High School

I usually call all my teachers by what they want to be called. Except my band director. He's such a laid back person anything will work (bar swears of course)

I will leave this here:

I usually call all my teachers by what they want to be called.
I have the rather unfortunate trait of a rather long surname that starts with the letter G. As a result, lots of kids want to call me "Mr. G", which is the name of an insufferable teacher from the sitcom Summer Heights High.

So apparently there's been a rather serious shooting threat at my school Friday, for today. Knowing my school it very well could happen so I'm going to be on my highest guard. The school said that they're taking every precaution (shouldn't they be doing that anyway?) so hopefully there will be armed police rather than our regular "security".

No high school today or tomorrow, but Votech is in session both days. We had to work on an '02 Altima today at Votech, and to say the least, it was an absolute bitch.

I hope everything goes well/is going well for you and everyone else involved. My school has had this happen a couple times, but their "improved security" they bring in could be a lot better.

When I was a Senior, a kid got arrested for trying to start a school attack. When he was busted, the guy had already made a hit list for people who he wanted to kill. It was quite a tense week following that since the police were always there, and they had dogs present as well.

I've gotta say, since last year, there's been quite a bit of fear and negativity at my school, so I sort of feel it. Last year, there were four deaths from my school - a special education advisor, a school-favorite English teacher, an alumni from 2013, and a student from my class... Three of which were suicides. The negativity spread and really hit hard, and many worried that more would act erratically (if that's the right word...). And now there's been two major school shootings in the general area in the past five months... So it is a bit of a frightening time around here.

I'm sorry you have to deal with something more direct like that.

So today in chemistry, I was assigned work from the book. Pages 75 and 76, questions 14 to 163. Yes, really. Though all the questions are naming individual chemical formulas. And I only have to do either the odds or evens. And in one room during lunch, I was bored, so I decided to mess with the board. I changed Multiple Intelligence to Multiplying Integers and I filled in the calendar thing for November. For the 27th, I wrote "I Hate These Word Crimes, 27th Edition" as a joke. The only one of my edits on the board that has actually seem to stick is "Narrative Paragrams".

So my school's spirit week has been changed to only 3 days, because.. How do I put this?
The girls dress like :censored:s is the short explanation.

I can't remember if I mentioned this already or not (if I have then I'm sorry), but my English class got new seats last week. I remember mentioning a while ago that a girl in that class supposedly wants to date me. Well, you probably know where I'm going. Yep, that's right. She now sits beside me. I'm only going to say this last bit and end my post, but I'm just going to have to see what happens. :indiff:

My brother always sat next to his crush in band when I was in high school. Everyone always told him to ask her out (well, we still do now as alumni),and back in those days, it really angered the hell out of him- especially when I said it. I thought it was classic (I know, I was and still am an evil little brother for doing it ).

So now the hardware overhaul phase in complete, and now there are new desktops with LCD monitors (No more CRTs) running Windows 7 everywhere. Except for some reason, Google Chrome is apparently missing. And now YouTube is blocked. When the year started (3 weeks late, mind you) it wasn't blocked.

However, there are a lot of things missing at launch, it seems. Oddly, Google Chrome is 404, while the old system had it there. And now when you download things, they're automatically scanned for malware and such. That I can understand. I tried to install Chrome, but it requires admin privileges, which I of course lack. Previously, there was nothing stopping me from installing some random program. Sure, it would be gone upon reboot, but I could install it regardless. And the computer didn't call the installer for Chrome malware. Oh well. Hopefully they can iron things out soon enough, assuming they even plan to.

New seats in science class today. The only thing I don't like about my new seat is that its right in front of the teacher. :indiff:

On the one Votech bus, someone found a live bullet. Every Votech student got put into one of two different groups depending on which bus they were on. Those who were on the bus without the bullet, me included, could leave the room we all got called down to. Those who were on the other bus were at the risk of having bag searches if no one fessed up. Some girl fessed up to leaving the bullet on the bus, but she didn't actually do it. You could say that she saved everyone's behinds. Word of what happened spread like water down a steep hill.

