High School

I find that a tad ridiculous. The fact that they did a phone check. Typically as long as you don't take yours out at my school your fine. Usually you get a warning and then if it's out again it gets taken.

They don't care is we have phones on us, as long as were not using it. I was caught playing Fun Run in biology, luckily it was the day before break and we were watching a movie and got a warning. Teachers can give us the option to use our phone for definitions, calculator purposes and "educational" purposes. So we are allowed to use our phones. Gahh, I can get this rap battle video off my phone, my computer won't find it.

I was in a class of 18. 11 phones were taken. Luckily, mine was in my car. When the vice-principal came in, half the class was like "OH 🤬" It was funny for me actually. I've come to expect this from my school. Last year, we were forced to wear name tags that didn't even have our pictures on them. They did a name tag check a couple of times last year. People who didn't wear them had to go sit in the auditorium for the whole day. They all missed classes for that. There were some very Very VERY angry parents after those days. The name tags were no longer required by the end of the year because basically everyone was using them to cheat on tests.

Yes, but to save money the school literally keeps the air on 78. It's basically a glorified oven.

No, oven is my junior high school, none of my schools from 1st grade to current has not had AC. Forget 78, think 95...inside, they've had to close school because of heat. Forget oven...think devil's piss hot. And my junior high building was built in the 30's and they had no concept of air flow. And because my district is so large, we're constantly having upgrades, they get air conditioning, which is never on and it gets hotter in the buildings with AC. It's hot and humid and awful.

I don't doubt that in Baltimore. Our high school was built in the 1930s too, but it has since had some renovating. The AC works ok, but it's not used because we are trying to save money to build a new middle school. It was used as a school for African Americans back during segregation... yea it's that old. All the schools here have to have AC or else it will be 85+ at night in the schools.

That's how it get's during school events and sometimes I'll walk into a classroom and it will be like the rainforest and sometimes it will be like the arctic, I have about one of those kinds of rooms a year, they are working on a renovation plan to air condition all schools, but I do think nothing in my school happens until after I graduate.

That's how it usually happens  It's extremely humid in Alabama, so 88 feels like 102 not exaggerating. It was 78, and I was sweating. This is January ffs

Same here. I would be so mad if my school had that, especially if the phone is brand new, or if you're listening to music.

Last year, we has 87 feel like 99 and actually we had an arctic blast so we had single digit temperatures with negative wind chills, so you just never know. But I do have to say that this summer, I felt hell. I was playing baseball in Delaware, I catch, it was 106 with a 111 heat index.

That's hot. I know the feeling. I've walked the golf course in triple digits many times. I felt like I was showering with clothes on

@bobert the phone check wasn't too bad because the school let everyone who's phone was taken (which was over half of the school) come back and get it after school. Still, I kind of thought it was a douche move.

Funny story about going on a field trip a couple months ago.

I leave the school with my mother to get dressed for a field trip to manhattan. Upon arriving at the school, the security guards (it's a public school, by the way) start to get suspicious. I overhear "Yeah, he's just leaning back on the window" (I was also leaning back on a window at the time). Eventually they approach me and start to ask questions, like "Why are you here for?" and "Shouldn't you be in class?" I truthfully answer and they let me off easy. Turns out, I forgot my ID in my pocket.

TL;DR: I got interrogated by police officers because I didn't have my ID.

In my school if they so much as even see the shape in your pocket, the reach in and take it. They tried that once on my and I threatened to break the teachers had and claim sexual harrassment on them if they attempted to put their hand in my pants pocket again.

As for schedules, my school as 9 periods, 42 minutes a piece and 3 minutes to change classes. That means go to your locker and sprint from one end of the school to the other, and its not exactly a short distance. Day starts at 7:55 and ands at 2:40. Oh and lunches are only 20 minutes long. So yeah, if the lunch line is long, forget about eating.

After my freshman year students are able to use phones in the halls.

We still use them in class because either:

A. We are listening to music
B. We are texting (Lol)

Math exam today.
I'm not really prepared like I should be, but I still think that I should be able to get a 90 on it.

School was delayed two hours. A storm that was "severe". April 27th was severe here in alabama. I also have a paper due in history that we were going to the library to type today.NOT ANYMORE!! Not really complaining though.

We had one too. Only the elementary schools got out. Right now, my english teacher allowed us to listen to music. :)

I'm just that small kid that gets shoved around everywhere.

I generally try to save the small ones in my year... the ones I like anyway.

No more exams till May now! :D Well apart from the French writing test I'm being forced to do to 'make up for my poor grade last year'. Brilliant so I got an F last year and I can get another F this year yay!

My Maths teacher returned today, but she hasn't marked our exams yet. We all told her we found it way too hard and that even the top set kids found it hard, but she just told us that we should've known everything on the paper. :indiff:

My French speaking exam is tomorrow. I have not prepared simply because I have no idea how to and the teacher isn't allowed to tell us how to. My exam is at 8:55am tomorrow morning, so nice and early. I'll be missing 10 minutes of English for it, which I'm not complaining about, because we're just doing poetry. I tried telling my French teacher today that I was really struggling to learn it and prepare for it, and she just told me to 'do my best'. That's all that anyone is saying to me. So, my best will be something like a G, and I won't be able to answer any of the questions because I'll sit there sweating and shaking and I'll forget everything, even phrases in English.

If the French exams are anything like my Spanish (asking and answering questions), then practice by reviewing the verbs and conjugations you have learned, that's the hardest for me is remembering all the verbs, their meaning, and their conjugations. Also go over the nouns that you think you'll need. I don't typically study, but I recently started after a string of failed or barely passed tests.

Some kid in my tech class didn't know how to use a ratchet. I'm just wondering how the hell somebody doesn't understand how a ratchet works... He also had a socket which was four sizes to big. He's in my group to... :nervous:

There are tons of kids like that in my school, afraid to use tools, completely clueless about anything real-world. I am only a freshman but feel I can vent about the fact that book-smarts only get someone so far. Eventually you will need to go out into the world...make your own money, assemble your own furniture, buy your own things. And in my school at least...mostly the preppy kids with rich families (but not all and not limited to only them) are extremely smart, but get everything they want from their parents, and will go try to get a job and be completely screwed. I've already started working (a weekend job but a job none-the-less) and have a summer job plan. Need to save money for that car, I'm not just getting one.

Our lunch is an hour...

I wish. The half hour I have at my alternate school is a blessing.

I had someone like that. I told him to leave because he kept delaying my project because he kept on bringing me the wrong tools when I asked him to fetch them for me.
