Yeah...because the sarcasm implied that the 8 foot sewer would take up the space for the 3" wire. duh.

OK, I'm starting to hear some talk that the failure to supply relief aid to these victims is the fault of the President. Not a chance. He didn't know it was this bad. He said so on live TV this morning. The head honcho for FEMA said the same thing. So, why didn't they get notified that things were this bad?

Blame the Governor of Mississippi and Louisiana. It it is their job to inform the Federal Government what is wrong, and what needs proper attention. But, these two states have a habit of ignoring the people of their state. Which is why so many poor and neglected people live in these states. Where were the Governors? Seriously! If a major event like this happen in California, Schwarzzeniggie would be all over it, getting aid and informing the Federal Gov. what was needed. I haven't seen the Governors for these two states once on TV. Not one, at any time during this event, during the dozen or so hours I've seen of it. I have a feeling, they wont be in office for very long.

The local police did nothing to report what was happening? Whom do they report to? Whom do they report to? Why didn't they do their job? They obviously didn't do it! People need to be fired for this huge failure. I bet nobody will, though. Nobody got fired for the entire September 11th thing, either.

As I continue to switch between Fox, MSNBC, and CNN, I see the same thing from all the on-scene reporters: Rising anger at the slow pace of relief.

Joe Scarborough of MSNBC just said that if he and his crew could drive their SUVs and vans in and out of the area, what was stopping the relief trucks? Where were they?

The reporters, who are actually there and know what the situation really is, are all really livid.

I've been watching the news fair reguraly and its appalling...just because Bush had to have his little war in iraq now our country is left without national gaurd troops for aid....I mean he can spend a Billion Dollars A DAY on his little vandetta against iraq and yet it took him 3days to write, pass and sign a bill just allowing him to give 10million to the rebuilding but wut about the current suffering i mean who cares about rebuilding a city if all its people die of starvation...i think bush just drove the last nail in his coffin...the director of homeland security says he just today "factualy" learned about the situation in the New Orleans civic center where 25,000people are still waiting for supplies because the gov't just learned they where there even though it was a designated shelter even before the storm hit. they expect over 1000 more to died by tomorrow in the civic center alone

even the mayor of New Orleans said, "the president needs to get off his ass and fix this "GD"(i think you know what I mean) problem"

Sorry in advance for any spelling/gramatic errors im typing fast becuase this makes me angry because ive been through countless hurricanes i know how the people in New Orleans feel

HIGH ON LIFE
even the mayor of New Orleans said, "the president needs to get off his ass and fix this "GD"(i think you know what I mean) problem"

Reread my post above. It isn't the fault of the President. Once he and FEMA learned of the problems, just yesterday BTW, they sent things in motion. Why didn't they do it earlier? They didn't know the problem was that severe. That is NOT the fault of the President.

I know if I was the President, I'd be overseeing this thing personally. It's not the President Bush we should be blaming though. This mayor of New Orleans, he knew the storm was coming, right? How about the Governors of Mississippi and Louisiana? Obviously, they didn't prepare for this storm, when they had early warning. I'm just making a point. Is it really the fault of these people? I don't think so. Rescues and aids were very little and slow. Whoever is cordinating the effort should be held responsible.

Don't blame the President. At least, now he knows where Louisiana is, and that it's a state. :P j/k

Yeah right. Did you hear the Mayor yelling at the gov. and pres.? He was LIVID. Cursing, shouting, etc. It's definitely not his fault, he put out the call for help from day 1, but the people with "power" are just a set of tools.

I can't believe how thick the FEMA guy was. All this stuff has been all over the news for a week, yet they just learn of the "problem" NOW? That's just ridiculous. Bush is lucky this is his 2nd term. He wouldn't have been reelected for sure.

The Mayor did his best to get things done. But, nobody from the State Government did anything or listened to him. He feels frustrated, but blames the wrong people. Bush said, as I have said, I didn't know it was this bad until the media told me it was this bad. Is that the fault of the President? No. Is that the fault of the director of FEMA? No. The majority of the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of the State Government. The Governors of these two states have a lot of explaining to do.

yes, correct.

I'm going to sleep now, though. SO tired.

