Clean, simple, perfect.

QFTruff.......

I've been told this thing is a Kia. Iono? Any ideas?

And if it's a Kia, why don't they sell it here?

That's a Kia Optima, isn't it?

edit

with a lot of front end work.

It's the Kia Cadenza, and they are supposed to be selling it here in the states either this year or next.
Ok, thanks.

Has does that not qualify as a replica wheel? And it's the LP560-4. The overall shape and design is exactly the same, the BLQ. They took that wheel and made it 2 or 3 piece and manufactured concave faces as well.

A replica is a copy that is relatively indistinguishable from the original
Relatively indistinguishable? Correct. That's why the Rotiform isn't a replica - the three-dimensional design in any configuration is completely different. They don't even make that wheel in a configuration that can be compared to the Lambo wheel. The only similar feature is the two-dimensional fascia design, and even that is quite obviously different than the Lambo, what with thicker spokes and sharper edges.

It's kind of sad Rod Millen's time has finally been beaten at the Peak... But then again it was to be expected, it's mostly asphalt now whereas 17 years ago it was still mostly gravel. Next year it'll be paved all the way to the top, so we can expect those times to go down even more... Slicks will appear, aero will now play an even bigger role, it'll become kind of just like every other hillclimb... Only a bit taller, and with a better view at the top.

Oh well.
The fact that Rod set that time on mostly gravel is staggering though. His driving and his Tacoma were fantastic.

The one cool thing that may come of the all-asphalt course next year is that it will become more like the asphalt time attacks we're accustomed to. I can totally see HKS modding the CT230R with bigger wings and more boost to attack the course. Formula 1 is moving to turbo engines...is it conceivable that Red Bull could bring their F1 car to make a run? Think about all the monster machines that may turn out, tuned for paved time attack. A new drift category of cars? Those Lancias hill climb cars from Europe? Aw yeah. I have a feeling ****'s gonna go down when this course is fully paved.

This deserves it's own post, but alas:

I've seen a few in Orlando this past week. I couldn't for the life of me find out what kind of car it was since I only really saw the rear from somewhat afar, and briefly the front. They're using a skewed K logo so I had no idea what it was..

I can see the M3 and GS. The Lexus is straight up McNasty.

In honor of Monster Tajima's world record of 9:51.278 minutes up Pikes Peak today, here are pictures of the car he used:

I don't believe that car has ever been driven. Way too damn clean.

Rod Millen, New Zealand represent 👍 Set a class record for TA 2WD @ 11m04

Also somewhat amazed to read that both Rod and Monster are now 60 - I know they are both old, but not that old

That yellow Protege on the previous page is strangely appealing.

Hadn't driven it yet. :D

On another note, I want to say congrats to Jeff Zwart. Even though he missed winning the 2WD Time Attack class today by three seconds, he did it in a brand new GT2 RS that he drove 1,132 miles from California to compete this weekend. 👍

I want one really bad, but they don't look good on super low offset wheels. That one is over done.

Oh well.

I kinda bummed that the trail is getting more and more cleaner now in terms of actual dirt on the trail.

But at least it still blows Goodwood's "hill" out of the water.:)

Yeah I saw that. That means the Genesis...is fast.

Neat vid about his Jeff's journey:

Back when the RMR Genesis was being used as a drift car, it was pushing 550hp and barely weighed 1000kg - I imagine in Pikes Peak form the specs are pretty similar.

They probably have a couple of them, but it still is a drift car lol. They just reworked everything basically.

That's how us Kiwis do it

Rhys'... thing in Unlimited is bonkers, it's 775hp from a Hyundai V6 in what is basically a closed-top Le Mans body, lol

Wow, never seen such a narrow roll-cage. I can't have been the first person to see it and think it looks a little like an extented sim-racing cockpit frame. Hmmm... ideas, ideas...

Also, where's the handbrake? Surely he didn't go up Pikes Peak without one!

Yeah that thing was pretty gnarly but couldn't quite capture it. Monster's car is an evolution of the Escudo car that he drove back in the day, this time with "only" 910 horses instead of 985.

It's the big silver stick in the middle of the picture ;)

Actually, it's not, it's the sequential shift. With that much power and a short wheel base i doubt there's any need for a handbrake.

Pretty sure that's his sequential shifter. I don't think the car has a handbrake because most of the hairpin turns are paved now.

The track getting more and more paved, and maybe the drivetrains he is using are far more advanced than what he had back in the day, allowing hp to drop.

I won't be surprised to see sub 900 hp cars break the 9 minute barrier in the close future.

Damn right it didn't take long. That thing was unveiled like two weeks ago. :P Looks pretty cool I must say.

As with Roger Bannister's 4-minute mile and many records before and since, there's no doubt sub 9-minute times will become the norm at the top level. Won't even be too long before the 2WD class starts knocking on the door I think, such is the rate of progress.
