How is Assetto Corsa to play?
Fantastic! Is my short answer.
Now, I'm going to present a fairly balanced view here, comparing it to GT6, that you and I are both playing.
GT6 as it stands right now, and AC as it stands right now (v 0.7.5 if I remember correctly).
I'm using a T500 wheel and a TH8RS Shifter.
Bear in mind that this is not exactly a thorough review by any means, just my impression.
Car-to-road-feeling (or road feel/connectedness
):
GT6: Very good.
AC: Very good.
Force feedback:
GT6: Very good. Feel weight shift, loss of traction, bumps in the road.
AC: Same as above but feel much more as well, like downshifts and other stuff (hard to explain with my car vocabulary and knowledge
). Cars just feel a lot more alive and "real", and also each car feels very unique.
Graphics:
GT6: Looks great, but some issues like aliasing and shadow flickering that can be distracting. Fantastic lighting and contrast. Varying FPS (sometimes noticeable and distracting).
AC: Looks great. Good lighting, good details. No flicker. Completely rock solid FPS (if you have the graphics power, and I do).
Sounds:
GT6: Mostly weak.
AC: Very good, especially inside car.
With regards to car selection and tracks obviously GT6 has the upper edge. But Nordschleife is coming to AC, and I'm sure more tracks will follow. And for me most of the fun lies in how the cars handle and feel. And AC has the upper hand here, no doubt about it. Like I said in another thread; I took the Z4 GT3 out on the Nurburgring and did some hotlapping, and I have to say it was the most fun I have ever had in any racing game. I just sat there with a big
on my face.
I would strongly suggest saving up money, if possible, for a wheel. There is simply no comparison between wheel and controller. A wheel gives a whole different level of fun and immersion. And you don't need an expensive wheel either. Go for the DFGT like @
Imari suggested. You will wonder why on earth you ever played with a controller.
