Thats coming along real nice! Hopefully in years to come my guitar playing will become good enough to warrent having my own custom guitar.

I came across these vids too which i thought you might enjoy. Its not a bass but they do show the effort that goes into making a custom guitar.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Spec....

Those inlays are looking killer. Is it actually chipped where the inlays go in or is that just the way the pic looks? The top of this pic looks like a chip is out where the inlay goes.

It might be small chips but im sure the whole fret board is due more sanding anyway partly to insure that the inlays do not protrude further than the fretboard.

It looks like over-glue to me.

I am almost 100% positive those are chips. Pako has great taste so I am sure he has also seen these chips. Colored putty can cover those if its matched correctly. I think it looks great but I cant imagine Pako would be happy if it had chips left in the final work after all this wait and money.

Thanks for posting the videos! It does help give some appreciation for what goes into a custom guitar/bass/instrument.

Those 'chips' are in fact glue deposits if we're looking at the same thing. We'll see after the sanding and finish work is done on it. :)

I know...he said there would be pics uploaded yesterday, time permitting....

I guess time didn't permit. :(

[updated]

Nothing really new to look at over that last month....but here's some updated pics anyways. I was really hoping to see more progress than this:

Here the latest word from Pete Skjold:

Pete Skjold
Now that they are radiused and hand trued to a polish they have been fretted . Next they will have the rough shaping done to the neck and the all the hand shaping and sanding . once that is done then they move to the finishing steps along with the bodies . There is still much work to be done on each and everyone of these basses . After the finish is applied on the head stock and heel the basic fret work can take place . Then there is all the assembly too . Things should move pretty quickly in terms of the visuals .

Well, I guess some progress is better then none. But yeah, it seems to be taking a while. Then again, this is a precision art. Not an assembly line. :D

Well, things are moving along. He'll be spraying all the necks and bodies for the rest of this month then assembly will follow. Here's some pics of his work space and some action shots of Pete shaping a six string neck.

I'm getting pretty excited as it gets closer to completion. :D

It's actually a compound radius. The radius goes from 12" at the nut to 18" at the 24th fret .

Here's shot (not of my bass, as I haven't seen it with a finish yet) of one of the production basses heading over to the UK dealer. I really like the figure in this piece:

I've only just come across this thread, your custom bass looks great so far, the inlays are killer!

Is that the finish you are going to have?

Thanks! The bass will be a clear finish with a slight amber tint added to the clear finish to help the grain *POP* as Pete put it. :D

Can't wait.....

Well, I found out that Zeppelin and Satan worshipers also use that symbol. PC for everyone.... :D

Again, not my bass...but some more examples of what's going on in the shop:

I must have missed this thread the first few times around. It's looking like it'll be a damn nice ride for a long time to come, Pako! Congrats! Do you have an updated delivery date?

No delivery date yet. Originally in May of last year when I ordered it, Pete was thinking November '07, then December, maybe January. We are almost starting the third week in February and would hazard to guess, March or April. I'm actually sending Pete an email today (or phone call) just to get an inquiry on delivery time. Maybe he's got my bass done already and has been secretly playing it in the back room.....

:)

That would be both cruel and a compliment at the same time - the guy who is constantly surrounded by sweet bass' likes yours enough to not want to let it go.

Kinda like when my wife ordered my custom built GT. She brought me to the bike shop that was building it and the guy at the counter asked if he could help us. My wife said she wanted to show me my new ride. He asked what her name was and before she could answer, a guy from the back came out and said he knew which one it was. The first guy still wanted to know which bike it was so the second guy said simply "The blue GT." Guy #1 smiled and said "Ooh, that one!" That made me feel pretty good, to say the least.

Just got an email back, my bass is going in for finishing this week. The basses with wood pickup covers were getting finished last. I will hopefully see some pics next week! *jumping out of my skin* I can't wait to see it.....

Again, not my bass, but this is the FIRST bass to come out of this production batch!

Damn that thing is sexy. With it being in your batch, it's got to be getting close to done.
The wait has been painful. The first couple months were the worst, but I'm getting used to it and all our summer gigs that I wish I had the bass for are over now.
I'm guessing that's not the case anymore. Let the pain return!
