Allow me to ask a question.
After I played GT1 and 2 long ago ,I decided to go for GT5 after getting my PS3 lately.
I have a Sixaxis controller...is a wheel so much more fun?,and will you go faster after some time of practising? (never had a wheel before)

And will a topsteer like the G27 or the Fanatec steers make you go faster comparing to the cheaper steers?
Thanks.

This is my opinion:

A medium fast driver with wheel won't be faster than a fast driver with a pad. But the immersion is epic with a wheel. I'm real slow with a pad and medium fast with a wheel, but I have been racing with a wheel for more than 10 years. I got me an expensive pair of pedals for my PC and I got about 5-6 seconds faster after a while on Monza. With the Pro setting in GT5 I would suspect that you will be faster with a wheel, but there will always be people that's faster with a pad. I also advice you to get some kind of stand.

The more expensive wheels will make you faster beacuse of better pedal control. The DFGT pedals aren't that good. Also you have a clutch and a gearshift together with the paddles on the wheels.

If I had the funds I would get me a G27 or a Fanatec RS with clubsport pedals and some type of stand/cockpit.
I suggest you have a look in this thread:

The different wheels won't make you drive faster thats down to your skill. The more expensive wheels give you better build quality and durability and more driving options such as a clutch. With the G27 you get a variety of shifting methods which you can play around with, making the wheel very versatile.

Maz did a very detailed and comprehensive writeup on his transition from DS3 to a wheel here.

I hope this helps.

720p 32inch sony tv(1080p was a fortune when i bought it and 1080p on a 32 is slightly redundant, however if i was buying it now id go for 1080p)
logitech dfgt(bought it a month ago, loving it on gt4)
logitech 5.1 surround

m00ndancer and SgtWhitten,
Thanks for taking the time to reply, the links are a great help^^

I think I will get a wheel....reviews of the latest Fanatec wheel are great..but it cost quite a bit more than the G27 incl the shifter..
(which start around €240 in Holland)

A DS3 controller on a 36 inch Non-HD TV for now, but I got a HD TV in the front room, but I don't have an extra HD cable for my PS3 yet!

I just have a simple Samsung 40in LCDTV with a DualShock3 controller. I've used wheels in the past and have been unimpressed. I was always able to set a quicker lap time with a controller. Especially with GT5P I changed brake/acceleration to L2/R2 respectively in order to be able to get on the throttle smoothly like with pedals. I may get a wheel in the future but it's doubtful.

i'm gonna buy a G27 wheel somewhere in december, and i'll be playing on a 40 inch samsung LED tv with matching soundbar

DFGT, handy table which seems to have been unknowingly designed for racing wheels and a 37inch HDTV. Oh and a fishing chair, again, accidentally designed for racing.

I'll be playing in my Obutto cockpit, Buttkicker cranked up, hands on the leather wheel of my Fanatec 911 Turbo S.

I'll be staring at my 110" Goo-Systems painted screen where my 1080p image will be displayed brightly.
I am officially excited.

HDTV+ controller. I can't afford a wheel, and even if I could, I'd still have to purchase a stand and petals. The amount of people who own wheels is surprising to me.

I will play on a SD TV (576i) and on the PC monitor (1080p). Yes, I'll be alternating beetween them. Oh, when I'll try this ****** wheel that I found in my wardrobe:

i was thinking about going to that new playstation lounge on Madison Avenue, in NYC this Saturday, take some videos and all. Place looks cool, well thats how maybe i'll play time it really comes out lol

46" Sony Bravia W Series TV
Sony DAV-DZ260 5-1 Surround System
Cheapy Logitech Steering Wheel , No Pedals can't use them due to limited Ankle Movement

Wheel was a "Must" after getting the dreaded PS2 Thumb , whilst playing GT4 till it felt like my thumbs where gonna fall off :dopey:

first wheel i've ever bought for a PS3 System Still learning how to use it...mostly i'm crap at the moment with it but its less painfull to a point to use :D , one thing though i've noticed is me left shoulder (which is also a bit mucked up) is starting to Ache :grumpy: So add A Big Box of Painkillers to my Intend to Play list aswell 💡

This week two new locators arrived to my house. 37" Sony LCD FullHD and Logitech GT :)
Now i'm waiting for delivery of wheelstand and i'm ready for action !

46" Samsung LED and 5.1 Marantz/Polk Audio surround sound.

All thats missing now is a G27 =[ Hopefully i'll be getting one in the near future

Seat : Playseat WRC + G25
TV : 42'' Full HD TV
PS eye : Checked
Sound : For the moment, only in stereo but a good one (NAD/KEF system)

Everything's in place, just missing the holy BlueRay now ^^

I have a nice Samsung LCD Full HD 32" Screen. It's not that big and now there are LED's and so, but I find it nice :)

Counting on that, I wanted to ask you about my dilemma this days:

GT5 will be out in 12 days. I have 480€ to spend. I have no PS3 either and I have pre-ordered Signature Edition (177 €). These are my options:

1) Buy SE + PS3, which would leave me out of money. I've found PS3 for 280€, including HDMI link and 2 controllers. Otherwise I could buy the 259 € one but it only has one controller (the other option is more worthy). If I wanted a wheel (which I want!) I should borrow my friend's Driving Force (GT3) wheel or wait until Christmas to buy my own DFGT or G27.

2) Downgrade from Signature to Collector's Edition which saves exactly 100€, and with that 100€ buy the Driving Force GT.

What would you do if you were me? You can say more options if you think about :)

And a more concrete question: Is G27 worth over DFGT? (100€ VS 280€)

I will be using my Obutto oZone with a G25 sitting right in front of my 60" Sony Bravia using a PS Eye for head tracking with a copy of GT5 CE in my PS3. With the option of possibly going 3 screen LCD (22"-24") instead.
