Imports

I'm assuming that Civic has some major traction issues. I like it, but it was a pretty poor job they did on cutting the hood.

Yay, something different!

Hah nice one, but atleast someone with a Civic is thinking atleast a little 'outside the box'.

That Civic V6 is very cool, it's good to see people building something different. Does anyone know which J series V6 is in it?

Even with the weight disadvantage over a 4 cylinder the power and torque would be something to work with, go scare some Kseries guys.

I really think this thread should be changed to Modified Cars or something, as that is what it pretty much has gotten to. There are a couple little specialty threads for BMW and Porsche, but this is always a nice little corner to check out trendy tuned vehicles, regardless of origin. I wouldn't like seeing it being forced into all sorts of rules.

And I've got a request. A number of months ago, someone posted a pair of rat-rod-styled 240SXs, from California I think. They were all beat up and rusted, but total sleepers at the same time. I've tried searching, but just can't come up with them. Any helpers?

I think these threads started as being about imports to the US. I just now realized that a lot of you guys are out there wondering why the hell we're posting cars that come from wherever you might be. Like Beerz's Vipers. It made me make a funny face, but then I realized he's British. Hmm. Either way, they're badass.

Stuffing a needlessly large and heavy engine into a car.

That car is the answer to the question "What is the worst possible way to make this Civic faster in a straight line?"
I bet it's no heavier than a K-series with a full rig of turbo plumbing. Plus, those engines make 300 hp in Acura guise without breaking a sweat. Get a set of custom headers made, and all those other flow parts, I bet you'd easily be looking at 350 hp, plus huge torque. And without a hint of lag. Tromp on the gas at 2000 rpm and you're off like a rocket. Sounds like a fantastic idea to me!

EDIT: Apparently it's popular to use a TL's 6-speed manual with stock LSD for this swap. It all fits in there fine with HASport's mount kit. Just change the upper transmission mount like you'd have to do for a B-series swap.

That's a video of a car with the engine from an early Pilot, rated at 240 crank hp. With the stock ECU it cranks out that much power. Imagine what could have been done if the new 300 hp Acura engines had been used, and if the flow parts were actually designed to work instead of simply fit. I kinda hope this swap gets more popular because it really is pretty badass. Someone just needs to make a hood to fit it.

I know which cars you're talking about, but I don't have the pics of them.

I'm almost 100% sure they are from the Risky Devil guys, might want to check out their website if you like that type of stuff. Their blog is full of similar stuff.

Ok, so lets say it does actually weigh no more than a K series with a full rig of turbo plumbing, (which I highly doubt) which one of those 2 will put out more power. A mild K-series build using various stock pieces can net 250whp pretty easy. Slap a turbo on there and even a small one should easily push 350-400whp.

Then people try and throw in the money issue. If he's got the money and skill to stick a v6 in there before Hasport even made mounts for that, then he's got enough money to stick a K-series in there. In the end it would run better anyway.

I'd support this idea. I mean - I deliberately don't post anything from the UK or USA in this thread as a large proportion of the user base of this site would then think "but they aren't imports", but then I do post a number of different European cars here and yet we have members from all over Europe for whom they aren't really imports. If you live in Germany then a BMW is a domestic, not an import!

So yeah, I'd be happy if this just became a thread for modified cars of any region. As you mentioned, we have little speciality threads for some marques which can still run along happily, and we have a thread for tasteless cars, so it's a shame to exclude some great modified cars from this thread even if they don't really fit anywhere else in the forum

Some people just like to do things differently. Bunging a big V6 in a small hatch is a bit more interesting than the same old turbo conversions people do to everything.

Note how far back the engine has been positioned too, and how large the arches are to accomodate those wheels and tyres. Back in the 90s with the Supertouring spec cars they had a lot of freedom to change the car from standard. They're proper works of engineering, rather than just road cars that someone's fiddled about with.

Nice to see the BTCC accord opened up a little for viewing, what happened to the cooling system?

Doesn't say anywhere that cars posted have to be from non-US builders.
Besides, it adds to the variety. 👍

WHAT?!...

When? Where?

And yes, the're extremely badass.

As far as the thread title, I don't think it should be changed. It got this far the was it has always been, and it's definitely one of my favourite threads in GTP.
If it's renamed to tuning thread or something along those lines, I guarantee the quality of the cars posted will take a plunge.

The way it is now, each member has been posting pics of cars - in good taste 99% of the times - that are imports to them.
Making this a thread for posting tuned cars will certainly make it a rice fest on every other post.

Plus, the way it is now, people can post stock cars. Like the R5 I posted on this page, and many others have already with other cars.
I really don't think it should be changed.

Imports here are just cars that aren't muscle cars, hot rods and so on, I think. I mean, Chrysler Neons, where do they end up? What's more important though, this thread was made when hot import nights was king and everyone drove riced out crap :) Imports is like.. wrong :P
