Head2Head Competition wk60 - Closed

They are both a wet fish to the face,

I've never heard that before :D

Thanks for the comment 👍 Personally I think Moglet's entry is miles ahead of mine. I see some errors which I could fix, and Moglet has far more reflections. I might try and give the car more depth with some dodging at some places to make it look better, we'll see how that works out 👍

HAHA I can see how that'd be confusing then. The original saying is "to be hit in the face with a wet fish" - or to be stunned, shocked and awed.👍

I just can't get my head around a partially motion blured cloud (well at least I think it is) in Moglet's

When you're travelling along at 70mph in a car and you look out of the window, does the sky blur the same as the roadside does?

But if you are standing next to road, panning your camera fast enough to keep the sports car focused that is speeding past you, would the clouds be blurred then? Personally I don't car either way, your shot is totally awesome and that's what matters. 👍

Sometimes I just wonder what you'd have to do to take some of our photomode shots in real life. In this case you would need to have a camera on a second car driving next to the elise, right? Don't know if it would be possible even then, and there are many shots on this board that would have been plain impossible in real life. So I don't think it matters much if clouds are blurred or not. It's for impression, not realism.

EDIT: I'm working on an elise shot too. Not much point to do it after seeing Moglet's shot, but anyway. I hope there's some time left.

Any of the highly blurred images found in the 2.0 contests where the blur heads towards a vanishing point would have to be taken with a camera rig as opposed to panning. To pan a shot like mine you'd have to be able to run backwards at the same speed as the car (while keeping the camera steady) and so that's just not going to happen. My shot would definitely be possible in real life using a rig,(as used to gain the shot below) except attached to the front of the car on a long pole.

Notice the distant trees and horizon. They are not blurred as they are not moving enough in relation to the car. I prefer to go more for realism when it comes to moving scenery, simply for my own pleasure. But you get criticism about it from either side, some say it looks odd when it's not blurred, others then complain it's not realistic enough when it is blurred. You simply can't win!

That's an interesting shot Moglet, pretty much clears the issue here. 👍 Of course in this case the rig is in the car whereas in many of our photos the "camera" is clearly outside the vehicle with no rig visible so I guess there would have to be another car for the camera.

Anyway here is my entry:

Thanks 80Y 2C2. I said that because Bram and Mog already owned the Lotus side.:nervous:

David David David...kudos man. I think the road could've used some texture via noise...but overall, pretty good. Did you get PS yet? Or still using gimp.

I added a lot of noise before the blur, but apparently not enough. I'm still using Gimp 2.4. I'm very familiar with it, but I don't like it because there are some rough spots on the road, like right behind the Elise, that could have been avoided if I had PS.:/

People use massive rigs for real shots similar to mine and then Photoshop them out 👍

No it doesn't.....and that's not what I'm getting at. What I'm getting at is (it appears that) there was a section of cloud behind the fence that was in the motion blurred section - thus, a section of the cloud IS blurred. It's just something I look out for if I try to do a motion blur shoot.

Think nothing of it - probably me just having a rant (in some aspects)👍

What a great week this has been. Discussions, rants, and great entries. Aaah, the epic Photomode club

SVX: i can't either. it loaded for 20mins, and all i got was the top 5th. I'm assuming by the preview that it's alright, however.

Bram: indeed.

Are you talking about mine SVX? It is loading fine for me. :dunce:

Sure is epic Bram, the entries from everyone seem to be getting way better lately too. 👍

Ah, that's a Bridgestone advertisement box that is sitting just behind the fence. You can see it on the unedited section that I posted earlier on.

yeah, the big blob is the sign, I worked that one out first - but there's cloud too (look near the end edge of the blurred grandstand roof) - it's a small nigglingly little fault, but they have to be observed when comparing two of the greats at their optimum best. Anyway, as I have found out the hard way, nothing is set in concrete untill I actually vote - and I am a spontaneous bloke who's likely to change his mind, so you still have as much chance as any with me 👍

I can't see Tangled Web's shot either.. It's only loading the top of the shot..

EDIT: Now I can see it, just after I posted this.. Awesome entry, man.. Like how the car looks faster with the blur around, whereas the car's very clean and shiny 👍

 at your damn good shot, speedemon08.. I love these nice reflections on the car and the fact that everything's so clean and shiny.. The saturation is awesome and the blurred background gives the whole thing the final touch.. Well done!

Great image Jamie, but just to make things clear; You don't get to enter your own theme since you won last week ;)

Not to contradict your decision in any way, since you are this competition host, but since there is no top 10 and whatsoever, why can’t the theme chooser enter the competition?

Although it has never been written down, it has been amongst one of those things people never did in the old days. This way, we avoid the same member from winning week after week. Impossible you might say, but the chance is there, and I want to avoid this. I might add it in the rules list. People never did it, but lately people start to do it, and there was never brought up anything against it, which frustrated me. I was not allowed to enter the H2H week 49 either after I won week 47 ;)

*Rule added*
