Darn :dunce: In that case, my search continues...

Call them Gen Coupes. That black one with the bronze TE37s is the one in my avatar.

I've seen some coupes with the genesis wings badge on them. Those look sweet up front but I would keep the hyundai H on the back.

But that blue thing on the bottom is sweet. What is it? I was absent that day in Gran Turismo school.

Looks like a Levin.

Give that man a cake. It's an AE111, to be precise. 1.6, 4cyl, 20v. Around 170bhp if my memory serves me well.

Plural would be Genesis. Just like the plural of Lotus is Lotus. Same for any car unless otherwise specified by the creator.

I was taking the Michael ;) But thank you anyway!

How can you say you're not cool? Trust me, you're really embarrassing yourself by saying that. :embarrassed:

This was a joke too. Well, sarcasm. But thank you too for the support! Maybe I'll be cool one day after all... :D

Time for more imports anyway... BMW Compacts (all 318ti models, as far as I'm aware). Been looking at these recently to replace my car, so I've been looking at what others have done to theirs:

With wheels off a 7-series, I think:

E36 318ti's!   my next car if possible. :embarrassed: Light, came with nice variety of engines ( from diesel to 2.5l, 170bhp i6 ), and they're usually unmolested.

Exactly why I'm looking at them. They've mostly avoided the rough treatment that the normal E36 or the E30 get.

We don't get the straight six in the UK though, only the 316i and 318ti (and maybe a diesel too). The 318ti is plenty for me though, considering insurance/fuel costs etc.

The 318ti is quick enough, 0-60 in 9.9secs according to Wisebuyers.
I'm interested in one too as it's more practical than both the MX-5 and 3-series (has enough seats, is easier to get around town in).

Would love a straight six though. The noise 👍

That MR-S looks great IMO. One of the nicest I have seen in fact.

But I've heard those 318ti... things have a rubbish rear suspension design. I dunno though.

Still, my base model 1999 Corolla is faster than that to 60.

Bram
No. Just no.

That poor MR-S

But I like, though the green wheels I have mixed feelings on. The rest of the treatment on it is basically OEM look, with the TRD made lip kit and skirts, and Toyota hardtop, with OEM style CF hood and engine lid.

And I like the Civic you quoted ;)

318ti shares rear suspension design with E30. and while it might seem slow for it's power/weight, you have to remember that the gearing was done with Autobahn cruising in mind.

I'm sorry but you've just contradicted yourself there...

Personally, under 10 seconds is fairly nice when my current car does it in roughly 15 seconds.

Europe =/= US

Exactly. Though you forgot to mention that 0-60 =/= the be-all and end-all, either 👍

For someone under 25 in the U.K, it's a fairly quick car that is still affordable.

Quoted for truth. There are quicker things I can get for my £1500 budget, but many of them are either rotting away, or cost a fortune to insure. Most of the cars I'm looking at do the sprint between nine and ten seconds. I'll buy something faster when I'm not a student...

What Leo said. Not as advanced as the normal E36, but some magazines found it more fun.

Still, it is a base model 1999 Corolla ;) (I can't really comment actually. I have a particular model of Corolla in my shortlist too, the late-nineties G6 :P)

If anyone has any nice VW Polo Mk2 (such as the black 2dr with the P-slots) or Mk3 (similar shape but square headlights) pics feel free to post them, I'm quite liking these cars at the moment.

Are you sure? the G6R Corolla doesn't even do 0-60 in under 10 seconds... (going by manufacturer times)

It does according to this, which is based on manufacturer's figures. But the G6 is a bad example anyway because being a 6-speed, it probably requires a change into 3rd before 60mph so that will be responsible for a good few tenths at the least. And it only has about 110bhp. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the base US-spec Corolla has a 1.8 with more power.

Incidentally, the G6 is the model of Corolla I'm looking at. Not the prettiest thing ever, but better equipped than most of the ones I'm looking at, probably more reliable and roughly as quick.

VW with Mangels classic rims? blasphemy! those rims belong to KE70's only!

and about 318ti's rear suspension.. if I recall right, E30 was rather fun to drive, even the 316i.. it doesn't matter if the suspension doesn't live up to modern standards as long as the car is fun to drive and tells you what is happening between the car and road. I did drive an E36 and I have to say that it simple blew Mk1 Focus out of the water in terms of feedback and ride quality.. and it was a sedan with more than 180k miles on it.

Have you considered a higher mileage 323i or similar homeforsummer?

Nope. Not interested in E36 coupes/saloons particularly, only the Compacts. I like E30s and E46s but never really been a fan of the E36. Also I'm buying with an eye on fuel consumption and the sixes drink too much for my liking. I'd prefer something with lower mileage too.
