How real is it?

how real do you think gran turismo is?..apart from the clutches ETC i mean teh grip and stuff like that...how realistic is it from a car?...this may be a stupid question to some of you but i jsut wondered.

if you look at the replays for GT3... you can rally get flashbacks like it happens for real... just watch some drift movies and you will probably agree...

GT3 has more realistic momentum. If you clip a wall at 40mph, you'll drop to 15. In GT2, you may still be going 35.

It took me a while to get accostomed to not being able to use super soft slicks all the time in GT3. I mean, you can if you want, you'll just have to pit every three laps. I use the hardest slicks always, and am a much better driver for it because I had to learn to drive "softer". GT2 is too grippy. After six months I'm finally able to get lap times like I did in GT2.

the accelaration of the cars is too fast for reality. the 0-100kph and o-200kph times would make a F1 car blush

I don't find it that realistic at all, it's missing quite a few of the cars systems, and in alot of cases stock performance seems too good to be true. Aswell as that the issue of Traction Control on cars that are not actually equipped......

I know this is a GT2 forum, but this thread somewhat reffers to the entire series right? ok so. For instance about the systems. One of my favorite cars in the game is the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, which in real life is a very quick stock car, which is very nimble in the corners considering it's size. In GT3 it seemed as if you had to reach down and turn the wheels by hand. The one main feature I noticed that was missing from quite a few cars was quite an important one. The All wheel steering factor. If that would have possibly added to the game I think you wouldn't have to have a 1000HP 3000GT and just tailwhip each corner, you could actually make the corners with the best of them.

And finally, the issue with the cars...They have many many realistic cars..but the majority of the LM Cars were imaginary, they were GREAT cars and I love them, but they were artificial none the less....So all in all I think this game is significantly fake in alot of ways, but it is still one of the better games out on the market.

You're joking, right? In real life that thing is overweight and will do nothing but understeer until you do major suspension surgery. So GT3 is actually more accurate than you think when it comes to that car, anyway. ;)

Cerbera, Have you gotten the pleasure of driving one with a fully functional All Wheel Steering System? Not to mention the stock 320HP it has? Yeah, it's VERY overweight, that is simply because Mitsubishi had no faith in it's extended drivetrain. Therefore they beefed the car up HEAVILY as a saftey precation. Not only that, but they built the 3000GT Spyders off of the EXACT Same frame and chassis, meaning the 3000gt coupe's had multiple unneeded chassis stiffeners to support the topless Spyder model. Overweight stock? Yeah. Nimble? Yeah. Copmpetative on the track, of course. Easy to make a street legal demon? Without a doubt. Don't forget Cerbera, the 300ZX also has All Wheel Steering, so that should handle much better than it does. As does the Skyline BNR33 and BNR34.

Nimble is relative. Compared to other cars in it's category, (cars billed as sports cars under $50k) it certainly wasn't. Nor was (is) it competitive on a track against say, an RX-7.

Most people who race 300ZXs disable the AWS, and comparing the Skyline's system to the 3000GT's is just silly. Bottom line, there are better (ie, faster in this case ;) ) cars to spend your money (real or virtual) on.

Also, another place the game misses the mark... in GT2, the WRC cars, which IRL have barely 300HP, somehow put out 450? :odd:
Well, the r/l WRC engines have air restrictors, nailing the outputs to about 300hp.

But really, who's complaining? 460hp in an Evo VI is powerful enough to beat all but an AI Escudo or Cultus.

Well, it's obvious that on the softest racing tires provided, the cars have far too much grip in every direction, except first gear in FR cars. ;)

But it'd be interesting to actually test that hypothesis. I've also wondered about the distances marked on the test course/drag strip in relation to a car's length. I'll look into this tomorrow. :)
