Smart Roadster as you've not seen one before: without the plastic external bodypanels. The idea behind it is that if you get bored of having a red car, you can pop to a dealer and get them to swap the panels to another colour - basically the same as the Swatch watches the company originated from.

That S13 IMO just looks like the person had a lot of money to invest in it. I do not like the roll cage it has (poser-ish IMO). Other than that looks wise I like it but I would do a front end conversion to the silvia cioupe if I had the funds

Drop, Volks, Cage, and Type X kit = a lot of money?
Yes lol. Probably looking at about 5k right there at least. Don't forget that fresh paint job that cost another pretty penny on top of that!

That car is super clean, understated, very nice. It would look good still with orange wheels or something ridiculous, but right now it's a car you wouldn't be ashamed to show up to a new job in. I'd like to have something subtle like that as a daily driver.

$5K, though, isn't really a whole lot of money when it comes to the car modding community, though.

Unless, of course, you're one of those cheap budget guys who cut corners at every angle. :ouch:

The cage is a Cusco cage, so it was just for looks. Sil-eightys look bad though. I've seen all of like 3 that look good. S13 front ends belong on coupes.

Well, visually, yes it's not much, but it was one of those "I'm gonna replace every thing from the carpets to the bushings" builds.

The paint is actually old. Apparently it's really bad in person so the guy spends a lot of time getting the most out of it until he can get it painted.

EDIT: Oh wait, never mind, apparently he got it painted a few weeks ago. My bad.

Yeah, definitely isn't a lot of money. I've got more than that in my car, and I'm all about cheap stuff, and my car still looks like ass.

Starlet was minted but think the owner is going for the "rat" look now :(

Yeah, that was just my point. Sure those are expensive parts in particular, but its no more expensive (from what we can see) than a lot of the other cars in this thread. Wheels, drop, (not necessarily) cage are pretty much standard for most of the cars here.

Tru dat. A lot of people spend a lot of money, but still, 5k is a lot of money lol.

Besides the purchase, I think I've got over 3500 in mine so far. And it's still broken! That's just counting the parts that are installed; I still have some sitting in my room, one in the mail, and a few I haven't even ordered yet. UGH.

Just did a quick add up of JUST the parts I have now. This doesn't include cosmetics such as paint job, lips or things that are eventually replaced such as tires, fluids, brakes, etc (all of which are some very significant numbers) and came up with roughly 10350. I have owned the car for like five years though.

Aaaaalright. Now, this thing is seriosly sick.

Damnit, I'm all of a sudden considering to buy a Starlet sometime down the line - it seems like it could be turned into a reasonably cool car, without spending a whole fortune (until the inevitable engine swap, that is).

Starlets are cool. You could even get them with EFI on the little 1.3l 4K here in the states. I found a super nice one going for about $4000 on a local craigslist recently.

Currently I really want to get my hands on a Datsun B110 coupe as you might have guessed by my last post.

Starlets are cool because they're RWD. Besides that, honestly, it's just a tiny, flimsy, cheap, ugly, entirely underwhelming economy car with ITBs. It wasn't designed to be a sports car, and it never will be, just like an AE86 or Civic or Sentra.

That's not saying it can't be fun. Just that the owners should keep in mind that they own/show/race/drift an economy car with ITBs. Any redeeming dynamic quality is probably a result of its very light weight.