I got into a little argument with one of my teachers about respect. She says that I do not respect her because she thinks I'm skipping her class when it is one of my favorites. I was just late once this week and once last week for one talking to my guidance counselor about college stuff and two finishing a project (that was due today) for a class that I need to pass to graduate. I explained that to her and she said that if I asked her she would have let me go. I knew she was lying because I asked twice to go to the bathroom, during the school year, and each time she said "no".

I don't know what you were doing in class when asking to go to the bathroom, but if the teacher was giving a lesson/lecture, then I can understand her reasoning. Most of my teachers are like that and I don't mind (But I never really need to go during school). Also, my teachers don't want you to leave the class if you're in the middle of a test.

Actually, all the old programs are there, just not in the start menu, oddly. And we're stuck with Windows 7 Basic, no way to change to Windows Aero or modify the color scheme. Also, Chrome is actually still there. And apparently everyone's network storage is shown as on the same drive, not individual symbolic drives or whatever for each student. Apparently the whole network has about 7 terabytes of storage, though I can only use a few gigabytes I think.

Also, in English literature class on Friday, we're gonna start watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail. All I can say is... okay.

Threw a little party today for one of my friends that's going to night school, schools going to be a bit more boring now without him. Other than that grades close this Friday and I can't wait. I'll be honest i haven't been on honor roll for a few years and I should have stepped up earlier. I learned today that I'm not the only one having some issues with my art teacher, she has lost a few other sketchbooks as well. At least she has been taking drawings on random paper, my latest drawing earned me my first 100 in the class, it felt good lol.

I had to give some middle schoolers a tour of the school. It was pretty sad when there were a few of them that were taller than me lol.

1) Generally speaking, you should schedule appointments to avoid clashes with classes. If it's unavoidable, let your teacher know in advance.

2) Time management is key. Missing class because you were working on a project for another class is neither an excuse nor is it acceptable.

Absolutely yes on both of your points. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't see the second point until after I after I graduated high school.
@iMikeTheKing as a student, you should know that not showing up for class does bring up educational ramifications in high school. These ramifications are heavily increased in the future (college/or the workforce if one goes that route). Letting an instructor know that you won't be present at least gives you a chance to know what was covered during the time that you was gone (for any reason). In college, the onus is on you to tell the instructor that you won't be there, and it's up to you to ask for the material that you missed. @prisonermonkeys would know that better than anyone since he is a high school teacher. His objective is to prepare you for both college and the real world.

Regarding the second point that prisonermonkeys made- you have to have absolute control of your time. In college, your classes will probably meet every other day. Since you will also have multiple courses, you have to know in advance what coursework is due at what time. Most colleges are nowhere near as forgiving as high school is when it comes to late work policies. Mark my words- you WILL have hours upon hours of homework in college. Only you will be responsible for whether or not your gets submitted on time.

No lessons or lectures. She told us in advance that we would be doing nothing that day

I try as best as I can to schedule my time. In my schedule I have no Study Hall or any class like that I only have Lunch to work on the project and that class to work on that project. I did that everyday since last week working constantly on the project.

I understand what you mean and that it is inexcusable to be late.

I showed up to class but I was late. The project that I was doing was something that I could not take home and do, I can only get it done during school hours. I can't even work on it after school so the only time I can work on it is during that class or during lunch (30 minutes).

So it looks like I'm gonna drop Physics from my schedule. I started the year 3 weeks late with my timetable having both Chemistry and Physics. Initially, it was going fine, but now I'm starting to have trouble with keeping up with the workload and understanding some of the material in physics. Although it hasn't gone into effect as of now, the plan is to drop physics and replace it with something that may not be to hard to keep up with. The problem is not that I don't like physics (I'd be okay to do it again next year, assuming I don't take chemistry again), it's just that I have a lot of work to keep up with and having two science blocks doesn't seem like such a good idea any more, and I don't want to limp through an entire year of physics. So I'll probably let it go, not necessarily because it's not my type of show, but because keeping it in this situation sounds like a bad idea. Maybe I'll try it again next year.
No, I'm not referencing Frozen. Also, this whole white text thing I've been doing is stupid.
Also, having YouTube blocked again is annoying when I want to listen to music.
