It's the RR5SPs, man. They don't fit well with Cobras. So many times I wanted to put really real riders on one, but other than the RR10SP, there was nothing I had that looked fitting.

It doesn't have 5 spokes, it has Halibrands.

I thought you were talking about the green one.

I just googled searched for images and there's literally a handful of different appearances. Which one is the real one? The Shelby Cobra Daytona one?

Wat. What are you talking about, the Halibrand wheels?

Yes the Halibrands... They're the ones commonly used on Shelby Cobras and Daytonas, right?

I wanted to clarify because I'm finding a plethora of wheel styles when I googled its name.

And then I'm going to clarify which modded car you were speaking of. The black one, right? If so, I personally found it lacking compared to some of your much greater work.

Yeah, they do look a lot like the ones in real 427 Cobras. I think mine come from this Mustang (pic stolen from Lamley):

The thing has two big-size sets.

Yeah, flat-black one. I "report" on that one since that's our "collab" as you have called it  and you may find it lacking because you haven't had the chance to see it properly, but I really really like how it looks. I'll post it in the blog soon, it would be there already but after the convention I redetailed some stuff, so I need to take pics of it again.

Like what you did with the interior. But the tampo design is still weird to me. How in the world did you come up with that?

Ah, panel painting has a long tradition amongst drag race cars and streek freaks, from the late 60s and all trough the 70s, you could see this at your nearest dragstrip:

And of course, on the streets, where the trend caught up quickly and survived well into the 80s:

And one of my main inspirations for this car:

So much awesome in this post.

That's rather nice to look at actually. You can't see this on modern-day cars and expect the same results.

Here's a progress shot on the nail polish cars. I'm getting better at it. That Acrylic Enamel clear coat works EXCELLENT for this (see purple 458 Italia). And it's not sticky!

Ah, you've reminded me that I have a few pretty exotic blue nail colors to experiment with. The Viper and Ferrari have... "lines" all over the paintjob that make them seem like you brush-painted them. Did you brush-paint them?

You mean to tell me you no longer remember that short discussion we had about nail polish? Of course it's painted with a brush. I'm still finding ways to keep the layers thin while keeping the streaks to a low. I've also need to find a brand best suitable for my purpose.

Thanks for the compliment, ice princess.

Keep it coming AOS-! 👍

Okey I kind need ya'lls opinion on something. Ya'll probably remember this beat up GMC Motorhome I posted in the collectors thread right?

Well I don't know if I want to restore to it's original condition like this:

or do a completely different design. What do ya'll think? I can't make up my mind.

Having only just discovered these existed the other week, my choice would be for the scheme the one I saw was in:

 sorry dude, I really thought you were painting them with an airbrush.

Especially with any sort of paint with flakes like metallic or pearl. Even when it looks smooth the flakes just don't act the way they would if they were sprayed on.
Though I have seen some excellent results using brushed on enamels on modelling forums there's very few of those and you need to know exactly how diluted the paint needs to be, what brush to use and how to use it. Though those were 1/24 scale and I think you could potentially get away with it a lot easier with such a small scale.

Oooooohhhhh, I love it! :dopey: I have just about everything I need except some new wheels and another can of paint. I think might just do that one! ;) I appreciate your input! :)👍 Thanks! :)

Hello circus fiends. Here's a black Gasser I couldn't pass up at the store.

I can't add it to my collection so I made it into a custom:

Skinny wheels would've been great. I don't got any RR skinnies with that kind of wheel style however.

Dude, that thing needs front skinnies. At least detail it to the max to offset those way wrong front wheels... it looks like a raised NASCAR car

1955 Chevys have a lot of chrome. Radiators aren't flat black (well they can be, but I'd strongly suggest agains that  ). Also, their dash is metal, but their door panels and whatnot are not. Come on dude, you could even chrome the ladder bars. Give it more presence.

Anyway, I got a bottle of Tamiya Acrylic's Gun Metal and tried it on this Celica's wheels.

Looks less toyish with the chrome lip gone. Will be doing another layer to cover up some bits I left out.

Larger resolution can be found on the blog, including a 1920x1080 res for that last one.

I think I liked it more with the chromed lip. Lower it!

anyway, people, I can now show you both of the Shelby Racing Toyota 2000GT that Ahmed and I put together for the 2013 Convention's custom contest.

First, here is Ahmed's red #33 car, which won third place in the Mild class at the convention's custom contest. The post contains a lot of the car's racing story, build pics, and all the stuff we went trough to get them done in time. The link:

And a pic of the thing with it's prize:

And then we have the blue #23 car that I finished putting together. I did not win a thing at the convention because, due to me being stupid, the car didn't roll well and was an immediate DQ, so after the convention's contest I blew it appart and redid the entire chassis so it could roll freely. The car ended up winning the 60s cars-themed custom contest at the october meet of the Hot Wheels Mexico Club. The post includes several build pics so go take a peek.

Here's the link:

And a picture of the car:

In the end we're quite happy with how these came out and also with their sucess wherever they've been featured. We now need some pics of both together.

You get DQ'd if it doesn't roll? Damn they really make you work for it

I wanted to ask about the urethane clear coat. Was the one you used a product originally manufactured for cars? Did it come in a can in liquid form which you had to fill up a spray gun with? I want to know because the photo captured a CLEAN surface on the red bonnet. Was there polishing and buffing involved?

edit: your thing is on lamley's weekly post: http://lamleydlm.blogspot.ca/2013/10/as-is-custom-our-faves-for-week-ending_20.html
