Head2Head Competition wk59 - Closed

thanks 👍, but I wouldn't count on it. As it has been discussed before, my pics usually generate great interest in the posting phase, but fizzle out in the voting stage.

Lets hope this is different of course.

Nice shots to all of you guys.. Skyline49, you did a great job with that picture, looks cartoony and I like it 👍 And 80Y 2C2's shot's really good, thanks to the nice car, the atmosphere and the lighting :)

thanks! NTX and Moglet also have great shots for dodge - but I think that Bram has it wrapped up for Ruf and maybe even the overall comp.

i hate how all the good shots are the ones that have been shot to death, i mean they're all starting to look the same (zoom blurred shots and what not). i mean it's good, just too redundant if you all know what i mean. just my observation.

If you don't like it, start real photography ;) This is GT4, it's limiting. I can't be bothered to change my personal style just because someone thinks it's too redundant, my style is my own :)

Agree, I state in almost every competition that the pictures are all the same. The Charger picture, though, was actually pretty good.
Besides, the interest seems to be focused in Photoshop right now. A good picture without effects will likely lose against a bad picture with tons of effects. :grumpy:

Same opinion here 👍

Same opinion here 👍

and here.

BTW, this is not aimed at you Bram, just incase you got the wrong idea! There have been lots of photos appearing lately from plenty of different members that are, at a basic level, very poor photographs. Poor lighting, poor composition etc. but the Photoshop work looks so fancy that people go "oooh, shiny" and vote for it anyway.

:yuck: You're right about that.. It seems like there're people who don't look at the overall picture, but on the "photoshop stuff" someone did.. It's not that I don't like the adjustments someone does in Photoshop, but I can't stand seeing that some people are only voting for pictures that show the most adjustments done in Photoshop :indiff: ..

here is my

Final Entry

the natural stance for an orange charger

Just give him first place already, that is amazing. Now can someone help me pick my jaw up off the floor?

the natural stance for an orange charger

Can't believe I missed this shot  Would have been even better if the ground were in focus as it would have been in real life, but it still looks stunning.
Might have to rethink my entry now...

Awesome shot Skyline and 80Y 👍
Skyline's entry seems to be the Blackbird from Wangan Midnight

I don't know how I missed that shot either! That is fabulous! Simple, yet effective and powerful. I agree that the ground should be in better focus...but still...👍

You'll be disappointed, it hasn't been cleaned. I had 40 minutes to do it and I'm on my phone again, away from a computer.
I think the noise gives it a very rough (ruf:lol:) feel to it. It has a lot of attitude imo.

I agree with mog, codename, and co.

I myself have lately gone back to photography instead of attempting photoshop (which i fail at anyway). because I too am tired of zillion particle zoom blurs at low angles. However, the fact of the matter is that in these comps, zillion particle blurs work, and win.

Everyone is blowing this out of proportions. It's not the blur that gives you the wins, it's the image in its whole and the time you spend on it. I spent a whole day on my entry, so you cannot expect me to smile when you go "That's the same as you did yesterday as you did today as you did last week as you will do tomorrow"... Seriously, if you don't want me to take it into Photoshop, what the heck do you want me do to with it? Members like Tangled Web do some crazy and lovely stuff to colours and tones in an image, I can't see how someone can criticize for producing something like that. Also, as long as you're editing according to your own style, where's the problem? I honestly can't see the fun in editing in a way you do not like, I don't think the point of this GTP section is during something against your will...

Week 58 had a heavy discussion, now week 59 is having some members heavily criticizing others for using their own style, if week 60 is going to be the same, I can't be bothered looking forward putting my time in such an awesome competition (or this it should be) if everyone's merely posting to criticize...

Bram, nobody is criticising your work. If anything, we're criticising the people who continue to only vote for heavily blurred images with fancy effects!

Your photos don't fall into the category we're talking about as they are always well composed, well lit, and well matched to the theme too. Even without any blurs or special effects they would be brilliant photos. A lot of the complaints are coming from members who are getting bored of seeing mediocre shots taken without any thought just to add an effect to.

Look at it this way; if you could strip down a photo of all of the effects, how would it look? Pretty much all of yours would still be amazing photos. This is not the type of thing people are complaining about. If anything, my old photos fell into this problem category which is why lately I've tried to change my style a bit.

Exactly 👍 Bad photos get the chance to win with a huge amount of Photoshop, which is not fair by any means, since everyone knows that Photoshop can do a huge difference on today's actresses and such (what...?).

