I'm not whining or crying...just stating my opinion about the game...I just don't see how anyone can prefer driving in Shift 2 over GT5

Lot of people complaining about the wheel "breaking free" when you over turn and your wheels lose traction. The main reason is because it doesn't feel like GT5.

It's not supposed to feel like GT5. This is Shift 2. As you level up and progress the "feel" of Shift 2 starts to make a lot more sense. Once you hit the Supercars, on the GP tracks, it's amazing. I love the wheel breaking free.

There is not a moment in GT5 that comes close the excitement and thrill you get pushing a Zonda on the very edge of grip around a sweeper, you're Wheel kicking in and out, wrestling back and forth, because if you take it just a hair further, you're out of control and spinning around. Best sensation I've had in a racing game.

I think SMS did a great job making a product that stands out. Who wants another GT5 in different skin. I've put over 20 hours in the game and am only 23% complete in career, haven't seen all the tracks, haven't touched online yet.

Thanks Slightly Mad Studio's for a tremendous and FUN game!!!:dopey::dopey:

now I await getting bashed and flamed...

You are right, GT5 is a great driving game with excellent graphics(on the premium cars).

Shift 2 is a fun racing game with extremely better AI, parts upgrades, and customization.

Simple as that.

Same way as forza 3 vs gt5?

I have a DFGT. Don't know about perfect but these settings have been working great for me.

Force Feedback 100%
Steering Deadzone 2%
Steering Sensitivity 40%
Throttle Sensitivity 40%
Speed Sensitivity 70%

Everything else is default...

I didn't like this game much in the beginning, but now the game has begun to grow on me. I was so used to the controlling in GT5 with a DS3 that when I first started my career in Shift 2 it felt really weard. Adjusted the deadzones and the sensitivity and now it feels almost great. What I hate is the Demolition Derby going on in the Driver Duel Championship. How about trying to drive, insted of just crashing into the opponent??? And I really don't know what was going on when I had lost the first race, started the second race and within less then a second the other "racer" had won the race and we had just taken off from the starting line... Sorry for long post, but it's just my 0.02.

Edit: On the PS3, is it just PS3 players online, or are there PC and 360 players as well??

Still trying man...I haven't given up yet.

My main issue is my wheel feel so disconnected from the car and the car from the tarmac.

Well one of the drawbacks of GT5 is you can turn your wheel as far as you want and the cars tires will only go so far. So you can always overturn into the corners and never get punished for it.

In a real car if you turn the wheel past what the tires can sustain grip they break free from the road and you're essentially on ice. That's why we have Anti-lock brakes on road cars, you can break hard but your tires won't break free and you can still maneuver.

Shift 2 punishes you for overturning. There is an edge to the grip of the tires before they finally break free, it's finding that edge that makes the game so thrilling for me. When you overturn past what the tires can grip you get that bump and then a loose wheel until you slow down, or bring the wheel back within what the tires can do. Go to the Telemetry HUD and watch the tire telemetry when you break free, it's actually really cool.

I really like how it feels different from GT5, and the more I think about it, one isn't any better than the other, they are just different. Two sides of the same coin. GT5 is still great, and Shift 2 is great. All I know is I'm having a blast!!

Edit: Not a great example, but this is what I mean....

So how would you explain going on the straight full speed with a big wing and I DO NOT fell the downforce? and I STILL feel like I'm floating on the track?

Stick your head out the Window?

It's a game, how exactly can you "feel the downforce?" GT5 is floaty and twitchy at high speed too...

It'd be nice if I had a little warning before the front end broke free, and maybe not have it go so suddenly--but you know what, I still agree. I'd rather hotlap in shift2 than gt5.

And not just because of autolog, but because shift feels pretty good.
The next game I slot into my ps3 will not be gt5. Good on SMS/EA for this one.

buwahaha...you can't feel the difference in downforce in GT5? And no GT5 is not floaty or twitchy when you're driving a car with high downforce.