That is a speach the Governor of Louisiana made on the day we all heard about the great tragic events. What is her main concern? Troops. Not medical aid, not food or water, not the rescue of dying people. She talks about buses, when these people haven't had food, water or medical care for four days. She was absolutely clueless. Why?

You know why, Solid? The underlining Democratic belief is that the National Government should do everything for them. Seems like the Democratic governor was unprepared and now her state is suffering.

It appears the Governor of Louisiana acts much like the people who live in her state.

They waited for the Government to do everything for them, and got nothing.

EDIT: That's not correct. It appears that a lot of states, and the President, offered a lot of help to her and to her state. She declined. She stated the following below which sounds a lot to me like she had things under control.

Several times, she states those who can't leave the area are to go to "city-sponsored shelters." Why? There isn't anything there for them. There's obvious proof below she didn't have things situated correctly. She thanks the President and FEMA, so she can't say they were the blame for all this, much like what Bush haters are doing now.

It's obvious she underestimated the poor people without vehicles in her state. They had no way to get out. Trains, buses, taxes and planes were all shut down a day before the storm hit. People with no vehicle should have use these methods to get out sooner. She should have realized the number of people who couldn't leave and ended up stuck without food, water and medicine would be very high.

“I want to thank the citizens of the Greater New Orleans area for the heroic, serious and courteous manner in which they have conducted themselves in the past several days.

“While no evacuation of this kind is perfect and I know that the citizens of the region are under great stress and strain, I am thankful to say that we’ve successfully evacuated hundreds of thousands of citizens in the last 24 hours.

“State officials, working with local and parish officials and officials in Mississippi, have worked hard to maintain a safe evacuation process.

“While many people are still on the roads trying to get out of the city, trafffic patterns indicate that everyone who has the ability to leave New Orleans will be able to evacuate by this evening.

“Several critical announcments must be made at this time.

1.Highway 61 will soon be closed to allow Jefferson Parish officials enough time to lay sandbags to protect the city of Kenner.

2.Also, at the State of Mississippi’s request, because of their vulnerable position on the eastern side of the storm, I-10 east bound at the Slidell I-10/I-12 interchange is closed. No traffic is being allowed to travel east on I-10 past that interchange at Slidell.

“The State Police are continuing to monitor traffic conditions. Traffic pressure on I-10 West is easing at the entry points in Orleans and Jefferson. Tropical storm winds are expected to reach the area earlier than first predicted.

“Therefore, in consultation with parish officials in Orleans and Jefferson, at this time we have stopped loading contraflow lanes. Normal traffic flow will resume.
“This does not mean that the evacuation has ended. I repeat – we are not ending evacuation. With the exception of Highway 61 and I-10 eastbound at Slidell, all evacuation routes out of the city will remain open for citizens desiring to leave this evening. Contraflow loading has ended, but evacuation has not.
“We are ending contraflow loading for the following reasons:
1.Traffic conditions are improving in the New Orleans/Jefferson region.
2.The need to give DOTD and local officials time to move cones, barrells and other equipment which might become flying missiles in high-wind conditions.
3.To respect our neighbors in Mississippi who must give their personnel adequate time to make arrangements to move their equipment along their highway system.
4.The need to give emergency personnel and relief workers more flexibility to get in and out of the city in the hours leading up to the storm’s landfall.

“To those citizens who have the ability to leave, I urge you to leave now. If you cannot leave the city, I urge you to go to one of the city-sponsored shelters in the New Orleans area."

“I am gravely concerned about reports coming in regarding those who are choosing not to evacuation. I strongly urge you to get to safety while there is still time to do so.

“I am very grateful for the way this evacuation was conducted. I recognize that it is impossible to accomplish this without some frustration. But again, I want to again thank the citizens of the New Orleans area for the outstanding way you have conducted yourselves in the past 24 hours."

“We will continue to monitor the continuing evacuation during the late afternoon and evening hours and I can assure those evacuating that we will continue to have adequate State Police and other public safety personnel on hand to maintain the best possible flow of traffic.

“I urge you to continue driving safely, protecting yourselves and your family members. I urge the citizens of Louisiana to join us in prayer so that no lives are lost because of Hurricane Katrina.

“I want to thank the following people: President Bush for his concern; Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi and his outstanding team of professionals; the many governors who have called offering help;

“The parish presidents, mayors and elected officials of southeast Louisiana who have cooperated magnificently; the emergency personnel all across the state; FEMA’s presence and support; the news media for delivering information to our people.

