Holy crap, I'm a Dad!!! *Week 6*

My daughter has quite a bit of interest in cars, planes, boats, racing, and the Cars movies. I mean, she has her dolls and stuffed toys, but she runs around with a toy airplane and likes to see which diecast cars go the furthest when pushed on the tile floors or flip the most spectacularly. She enjoyed seeing some of the car repair shops I worked at, looking at construction sites, skyscrapers, "helping" me build stuff (she picked out a toy tool set for her birthday a few years back). And she watches football with us, too.

This all makes the wife a tad bit annoyed; I figure she'll grow out of the phase eventually, but hopefully just at the point when my son is ready to take an interest in those things...

If I have a girl that is exactly how I hope she will be! I will have her changing wheels on bikes/cars and all sorts.
One thing I remember about my dad is never being allowed to help him with anything and always feeling like he didn't want me around, thats not something I will repeat with my child

@Pupik

Awesome! I was secretly hoping she might like GT, go-karts, bikes, trains and the like when she gets a little older. I know my other half is going to encourage all the pink things but it would be amazing if she grew up to be a little bit savvy with tech and mechanics.

Only a few official days left now. No sleep last night!

The last official day is today guys 👍

We are into the land of no sleep already :)

Hospital bags are packed and waiting by the door, car seat is in and checked a million times. Nursery is very ready. I keep looking at my mobile phone every 30 seconds. There just isn't any more room in Mrs.Spun and it shows.

Not sure I have ever been this tense and anxious yet calm and collected at the same time. Weird feeling. It's like Christmas Eve x 1,000,000.

The flip side of everything is that if she's late, we might have to have an induced birth. Let's hope that doesn't end up being the case. :scared:

I will keep you posted! :D

Good luck Spunwicked! :D

Don't let the midwife's bully you either. All the decisions are you and your wife's as some hospitals can be a bit eager with inducing sometimes.

Thanks Shem & Axletramp!

Our midwife is a weird thing, no sense of humour and a bit arrogant. Mind you, of the four I have met up to yet three have been a little like that. One was an absolute star but alas, she was based at Darley Dale Birthing Centre which is a little out of our way.

Good luck spun and give my regards to mrs.spun I wish the best for you both :)

Think how you'll feel when she gets to 10 days late :ouch:

Plenty of spicy food and raspberry leaf tea are thought to bring on labour but that's mostly myth, apparently the only thing that really works is much more fun although the logistics of it at this late stage can be a bit tricky :sly:

Sorry for my absense of late all, Spun, you must be on deffcon 100,000,000!

Please do keep us posted, Mrs mad and I are thinking of the 3 of you 👍

And yes, sex is the sure fire way ;)

Week 18!

http://www.pregnancyguideonline.com/wk18.htm

My little one is getting big!! approximately 5.5inches big (The baby you pervs )
Mrs mad is starting to show now, her tummy is large and swollen, she literally just popped overnight
Unfortunately Mrs mad has lost her appetite again, but i'm sure she will regain it soon.

News this week consists of my car being written off :grumpy: Mrs mad was driving and someone went into the back of her. We only had the Rover for 1 week (the replacement for my beloved Alfa) and now its gone. On the plus side we have been given a brandnew 61 reg BMW 118d which is cool, but its still a hassle I could do without.

My thoughts this week:
Mainly growing excitement about my future child, we find out the sex 2 weeks tommorow and I can't chuffin' wait!
Yes, the fear is still there, the questions in my mind (will I be a good daddy? Can I afford this child? will he/she be healthy? ect) but I find myself changing them for positive thoughts which is cool.

We have made some purchases for the nursery, we have a Crib and baby furniture and brought a Futon to replace the double bed in the room so we have more space. As soon as we know the sex I will start decorating and getting everything built up.

Thats all for now folks!

Edit, 1600 POSTS!!!

Nice update. Really happy for you both. 👍

Good news about the Rover too. Sorry to hear about the car. :mischievous:

Surely the BMW is a better drive?

She's two days late now guys. It's driving me nuts! <brace yourself>Arrrrrgggghhhhhh!</brace yourself>

At this rate it's going to be a troublesome birth, no amount of pineapple, jalepenos, raspberry leaf tea or the other is bringing her out.

Feeling it for ya, bud.

Whenever I get bunged up, I find an evening of vindaloo and cider gets anything and everything out! :ill:

...probably quite bad advice.

Yikes! She will come soon mate, hang on in there...she will be more than worth the wait i'm sure 👍

That works for me too...but cider brings it out the top end :yuck:

That's right. They say that it's healthy for the baby and gives it a reason to get out

"Arrggghhh, what in the 🤬 is that?! I'm getting out of here!"

The wife saw that and also had a good 'laff 👍

Good Morning Guys,

Sorry I'm a bit late with this but little bump was born at 5:33am on the 27th :D

She weighed 6 12 and it was simply the most incredible experience of my life to date. Water births are the way forward.

My lovely missus managed to endure 60 hours of slow labour culminating in just over 7 hours for the final phase - I honestly can't believe she did it. I recommend being a birth partner.

So about a day and a half in and bump mainly likes to eat, sleep, burp and fart - a little bit like her dad!

Madmike, LOVE that sleep while you can. CHERISH IT. 👍

Congratulations spunwicked and Mrs spunwicked  Does mini-spunwicked have a name yet?

Slow labour is a terrible thing to endure, that happened with our first. Hope mum has recovered a bit now although don't expect a full recovery until they leave home ;)

Thank you guys!

Our little bean is called India :) She currently loves to lay on her dad's chest while we play GT5 and Skyrim until the late morning hours while Mrs. spunwicked gets much needed rest.

Amazing. Neal, hat's off to you for the fact you have two sprogs, I can't imagine doing it again right now and Mrs Spun would no doubt tell me where to go and no mistake!

Another little GTP petrolhead in the making :D

Congrats with India!!! Lovely name. And it is true. Girls can be petrolheads too. Cars ftw.

Fast labour (2 hours because of somekind of intensifying medication) and getting a 4,7 kg babygirl can be a pain too if I go by the word of my wife.

Congrats Mr. and Mrs. spunwicked :D

I've done it both ways now, slow labour the first time and sunroof the second. There's certainly no easy way to give birth

Glad you're doing your bit. And India must be rising in popularity as a name because my cousin has just named his second-born (end Oct this year) India as well :)

My wife had the sun roof option the first time around (little swine wouldn't cooperate) so we were warned that the second, if it was a natural birth, could mean a long labour.

As it turns out labour was only about 4 hours and my wife was back home with monkey #2 just 14 hours after the waters broke. I'm guessing Mrs spunwicked probably might not want to know that...

Congrats to the Spunwickeds!

Yeah, about 17 hours for Pup1k, and 90 minutes for P2pik...once Caesarian, you're out of safe options. The nice part about the second one was there was no agonizing wait, and my wife said she felt almost nothing in comparison.

(We're going to need a parenting forum here soon enough...)

Don't worry yet about your parenting skills; a lot of it comes natural if you're not a completely self-absorbed person or deaf.

While it will grow up quickly, don't worry about what kind of 16-year-old it will be, just take things one growing step at a time.

Wise words!
Thanks for the advice, what you say makes sense, I guess its just the same concerns every man has, although I am partially Deaf! (However I imagine this could be advantageous :sly:)

Is that the partial deafness that occurs between 11:00pm and 7:00am? :dopey:

Don't worry, babies are surprisingly simple (but demanding) things, especially at the beginning. You won't have a problem, we all worry too much sometimes.
