White one looks ok to me...
The white one is better, but IMO Honda guys are starting to get a bit adventurous with their body kits. I can understand a functional aero kit, even on a show car, but that blue one in particular looks like it's wearing a skirt. Like something you'd find in NFS Underground.

I suppose the different between clean, track, and ricer is pretty subjective, but I think just because some drift car in Japan is wearing it doesn't mean it doesn't look ricer status.

I wonder how much downforce those stock spoilers can hold...Seems to me that those wings should be mounted to the hatch directly. Probably wouldn't look as cool though, right?

Here's a picture of that KL-ZE swap I was referring to earlier with the Protege's:

The white and blue hatches are pain in the eyes. Both pretty questionable if you ask me.. And I'm pretty sure they never ever been on track too in that state.

I don't think the grey car is tracked, but, GRIP HRD

EDIT: Why are those Civics running COPs, and what is that thing in place of the distributor?

I don't remember why they said they started running COPs, there was discussion somewhere. It is cleaner overall than a dizzy though. And I imagine it's the igniter?? idk

Although I don't really agree with kits, and these are growing on me. How many different variations of an OEM body can you really see before it gets a bit monotonous? I'm not a big fan of gawdy kits these are honestly not too bad. But if cars started showing up left and right with them they would probably look pretty stupid. But they're clean and not too overdone cars.

Stock, they are. There's a company that makes brackets to raise the stock spoiler up to create a venturi effect underneath it, and also to make it adjustable. Some people are stupid and stand it straight up like a wall, but adjusted sensibly it's proven to be a cheap, effective way to make real downforce and adjustability.

I'll make sure to PM the guy then and ask him to wrap it in some carbon fiber patterned vinyl then. It also looks like he bought that splitter from lowes racing actually, but what do I know?

Wait I'm confused, are you agreeing with me?
Not really. I'm all for homemade track cars, but I still think that Miata isn't a good example. My point was that being a "homemade" track car doesn't make a home depot splitter suddenly a great looking peice. It still looks like crap, and being homemade isn't an excuse, because I've seen plenty of "homemade" track cars, cheap ones even, that have work that rivals off the shelf high quality parts.

I'm not saying everyone is capable of it, but I think a little more effort isn't asking much, and makes a big difference. Especially the surpised looks and respect you get from people when they find out that whatever it is was something you made by hand, whereas that Miata looks like some guy built it in his garage with nothing but a pair of tin snips and a rivet gun.

I know some people will say function > form, but time and time again I find the coolest looking stuff is frequently the stuff that also works really well.

I'm pretty sure the guy would have conjured up something else if looks were a priority. It is a LSX swapped car, after all.

The sad reality is that cars break on track, parts breaks break on track and everyone knows the miata has the aerodynamic drag equivalent(maybe worse) to a brick. He did his best with his sheet metal tire spats,.

Well so be it, but regardless of the reasoning or justification behind it, it looks like crap, which is why I say that isn't a good example of a "homemade" race car. It's a good example of a typical homebuilt race car maybe, but not an example of a good homebuilt race car, if you know what I mean. (kind of one of those "all medicines are drugs, but not all drugs are medicines" type of thing.)

Smoked tail lights are so dumb. It looks stupid, and it impares everyones abilities to see your brake lights as well as they should.

And something looks off about that 350Z...maybe it's the angle?

I don't know what smoked tails you've seen (maybe straight painted) but all of the ones I've ever seen have been pretty dark, but not to the point where they weren't visible from 50yards away.

Around here, blacked out tail lights are a staple of the lifted-truck-and-grumbly-Camaro scene, which...isn't a good scene. That M5 reminds me of a white trash Camaro with those tail lights. Ugh.

That CR-Z is hot. Now if only it had a different powertrain.
👍

K-series with ITBs and whatnot? Yup. Personally I would love to see a dirty old B-series in there. It'd be like a big middle finger to the original powertrain.

Hmm, don't think I've ever seen this Elan front bumper before.

Also, that gray Miata up there looks fantastic. Love the paint. Anybody think an RX7 would look good in that gray?

That's the lowest I would ever take any of my cars. Except if I actually owned a Subaru, then it would stay stock height and have a rally theme.
