Just a little update. I just got off the phone with Pete (the luthier) and he is going to add some block inlays in the neck out of the same burl maple to match the body. It will look sharp. On the third fret inlay will be one lasered symbol, on the 12th fret, 2 lasered symbols, and on the 24th fret inlay, 3 lasered symbols.

Here is the symbol to be used:

It should look really cool....

Here's some examples of the block inlay I'm talking about. Keep in mind, that my bass will have a darker neck and lighter block inlays:

The lasered symbol reminds me of John Paul Jones's symbol on Led Zep IV.

I think it turned out really good! Pete's going to use it as an 'example' of the kind of detail he can get with the laser work for custom jobs. He said after the finish is applied it will look stunning.

Gil
That is dang sweet!!

Hey thanks Gil. I wanted something unique and something that would show my dedication to praise and worship. This bass will be used every Sunday at church as well as gigs out and about.

Nice! The inlays are a nice addition and look awesome. Can't wait to see the finished product. 👍

Dang that is just looking awesome!! I also see your at 18.625" so congrats on your progress.

The wait is killing me.... Pete said that when he shoots the finish on it, the grain will POP! out. Should be killer when it's done. Expect a full photo shoot upon it's delivery.

Oh yeah it will look way way better once he puts the finish on. I installed and finished wood floors for a couple years at one of my other jobs and when you apply the finish its a night and day difference. What kind of finish do they use on guitars? Is it polyurethane? Thats what we used on floors.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a clear poly coat. He'll do a light stain in the poly coat to help accent the grain, however.

Here's an example of some of his finish work:

New King James inlays? They're looking cool in a Led-Zep kinda way.:sly: I've currently got a Jazzmaster project going on (sub 4 pound swamp ash) and it will be interesting to see who finishes their project first. Mario at the Guitar Mill is seeing to the nitro personally...:dopey:👍

Not sure about KJV Inlays, but they do symbolize the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) being intertwined. Some, however, might see it as 3 inter-twined sixes symbolizing the number the beast. The internet has a few 'facts' on this graphic. :)

For DYI projects, Warmoth is also a popular choice. So are you just having the parts shipped to you where you build it yourself?

The wait has been painful. The first couple months were the worst, but I'm getting used to it and all our summer gigs that I wish I had the bass for are over now. My bass fund to pay for this thing got spent up so there's a part of me that's not looking forward to it's completion, hence making it easier to wait. :)

Not sure...I heard originally sometime in November. Pete, the owner/operator, just had his first kid a couple weeks ago. I imagine that slowed things up a bit. Time will tell, I just hope before the first of the year, I need the tax deduction.

No new pics yet. This is the part of the production where changes are time consuming but not really picture worthy. He's shaping necks and body's, radius, and fitting the neck. He said he should have some new pics online within the next week or so. He did say that he got the inlays done on the neck and commented that the burl will something like the wood interior of a Rolls Royce. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D Unfortunately, the guessed completion date of November will most likely be December or even January. I told him no rush and to take care of his new baby born last month as well as taking care of his family.

Cool, I just hope it doesn't take too long. Family is important...but you need your bass mang! :D
