I saw an ad for this last night and thought that it looked interesting.

http://www.nbc.com/NBC_First_Look/Heroes/

Some people are born to be extraordinary.

They thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible abilities. In Japan, a lowly office worker can teleport at will. In New York, a struggling artist can paint the future. In Los Angeles, a discontented beat cop can hear the thoughts of others. Elsewhere, a high school cheerleader discovers she is unbreakable and a single mom realizes she has a powerful alter ego. Heroes chronicles the lives of these people and the lives of others like them – whose destiny just might be saving humankind.

Anyone else heard of this? What do you think?

The link has a trailer you can watch.

So far it seems to be the only new show that interests me. Everything else seems like another cop show of some form.

Sounds like a 4400 rip off to me, and by the look of that cast its guna be a poor rip off at that. Personally I will stick with 4400, but if I get the chance to watch and episode, then I may give it a go.

I don't watch new TV shows. So, let me know how it goes :)

Pardon my ignorance, I rarely watch 4400 because it doesn't ever seem to be on when I am free. Isn't that about people who were abducted by aliens, or at least disappeared, and came back with powers?

This appears to be more of TV show rip off of all the mutant superhero comics, like X-Men. Mutant superhero being the concept that grabbed my attention.

How do you know what to watch then and if you yourself will ever like it?

Because 99% of TV today is complete junk. The last decent show that I remember is Smallville and that's turning into junk now. So I just abandoned all of it and watch my Cosby DVD's when I need TV show fix. :)

LMAO, swift.

Expect the comic relief to be the one who can change the sizes of things at will. I think the "ability the paint the future" has to be the most retarded superpower ever.

Having direct visions into the future? If you know the future, technically, you can't loose.

Yeah. You can't lose, but you sure can laugh your ass off and then start crying when you've just painted, "Superhero being eaten alive by monster because his lameass psychic-paintbrush can't do anything to save him."

Well they were actually abducted by Humans from the future, and sent back with abilitys that all humans can get, if only with a little modification in the brain department.

But yes you are correct about it not been the exact same, but the people with the abilities aka seeing the future and other are all in the 4400, so unless this show turns out to be a group of super heros who fight super villans, I cant see it being much different, apart from the circumstances in which they aquire their abilities. Its also has a plot for saving mankind, just like the 4400, BTW im not totally defending the 4400 for its originality, because that would be stupid, this show rips off loads of super person stuff from the past, its just two shows that have similar things would be like watching Lost and Gilligan's Island :D, both have an island and both are cr*p.

I just cant see this show offering anything new, but like I said, if I get chance to catch a few episodes I may watch it more if its good.

I can't see what the point of the plot would be. Is this going to be a comedy or something? A serious drama? (like 24?) What the hell... How can they save the world and crap... they don't even know the others exist. It's like, the whole plot is going to end with them meeting in a big room, and then they're gonna be like, "Now what?" They can't go saving the world and starting some kind of superpower legion because that would be totally ripping off DC and every other super-powered storyline since the 50's. Mr. Paintbrush wouldn't even show up because he's already foreseen how incredibly stupid things will turn out.

Why is it that whenever I have free time all I ever see on cable is reruns of network shows? I keep seeing and hearling about thsi and a few others that I want to watch but never can catch.

so unless this show turns out to be a group of super heros who fight super villans, I cant see it being much different, apart from the circumstances in which they aquire their abilities.
I bet it goes in that direction eventually. It would kill believability if they all are good people trying to help mankind. If there is no one with a bit of anger or ill will or even a criminal disposition among them it would be hard to swallow. 4400 seems like they were chosen and Heroes appears to be natural, so Heroes would have to have someone decide to be a villain of sorts. Although the creators are saying it is about the people and coming to terms with this and less about being superheroes, which makes me wonder why the name "Heroes"?

its just two shows that have similar things would be like watching Lost and Gilligan's Island :D, both have an island and both are cr*p.
Perhaps you should visit the Lost thread and see who does all the Lost episode write-ups before making comments like that to me. :sly: To each their own. I'm sure I hate something you like.

I'm going to give it a chance as it seems to be the only new show that has any kind of interest for me. Can someone please tell Jerry Bruckheimer and Dick Wolf that we can only watch so many cop and lawyer shows? Oh, and just shoot Mark Burnett while you are at it.

I doubt NBC will let it go that far as this show is essentially replacing Surface which had that same thing happen, where the characters didn't all get together until the series had already been cancelled. Buy that point it was too late to save it. The best I can guess at is that one of the guys appears to be a geneticist who foresaw this happening and the government is chasing after them. These two things could end up running them all together.

As I said above, the creators have said it is less about them becoming superheroes and more about normal people finding out they aren't completely normal and having to cope. I imagine it being kind of the way Unbreakable was, where they are reluctant to accept it is happening and then once they accept it they aren't going out and strapping on tights but just running to help people the way anyone would, only with a certain advantage that others don't have.

I would love a comedy in the style of Mystery Men though. That would be completely awesome.

At the risk of sounding stupid, I'm not even sure I know what naf stuff is.

But knowing I liked Lost could explain why I have an interest in this show, especially since Michael Ausiello (sp) at TVGuide.com called it the next Lost. Pretty much any new show that doesn't involve cops, lawyers, or "reality" TV will get a watch from me.

While I can defend being a Lost fanboy I cannot say much else as I also enjoyed Surface (cancelled in January) and Invasion (cancelled in May). My tastes may becoming compromised out of desperation for decent entertainment.

I still haven't seen the full line-up for CBS or ABC so there might be a few goodies still out there to catch my attention.

Thats ok, it means rubbish or Poor. If you never ask you will never learn.

I also liked invasion, but forgot to watch it after it started to get good, this season of "The 4400" is picking up speed, with the character Isabelle begining to take controlle of her massive power and killing people. the problem with this hsow is that you have to watch it from the first season or you wont know the story and it would get confusing very quickley.