“This evacuation has been challenging, but even greater challenges face us in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. All Louisiana citizens stand ready to support the affected citizens of southeast Louisiana.”

Yeeach, i hope everyone here is ok. This is one of those times where i'm glad i don't live in the us. I hope everything is ok for you guys.

the way george bush and the american government have handled this disaster is disgraceful palin and simple. its no coincidence that 99% of the survivors are black, if this disaster had happened in middle america it would be a totally different story.

i will admit that natural disasters on this scale are rare, but there must of been a contingency plan in place incase such a disaster did happened. well judging by the efforst so far, it is plainly clear that the govenment was caught without a plan, and with its pants down. thousands of americans had laready lost their lives needlesly because of of the governments incompetance.
how anyone can defend george bush when you see the reactions of the people in new orleans is beyond me. ive always said that he was an idiot, and as usual, george bush hasnt disappointed me. the desperate scenes i have seen on tv should shame every american that sees them.

george bush has often bandied the words 'regime change', well its time his incompetent regime was changed. hes a pathetic leader, and inspires little confidence in his own people. proof of this is with his popularity, which is already at an all time low. a nation as great as america, needs a true leader, not an idiot in charge.

The people had early warning they were told to evacuate just like any other coastal area the people are stubborn and think they can make it through.....though almost everyone that could evacuate did except for the poor people and those who didnt want to or didnt have the means of transportation to evacuate. they said i think about 150,000 people were left in new orleans who didnt evacuate so the blame can rest anywhere, gov't for not realizing the problem, the people for not evacuating, poor response......its just a bad combination of everything

THEY AREN'T HURTING BLACK PEOPLE!!!! Jesus Christ, I hate it when you have black people that think as soon as something happenes its automatically a white peoples fault. That time is over, get over it.

No body knew the severity of the situation. And if you are going to blame anyone blame the people who were in power in NO many years ago. They knew that the levies could not take a catagory 5 hurricane. Did they do anything to help it? Nope not at all. It's not the presidents fault that the engineers can't engineer things.

You're an ignorant, oblivious douchebag, my friend. You must be a Kanye fanboy. That fool.

The Governor is funny. She says her main focus is on troops and Ground transportation. What a fool. What good is transportation when all the people you're transporting wind up dead?

I still find it hard not to blame Bush, especially after watching his demeaner and what not speeches. But yeah, there's a lot of reasons it went bad fast.

BTW, Please tell me you didn't vote for the guy as well as swartzinmyass. :grumpy:

You're an ignorant, oblivious douchebag, my friend. You must be a Kanye fanboy. That fool.

I saw something on the news with him (I guess a fundraiser?) with him and another guy talking. I didn't even realize it was him. I seriously thought it was an evacuee from a mental institution from NO. I guess he really did drop out of high school. :ill:  (Note: I swear to god it's not a racist thing)

Speaking of that, I didn't even know that there was untill I saw a news report where a reporter was talking to the mayor. That made this whole event that much more sadening to me. I didn't see black people, I just saw millions in deep desperation for any kind of help. I can in no way imagine what it's like for them. It's so damn hard for me to sleep and I feel guilty for all the comforts I have that they don't.

I'm gonna stop now... :(

its like watching that movie escape from new york, or LA, they're both the same movie just with different titles. You know im surprised some journalist hasnt come out with a head line that says "BAM!"

VIPFREAK
No I was thinking more like A Day after Tomorrow... :scared: :(

im said escape from new york because of the aftermath. Ive heard that about 20% of the police force has just thrown down thier badges. They have prisoners out on the streets because there's no prison to hold them. Some of the prisoners have taken people hostage and are even raping women. There have been orders for the national guard to shoot anyone cought commiting a crime. Its out of control.

Of course most of them are black. However, "race" is totally irrelevent. Everyone is human, born with the same potential.

You never posed a question. you just made a ridiculous remark, saying that "middle america" would've been saved had they been in the same situation.

I see Humans in trouble. It's not acceptable...that's obvious.

You see black people in trouble, and assume that they're some kind of exclusively oppressed people. Get your mind out of the past and stop holding a grudge against whites when compared to blacks.
