Something about having a powerful car that still feels like a boat to drive is just so unappealing to me. Soft suspension, bubbly soft tires, brick of a steering wheel. Not feeling it.

That, and cars that look "built" to drive around cones.

I'd much rather have a slow car that is actually precise, nimble and feels good to drive, and is nice to look at, all with a few key modifications. I think a lot of people also feel this way, hence the Miata.

Hence that MR2 in stock form also. But now because it's so ridiculously fast it would really highlight all its other deficiencies. Mainly, it doesn't have the preciseness or grip to deal with that sort of power outside of a straight line. Maybe no even that. I've seen these things roll in the corners and I imagine that nose would be pointed skyward when the gas is floored.

Gonna have a really difficult time putting down any power on the (stock size) 185mm tires. There's a guy on MR2.com that has a V8 swap in his and he just build a sweet frankenstein of a transmission. Basically a last generation Celica 6 speed, using the sixth gear from a third gen MR2, the LSD from a third gen MR2, all bolted into a Mk1 MR2 bell housing. DO WANT.

But yeah, I can't imagine more than about 250whp even being worthwhile in these MR2s. Right now the only time mine doesn't want to oversteer is on power. Give it some tighter suspension, LSD, or power...and it'll do it all the time.

Hence that MR2 in stock form also.
I wasn't talking about a stock Miata. I just used that as a good example of why cars like that are so popular. I'm not saying they suck in stock form, but it needs a few touches to get to the perfect spot. 400hp is not one of the few touches.

Well, at least you didn't quote them all on the same page.

No on the wing. The wings never did anything more than hold the trunk down.
Yeah that wing is marginally more effective than the rear window TV trays on hatchbacks.

I've seen that mod in Sport Compact a while back. I forget the guy's name that came up with it. Anyways, it actually looks better when you that so why doesn't everybody?

Speaking of effectiveness, I just noticed that 240 has a rear window stupid thing. Specifically to deflect air up and over the rear spoiler? For the life of me I will never understand why people use those in combination with rear spoilers. It just makes you look like an idiot.

Implying that the rear spoiler ever did anything anyway?

Because it looks good.

I think it would work with a big wing though.

I'd rather just ditch the wing. At some point some company made cf trunk lids for these cars that looked pretty ok. I don't know if you can still get them though. I doubt it.

Well sure it did. Haven't you ever noticed the curved undersides that many stock spoilers and wings have? They're shaped like upside down wings. My car has that plus a Gurney lip-like thing on top. Not nearly as effective as a race wing, but it's probably enough to negate any native lift on the rear end. And since my rear spoiler is low it also happens to be low drag, and thus the car has a really slippery Cd.

It would be worse to combine it with a race wing. The whole point of raising the wing is to get it into clean air, so using a roof spoiler would just mean you have to raise the wing that much higher. Ideally you'd want some sort of vortex generators to keep the air along the body, and then you could use a low-mounted, low-drag wing to create the same downforce. Doesn't really look good, but it's more effective.

Meh. If I were planning to use the car at high speeds I would want it there for stability. The Civic could have used a big ass one!

You can barely see it, but Spoon put vortex generators on the CRZ's roof to help reduce drag and lift even further, despite the rear already having excellent drag and lift characterstics.

Sleek, long mirrors are lower drag than typical brick-like and stubby race mirrors. Still can't see **** though lol.

Spoon keeps rear seats folded to lower the CG. A friend has his tied with a bungee cord so they don't flop around.

Mesh boot is lighter than regular leather or cloth. Who'da thunk it? Mugen, actually. I hate to think of how much R&D went into that boot; no wonder Mugen stuff is so expensive!

These cars are practically setup for understeer. Toyota was afraid idiots that can't drive would buy them and kill them selves so they had to neuter the handling.

It's gorgeous. Now tell him to trade it for a coupe with a black roof. That'd be even sexier.

EDIT: But I guess that wouldn't be as popular with the ladies. I always forget, cars are to impress girls, not guys! No, I'm being serious.
