something a bit different has caught my eye on eBay today and I'm really tempted to make an offer. I'll stick a picture of it on here if anything materialises!

Good luck with the eBay find! Before getting the acoustic, I nearly bought a 1984 Japanese built P Bass however someone beat me to it.

Nope it's the Jazz. As soon as I have access to my money (the bank has frozen my account because I used my card in America without telling them. Yes I'm a complete idiot) I'm going to make an offer

Ok forget that I've just made an offer ahaha

Sorry for the double post but guess who's offer just got accepted for this! (I have no idea if it's worth what I've paid for it but I'll worry about that later)

As far as I'm aware it's original. The pickups are the same as my Jazz Special and were fitted to the majority of the slightly different Japanese Fenders so I'm confident that they're original to the bass too and yeah they are really powerful!

It'll be getting a new, better quality bridge put on it as soon as it arrives along with strap locks so I won't be too upset if it isn't totally original though.

Sounds good!

I've never modified mine because I've never had the need, but I'm always interested in other peoples work. What bridge will you be fitting?

I'll be fitting a Babicz Full Contact Hardware bridge. Here's a pic of my other Jazz Bass with one on. It's pretty much one big solid chunk of metal. So much better (imo) than stock fender bridges.

Excuse the poor picture, the best I can do right now is crop a picture i took of the bass a few months back.

A real, chunky piece of metal, rather than a small bent piece on a standard fender. I'm also enjoying those Seymour Duncan's!

Yeah they're not lying by calling it "full contact" Haha! No matter what bass I play it doesn't sound as good as that jazz bass! Although I have spent a fair amount of money getting it like that...

What did that bass start as? Is it worth modifying a relatively expensive bass, or is it better to start with something cheaper e.g Squier vs Fender?

Started off as a completely standard Mexican jazz bass. I've swapped all the chrome hardware out to black and the pickups are Seymour Duncan quarter pounders.

To answer your question it all depends on what you can afford really! The only reason I did it is because I'm not a fan of chrome haha

If I was buying a bass to keep stock, I would obviously just buy the best I could afford, for me, at that time. However I just wondered if it really mattered when modifying them, so thanks for answering 👍

Looking great! I think it'll look even better with the new bridge. How do you find the control knobs in that position, because I sometimes hit them when playing chordal stuff on my standard Jazz bass, so wondered how they are further forward?

@cgg they're in exactly the same place as a regular Jazz Bass. Probably just look further forward because there's no scratch/control plate. I have the same issue as you though, I play with a pick and often knock the neck volume control when playing!