Sorry about the rant there Moglet, I just felt that even of you weren't pointing at me, others were ;)

As for my stock photos, I don't see what there's so amazing to be found at too dark images, flat un-textured road surfaces, and edgy cars  I always try to imagine what I want the shot to be, and I snap it in GT4 like I had it in my head. Sometimes it works perfectly, but most of the time I try to look how it will turn out when I'm looking at it. When I was looking at the RUF at that angle in GT4, I thought "That's it!" and it turned out exactly like I pictured it 👍

I've never found anything wrong with your works. In fact, in all those years that you've been around here, you have been both a source to get inspired from, a source I desperately use as a chasing path to hone my skills, and a fierce opponent from which I rarely win (I can't remember the last time we met head-to-head where I ran away with a win :dunce:). That's why I'm always scared when you enter, there's something about your work that make me fear them more than others.

But we cannot be too hard for the newer members around here either. Let's face it, many amongst us have been through trial by fire, what works out one day, doesn't the next. I remember my 440_Charger inspired shots that everybody was getting tired of, but I didn't care, because I knew it made me better. After three years of photomode I finally thought I had found my style, the 440_Charger style, but I didn't. That was probably why I never was able to match him. I didn't find my style until for a few weeks ago when I entered that Clio shot at Laguna Seca. It's since then that I've really been able to appreciate my own work :)👍

That is the same process I go through too man.:sly:
Way to stick up for yourself and your style. (even though you aren't being criticized:)) I know you feel you are.
There are a lot of shots lately that I have seen that have awful blurs that don't match the shot at all, and that have way to much contrast to compensate for it. Not that those got too many votes in the polls, but still.

Hey Swiss, damm lovely capture!!! The reflections are quite something, they even "bling"👍

Man...I love the H2H competition:D

In the lower back on the bumper!! You see...IT BLINGS...IT SHINES

Once more, good job bro :)

There is only so much you can do with this game...
almost done with my shot...

not really. it sucks you say that coz i'm talking about the angles and how most shots are starting to look the same. it's like the compositions are being composed to be able to apply a zoom blur or something like that.

and bram : i already have long time ago and have been doing it for work on a part time basis actually. and i'm not asking you to change your style either. what i'm trying to point out is that people are getting too reliant on it, if you look at most of the compositions here, most of them were geared towards the zoom blur application now (it's just what i've noticed lately) and to be honest, i can see it as turning into a total fest for plagiarism. if you look at that orange car flying off the ground, or swiss' entry, it explains that there's always more to photomode than what can be done, and i dont think it's ever gonna be limiting, specially with the aid of photoshop or other editting programs. i just hope people would put more focus on other ideas and put the photoshop side into application to make it better, instead of seeing those zoom or motion blur all the time, and just forgetting about the rest of the frame. i'm seeing some blurred photos that look good in small, but once you enlarge it the car or the subject is left in the cobbles. i'm not gonna mention names here, and it's sure as hell you're not of them (lke i had to say that), but what i'm asking for is more originality with the entries and the editting involved.

as for your own style, well, what's yours is yours and i'm not gonna take that away. it's up to you to stick with what you know. same with me, and same with everyonelse. it's a shame you say photomode is limiting, even though your ps skills are quite decent. they made the camera pan around for a reason and the shutter speeds adjustable. so i dont see how that's very limiting in terms of composition. tsk tsk tsk

thanks guys:tup:...I applied the blur because (as stated with another entry somewhere) the texure didn't come up too great, so I utilised what little skills I had to try and fix it with some blur. Yeah, I doesn't look all that great, but I experimented and nothing else worked - but you could take the view that it isolates the car from the surroundings....maybe

Adrian, I perhaps should've further explained that. I do think it is limiting. Not photomode. But the game itself and its crappy textures. If people don't know the ins and outs of photomode, it limits them to rely on ps as a crutch and try to pull of things they can't. (Though I do admire the attempts)
I am not trying to be all high and mighty in this post, as I think I have much to learn, and I am certainly not criticizing personal styles or skills.

fair enough swiss. and im not mad or anything, just making an observation. the good thing is seeing newer members learn the ropes.

Not sure about this shot, oh well. Love your shot Swiss, Bram too and Mog. Lots of great shots. :)

My jaw just dropped. No, not the expression, but literally physically. It isn't often that I am amazed anymore at GT4 photos (having seen so many of them), but that one is truly special. Props Tangled Web. 👍