I'm loving this game (I just made a stand for my DFGT). The only thing that I can really complain about is when at high speeds the car has that floating feel people talk about. I don't know if it will fix it when I do more fine tuning with the wheel settings that are on this site.

All and all I am 95% happy with this game and will buy SHIFT 3 but I will NOT buy GT6.

this game really keeps you on the edge of your seat when you are racing.........I LOVE IT

still can't drift for %#$%% with the wheel, just like GT5 lmao

Hm...you guys have this problem when you buy a new car and get on the track, it feels like I'm driving on ice with minimal FFB, but then you enter the menu and exit it and the FFB is nice and strong? Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Granted I've never driven a car at 150mph+. But I can't imagine it being something I'd do with arm my hanging out the window...

Here is a Jeremy Clarkson quote. He's driven pretty fast.
When you push a car past 180mph, the world starts to get awfully fizzy and a little bit frightening. When you go past 200mph it actually becomes blurred. Almost like you’re trapped in an early Queen pop video. At this sort of speed the tyres and the suspension are reacting to events that happened some time ago, and they have not finished reacting before they’re being asked to do something else. The result is a terrifying vibration that rattles your optical nerves, causing double vision. This is not good when you’re covering 300ft a second.

At 200mph you can feel the front of the car getting light as it starts to lift. As a result you start to lose your steering, so you aren’t even able to steer round whatever it is you can’t see because of the vibrations. Make no mistake, 200mph is at the limit of what man can do right now

Came from this Article http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article596580.ece it's actually a really good read.

Nice quotes but I'm not even referring to 200mph.

My point is that in Shift 2, I feel disconnected from the car and road. Not only when turning or going 200mph but anytime the car is moving...lol

Did you read the article? He mentioned the same sensations with any car reaching it's top speed.

I've never seen a stock Golf that could go 200, but i bet it's pretty thrilling to go 155 in one...

We must have to agree to disagree, because I honestly feel quite connected to the Road in Shift 2 when I can go right to the edge of grip. It actually pushes back against you right before it lets go, not to mention the FFB reacts to the bumps, rumble strips, and different road textures you encounter as you drive.

I'm sorry the game is not for you.

First off this game is addicting, and I am having FUN!! I beat the FIA GT1 series today and have a lot more to do. Has anyone bought the e30 m3? I got that today, put a cool classic BMW racing livery on it, and added a works kit. Then omg, it has 1419 hp. Upon see this I take it to Bathurst, mount panorama. This thing is a rocket. I believe 0-100 kmh in 2.1 secs. Second strait I hit 205 mph and fly past mclaren f1's, Zonda's, konigseggs, all super cars . This is impossible to control but so fun to drive on the edge. So on the long strait at Bathurst a zonda pulls out in front off me, I hit him, causing us bot to go sideways, I go airborne and cartwheel twice destroing my car, slide across the track, get hit in the side, the zonda I first hit flips over me, meanwhile I caused a 7 car pileup. Epic game

Hi guys this is really a great thread do keep the postive posts coming so i will be more confident in my purchase soon... but I am really puzzled that for this games some people praised so confidently even though i can sense it is not a fans thing...but yet there are equal amount of complains that says this game is still arcady and physics not worth playing compare to GT5.

in my country people are selling of the game after 2 days playing. sigh.. Looks like i will go for this discounted buys first.. Thanks for such positive and inspiring threads so far.

What I find odd is the guys talking about the game being arcadey and poor physics, are the guys who complain that you actually wreck when you crash into someone, and the car feels out of control when it's going as fast as it was ever supposed to go...

some people are never happy.

to them I say go back to playing your "great gt5" and leave shift 2 threads alone

No, as long as it's not just trolling fanboyism, I enjoy hearing both sides of the argument and actually get useful information out of it. Just because it's negative doesn't mean it should be ignored.

I fully agree, but there are some people that just come on the threads and say "this game sucks" and that is it.
