Those black wheels Speedlines?
No. They're probably Rota Grids, a copy of Spoon's SW388 or the Regamaster Evo, basically depending on what color you get.

I've seen real Speedlines on, like, three street cars, and that Mini is definitely not one of them.

Heh. You've probably seen them on more cars than you think. Speedlines have been OEM on a fair few cars. Actually, not sure about the States but a bunch of European models have been equipped with them, and a fair few Japanese models too. Audi 80, VW Corrado VR6, Renault Clio Williams and 19 16V, Alfa 155, Peugeot 205/309 GTI, some Impreza WRXs and Mitsubishi Evos, Ferrari F50, Ford Racing Puma, UK-market Civic VTi-S... okay, so a fair few not sold in the States then :P

Im really not a big fan of yellow cars but i was stunned when i saw this. I think if i were to ever "build" an ek I would paint it this color. On this month's issue of Super Street.

The ones you picked look great. Loads of people in the UK go for these ones and I hate the bloody things:

Mini%20Cooper.jpg

Those are the R56 Cooper S wheels, and yes they look a bit goofy on a 1st gen MINI.

Look alot like Rotas to me, but I am no wheel expert

They are probably Rota's, the guys on North American Motoring seem to love them and put them on their cars.

UK-market Civic VTi-S
Show me. Must buy.

I do remember seeing a picture of some-version Impreza sold in the UK that had gold Speedlines. Besides that, the only car that comes to mind is this NSX:

Of course Danny had to get the magnesium ones. These pics are from three years ago. Anyone got an update on the car?

I think the VTi-S is this one:

Though I know they did an EK 3dr 1.6 VTi-S too which was essentially a VTi with those wheels, a Honda bodykit and one of those half-way spoiler things at the base of the rear screen.

Mclaren F1 & Lotus Motorsport Elise as well.

I didn't know they were that rare. Some Corrado guys were putting together a group buy that my brother was going to get in on...

As far as I know it's more rare to see Speedlines here in the US than just about any of these JDM tyte wheels. The Speedlines seem to be reserved for the guys who can justify the (presumably) insane price by winning a hella trophy in whatever races they run.

I love the M7 car.

I want the dumped Clubman, in stock form this car is hideous but lay it out and it looks awesome. Hell even just a drop does wonders for it.

So now for something different, I see a lot of cars with orange rims but never orange tires. I want those just to confuse the hell outta others.

O.O

I saw one of those in SF a few years ago. Except it had an Acura badge. Any ideas on what the Acura version is called? Or was it just a badge job. I remember seeing it and being like "What the hell is that thing?" It had faded red paint like most red cars in California.

And Joey, Keep those posts full of Minis. The one with orange tires is win.

Most people probably won't like it, but I think it's quite cool. GT-R/Silvia offsets ftw. 👍

Now all we need is those green TE37s with the orange tyres.

Those orange tyres look choice with the brlack rims..it has to be said.

Fred, the S2000 is absolutely sick. I find no problems with how flashy it is. :)

Maybe the guy is an NDSU fan? :dopey:

Let the coloured-tire fad begin (apparently it occurred somewhat on concept cars in the 70's). I, for one, welcome the new vivacity and variety it will bring amongst an increasingly boring line of monochromatic mixes (black-on-black I am looking at you).

I can't seem to find any other examples on the web in terms of imports. Does someone want to contribute some more? :D

Speedlines aren't all that expensive. Infact, their magnesium race/rally wheels generally undercut Rays - Volks alloys.

These still look way better than the Mk2 MINI. It's amazing how goofy they made it look just with a few subtle changes.

I suspect the Acura version didn't get the B18C4 engine that we got in the UK VTi though. 1.8, VTEC and about 170bhp if I recall correctly. Nor the Aerodeck version, which also came in VTi form:

If you're getting a rear bodykit that has two exhaust cutouts, make sure they're both occupied. I see that as soooooo ricey when only one tip is sticking out of two holes.

Blame the EU's pedestrian safety laws.

Weeeeell I wouldn't go as far as blaming it on that one thing. The design of the MINI has been such a tug-of-war between so many people that you can't really blame it on one single thing. As far as I could tell, the cost of production was the biggest factor for such an early overhaul. While they were working on retooling and manufacturing changes, the subtle design refreshment to keep the design current maybe wasn't the best. Not sure that pedestrian impact can be directly correlated with goofy frontal design.

Based on anything I've ever read about the R56 MINI is that the EU's new safety laws played a huge part in making the thing look goofy. I'm sure it wasn't the sole factor, but it seems that it was the major one. I don't know much on the EU's pedestrian safety laws though, but in various articles it talked about how it dictated the shape of the bumper and bonnet, thus making the whole car look a bit odd.
