I heard it's great though I haven't tried it yet myself. It may be my only local source to actual chrome paint without spending a lot.

Apologies. I'm a few days late on the update, but I remembered this morning. Recall that update from July 14:

Yeah well here's how long it's got since then:

It's a mess in there! The random sprouts definitely need to go! Then there's this wild tree I found between tile cracks that has grown taller than I ever expected.

What should I do? Trim it? Let it continue to grow? :D

Where have you been all this time? All this time I've only waited 24 hours! :banghead:
You CAN work on paint that's only been drying for that long, but if it starts chipping you have only yourself to blame. :P

Just got some Testors Model Masters Silver Chrome Paint from eBay. I hear it's good. Anybody else use it?

I painted the exhaust on this engine with Testors Silver Chrome.

Though I painted it with an airbrush you can still get pretty nice results even with a brush.

Better than a brilliant silver, but that's probably the closest you can get to chrome without getting those specialized paints, no?

Paint doesn't chip on me. It's just that the finish hasn't (I suppose) hardened so I keep leaving fingerprints and dulling the finish. I'll have to try leaving newly painteds for a week from now on.

Are you washing the car before you start painting? Avoiding touching the car between coats?

Hmm. Well, I don't always wash the car, and I have often touched it between coats. That must be part of the problem. I think the paint is also part of the problem. I recommend that you guys never use krylon paint, because it sucks for diecast cars. I found some testors paint I my garage that might work better. I'll post some pictures when I finish some projects.

I use Krylon all the time, that's not your problem. Always wash off the car, especially after sanding and before paint. You want no dust and especially no oils from your fingers on the car. Try to get something to hold the cars by their rivet posts so you don't touch the body after washing it.

Edit: 90% done, need to finish the brake lights and might paint the end of the axle tips to make them disappear.

Okay. I'll try that, but I am still staying away from krylon because I find it has an ugly dull finish. I like testors much better. Also, you wash it with soap and water, right?

The Krylon spray you're using is acrylic paint. Testors is enamel so it's going to have a shinier finish and cure sooner. Acrylic gloss can still produce a gloss finish. Making contact with it before it has settled will still give you a dull finish, regardless of what kind of paint you use.

And yes, use soap to pick up dirt and oils.

The taillights are coming along nice, Jason. You plan on colouring the axle tip a dark colour? You can create the impression of an emblem with it.

Man that GT86 looks bausss!

Worked on a couple today. I'm still having trouble with removing axles from metal bases, but i suppose it's not too bad. On the somewaht plus side, i get some visually pleasing camber.

Nah, just flat black.

I think the stuff I found in the garage is enamel, but I bought more testors paint at the craft store that's lacquer. Does lacquer paint work for hot wheels?

There's no paint that doesn't "work". You can use artist oils if you really want. It may not turn out nice, but it's not some kind of rule you have to follow.

Lacquer's IIRC tougher than Acrylic or enamel, but there's some property of it that may make it trickier...I think. Do some research on that.

edit: yoooo from what car did you put those wheels on the G, Otaikun? Those are the wheels I could use on just about any sports car. The Kenmeri looks nice though. You didn't touch the paint, right? That beige tint in the photo looks rather pleasing to the eye. I should redo my Kenmeris one day.

Got some 1/20 scale carbon fiber decal today. Pretty small weave, looks like it'll work fine for Hot Wheels. Got it 50% off too. :D

AOS: paint wasnt touched other than the headlighs and chin spoiler, but the light in my garage is very old lol. Plus my phones grainy at best. I love the eight spokes, didnt think the chrome color would work so well.

Edit: they were meisters i took off an aoshima evo. The axels are verry narrow, the G37 is a narrow casting so they BARELY fit (the wheel and axle assembly arent free rolling like hot wheels), but even at that they dont roll at all

I don't know, I liked the Celica. I think the substitution of TRD in place of BRE was clever.
