Ok, maybe it doesn't look good on EVERYTHING. But it sure does look good on a helluva lot of cars!

The ones on the Mustang are real, that photo dates back a few years, before Varstoeen was even in business, and the only other replicas at the time (Brotas) don't look anything like that.

I think I can help with this whole Volk TE37 universal aesthetics test. Feel free to send me a set of them and I'll be happy to tell you whether they look good on a classic Mustang. :D

I remember seeing this car's progress shots recently on speedhunters or some other blog... anyway... my take:

1. Great bodywork with the rear flares. I'd never mold flares into the body like that, but the workmanship is obviously excellent.

2. Terrible front lip. Looks like it actually helps air get under the car.

3. Silly roll bar.

4. Is it just me or do the fronts appear to have slightly positive camber?

Overall, I can't tell what they're going for with the car. Judging by the ILLEST plate and the modifications so far, I have my doubts about the car seeing any serious track time. I could be wrong, but from looks alone, it's just another S2000 prepped for some hard parking. Valiant effort, though.

IIRC, he does track it.

This is not to say it's properly set up for it though. People rarely drive at the car's 100% at track days anyway, so the potential time lost with an improper set-up probably isn't noticed. Kind of the same way it's really hard to judge how well you're driving your car at a autocross, because you can easily be faster than a STI and slower than a Neon.

It does, actually. You'll notice race cars across numerous series which have a center portion of the front splitter raised above the rest, meant to funnel air into the underbody air tunnels. Most notably in Super GT, for quite a while now, cars often have a curved center section like that. Imagine the leading edge of a wing turned upside down - it helps speed up the air as it channels it into the car's underbody air tunnels. The increased speed helps lower the air pressure immediately for a greater effect when the air reaches the underbody diffuser, gets compressed in between the rear wheels, and then decompresses as it leaves the rear diffuser. Higher velocity throughout the underbody system results in a gain in downforce across the whole floorpan, even the high pressure zones between the wheels.

Obviously race cars have their underbody aero tuned very precisely. Unless that S2000 has a full floorpan by some crazy Japanese time attack shop, the lip is near pointless.

Nah, they look vertical. It would look much better if they were cambered a bit. Goes to show that this car is a show car, and that the owner is worried more about wearing his mediocre summer tires than outright performance. Show car status also explains the flimsy-as-a-tv-tray Cusco rollbar.

I was thinking of this car when I said I think he tracks it.

Don't think it's the same car with new bodywork, since the one posted has Jersey plates.

I have no clue. I just thought that this car was the same one posted above in a more recent state due to the color and the roll bar, but I was mistaken.

Just looked, and I don't think it is. He's local and has a J's Racing Hardparker special S2000 with more stickers and less cage. Otherwise, very close to identical.

The one Alex posted is from Calgary, he's part of the Speedtech crew. They're all hardparkers, but use their cars on track from time to time. Kind of like the AJ Racing guys in BC back in the day.

Interesting choice of wheels. Either way, it's about time somebody did something to that G37!

I think they only look good on modern cars with sleek styling. Besides that, the wheel looks too modern. I still think it looks a bit awkward on 240s also. Definitely prefer some sort of stepped lip, even a small one like RPF1s.
