How much is a fair price for new downloadable cars?

I can get on board with this. :)

Woah, what?! 10 or 20 cars for a dollar or two? That would hardly seem to make any sense. If that's all people are willing to pay then that sucks because we'll only be getting a very limited amount of DLC.
How much do you think PD should get for modeling a car?

With an estimated 5 million copies of the game out there, if only 20% of the users bought a particular car, PD would get 1 million dollars (insert Dr. Evil here) for each car model they produce.

At that rate, PD might want to make a LOT of cars.

I'd rather pick and choose my own cars to buy rather that a pack. Often times the pack will consist of one thing I want and 4 things I don't. Then I would have to buy another pack for something else that I want. Just saying, I'd still buy all the GT5 DLC though.

Price shouldn't matter, loyal fans will buy DLC no matter what. With that said, when are we gonna get some new DLC cars ;)

^^^ (no offense at posters above, just pointing out market dynamics)

I'm pretty sure PD could literally digitize scat and put it up for DLC and it would smash DLC sales records.

Well, here is the most recent example of "price-per-car" I could find:

Test Drive Unlimited 2 Add-on Content:

Audi RS 5 Coupe (£0.79/€0.99), Aston Martin V12 Vintage Carbon Black Ed. (£0.79/€0.99), Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sports (£0.79/€0.99), Catheram Superlight R500 (£0.79/€0.99), Chevrolet Camaro Synergy Spec Ed. (£0.79/€0.99), Ferrari 612 (£0.79/€0.99), Jaguar XKR Speed Pack (£0.79/€0.99), Pagani Zonda (£0.79/€0.99)

Basically, it is €1 per car. I find that extremely expensive on higher scale of quantity - 50 cars would cost like a full-game.

However, it the the industry's most-recent example (available on PSN tomorrow).

I would not pay a cent for new cars. If they offer it for free, I'll be thankful. If not, I'll play with I have. Tracks and/or expansion packs that include a large number of events might draw my attention, but I'm not feeling generous towards PD. Heck, I was content with GT5P for two years. I'm sure I can amuse myself with GT5 content for another year or two.

I would be willing to pay up $5-$10 for race packs with liveries. Cars would be specific to a race series like BTCC, Continential Tire Sports Car Series, etc. I would not care if the race packs were standard or premium. Real liveries would be great but not an absolute must. Might be too costly for them to get the licensing for real liveries and still keep the cost of the packs down. Adding tracks for the series would be cool as well.

I doubt there would ever be a pack of normal cars that I would pay for.

Unfortunately PD seem to be stuck in the early 2000's so I'm begining to doubt whether they even want my money.
Considering the current trend with DLC is to try to fleece the customers as much as possible (see the TDU example), I'm glad that PD is "stuck in the early 2000's."

Nothing. I'm not sure I'd even download free cars if they weren't especially interesting.
I haven't driven most of the prize cars in the game; they're not eligible for the events and I find one make car races kind of boring (they are good for a better color preview than GT Auto, though).

Unless a DLC came with improved AI and some new events, tracks, GT Auto tuning options / paint options (IE: Patterns, like NFSU2), I'd probably not get it :)

Free.

For those of us who bought GT5P and then GT5, it wouldn't be right for PD to charge for DLC. $90+ dollars for 2 games that are pretty much the same, I think that's enough.

I'd pay $10 for a "prototypes of the 1970s" pack:
Alfa Romeo 33 TT
Ferrari 312 PB
Matra 670
Porsche 936
Renault Alpine A442

In general I would prefer single cars though.

I am not cheap so I think that for new cars, there should be DLC in which we have to pay for. I'd pay 2.99 U.S. if it was a car I'd like to have. Now as far a upgrade from Standard to Premium, now that's a different story. I'd might pay 1.99 but I think the upgrades should be free considering that had they not spent 4 trillion hours over detailing the premiums that are in the game, they'd all been modeled to a A- or B+ status.

I think they should offer packs of 3-5 cars as DLC and not just onies twoies here or there. Whether its new cars or upgrades packs would sell better.

I wouldn't be willing to pay for standard to premium upgrades.

I would be willing to pay for new model year updates as well as Porsche and Koenigsegg, etc. $3 for a single premium car would be about the upper limit. $1-2 would be nicer.

I'd pay for the upgrade. Most of the cars I'd like to buy are available standard, but without cockpit view they're worthless to me.

I'd love to see Pikes peak back in the game, aside from that I really could care less what other tracks they decide to add if any because i personally enjoy the game. Just off the TDI Jetta in a DLC and fix the DFGT and I'll be happy.
As far as them being "lazy" I'm not going to get into that, because you are all wrong, until you all learn to make 3d models, and program(before any of you bring it up, yes i know how) then srsly stfu. Stuff happens, computers go haywire, people quit, projects forget to get saved (especially when you're modeling and programming for 12+ hours a day)
I personally don't care about the difference between standard and premium, because i'm not a hardcore gamer who "plays to win the game" I'm a gear head who enjoy the game for the driving aspect. I Play online occasionally to (though less and less because of people like you bitching about stuff all the time).

It was obvious someone would say this but DLC is here to stay and crucial to any modern game.

More than any other genre driving/sports games require DLC to stay upto date with the latest cars, stats. etc. GT5 is not a fantasy game it's simulating real driving therefore needs to offer the latest road and race models if it isn't to come across as dated.

It's ridiculous GT5 has a single premium 2010 P1 but I could excuse this if PD released fellow 2010 cars as DLC. I'm not talking about content being held back for release but PD having 6-12 months to model cars that were not ready at launch.

I don't mind if DLC trickles out or PD offers a significant update 12 months after launch, just keep fans upto date so we don't waste money on rival games.

Even at £2 per car how many could resist the E30 M3, RS500, R18, MkII Escort, Sport Quattro S1 etc. Same goes if we were offered Spa , Silverstone and Sebring for £5 apiece.

The above offerings alone would up my interest in the game tremendously.

Personally I think that DLC is one of the worst things that has happened in the video game buisiness. It's being used far too often by game makers as a way to make people pay more and more for an already expensive title.
You only have to look at a certain other rival franchise who released car packs pretty much every month for a year in effect turning their game into a monthly subscription service if you wanted to access all the content in the game.

With GT5 we already have access to over 1000 cars so it not as if we are at a loss for cars to race. Sure if PD want to create new content for their game I am very happy for them to do that. It is a great way to keep interest in the title high and keep people coming back to see what is new. But do games makers really need to charge me $5 every time they do that? Yes I know that this content is not free to make but I have already paid $60 for most games ($100 for GT5 since I got the CE). Isn't that enough? Do they need to keep coming back for more and more. Shouldn't the money I have already paid entitle me to a level of support for the coming year?

I think free DLC is a good model. It's a nice gesture to an active fan base of people that have already given you their money. It helps generate ongoing sales particularly if you made an extended car pack available at the time you dropped your game down to greatest hits pricing and it helps keep your online community active by giving them new cars to drive online. There is nothing worse than buying a 6 month old game and finding that you cant get a match online since gamers have moved on to other titles.
